OVERVIEW

The Swollen Pickle mkII Jumbo Fuzz is the most sought-after and corpulent Way Huge guitar effects pedal, and now it's back! A charter member of the Way Huge line has returned, and just like when it debuted in 1997, it still has "more fuzz than a moldy peach!" The Swollen Pickle mkII doles out super high-gain fuzz with copious amounts of smooth low-end to all who dare plug into it.

With a twist of the Sustain control, the Swollen Pickle mkII Jumbo Fuzz takes you from mild crunch to Armageddon. The Filter control retains its trademark insane range of heavily band-pass-filtered tones, distinguished by remarkable girth and sizzle, and the Loudness puts out enough volume to clobber any amp.

Updated Swollen Pickle mkII Jumbo Fuzz features include a tone stack Scoop control that elicits classic Swollen Pickle guitar pedal mid-scoop or a flat mid-frequency sweep, and a Crunch knob to adjust the compression intensity of the fuzz.

Finally, under the hood, the Swollen Pickle mkII fuzz pedal has 2 internal mini controls-Voice sets the intensity of the external Scoop control from light to heavy mid cut, and Clip varies between two sets of clipping diodes for smooth or opened fuzz sustain.

Each Way Huge effect pedal is rigorously tested to ensure quality, durability, and reliability to deliver many years of exceptional performance. All Way Huge pedals offer a heavy-duty footswitch with quiet relay-based true bypass, a blue LED indicator, 2.1mm power jack with AC protection, easy access (non-detachable) battery door, a super-duty .09 aluminum anodized chassis, high grade components, great tone, and a cool name.

Launched in 1992 by Jeorge Tripps, Way Huge Electronics began as a result of Tripps' search for great tone, and his desire to perform with reliable, rugged and pedal board-friendly effects that had the magic of his coveted vintage pedals. The very first pedal-simply labeled "Fuzz Box"-was quickly followed by such staples to the product line as the Red Llama Overdrive, Foot Pig Fuzz and Green Rhino Overdrive II, which quickly found their way into the hands and onto the pedal boards of the world's guitar elite. Ensuing years would see the introduction of pedals such as the Swollen Pickle Jumbo Fuzz, Aqua-Puss Analog Delay, and the Saffron Squeeze. Over the span of a few years, Tripps helped revolutionize what would later be known as the 'boutique' effects market. In late December 1999, the company closed its doors as Tripps pursued other opportunities, sending demand for Way Huge products soaring, and driving online auctions well into the hundreds-sometimes thousands-for used Way Huge pedals. Now teaming up up with Dunlop, Way Huge pedals will once again be available to the masses, so all can enjoy their finely tuned electronics, high-grade circuitry and road ready construction, built under the watchful eye of Mr. Huge himself.

More fuzz than a moldy peach!

If you can't find a sound you don't like with this pedal, you just don't like fuzz. It can do just about anything you want. After watching the Youtube video of the designer, I set it to what he recommended as the classic Swollen Pickle tone (scoop at 9 o-clock, crunch all the way to the left, and I put the loudness, sustain, and tone all at about 10 o'clock), and I get a fantastic stoner rock sound through my Telecaster. Crank all of the knobs on the top except the sustain (set at about 9 o-clock) and I've got a great classic rock and roll overdrive through my SG. That's just two of about 10 different setups that I've found that I really like, and there's still more exploring to be done.

This pedal can get a little wild and wooley if you go overboard, but I'd rather have too much than not enough. It's easy to roll back the controls to managable levels. If you're in a 60s cover band and want nothing but a vintage Hendrix tone this may not be the absolute best choice, but then again, if that's you, why are you even looking at this pedal? This is a balls-to-the-wall fuzz with great versatility that can do Hendrix with the right settings, and just as easily do Fu Manchu.

Simply a fantastic pedal all-around.

I wanted to love this pedal I have expiermented with it off and on for more than a year. I bought 5 Way Huge products and Pork loin is by far the best in the line and only one I kept .This fuzz has so much volume ,bottom end crazy controls it is hard to find a decent sound for me that is. It is what I would say very modern and way to much gain.If you are looking for that huge loud wall of fuzz with no clarity what so ever . I do like the name and marketing of this line the design is awesome, looks cool and well built Maybe a great fuzz for some just not my cup of tea .I have gone back to Big PI ,fulltone 70 and a Joe Bonamassa fuzzface for my fuzzy goodness.

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE401 Swollen Pickle mkII Jumbo Fuzz Guitar Effects Pedal:

I bought the Swollen Pickle about a month ago, and it has quickly become one my most used pedals. Extremely versatile, it can be either subtle or in your face. I love this thing - it took a bit to figure it out to get a premium sound, but after a little toying around, I got her making some beautiful noise.

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE401 Swollen Pickle mkII Jumbo Fuzz Guitar Effects Pedal:

Based on what I've read, they were going for a Green M*ff-type sound. Though, I don't know that that's a totally accurate comparison.

The Pickle is built like a tank. Way Huge pedals, in general, are some of the best constructed pedals out there. The true-bypass switch is completely noiseless. There are 5 knobs on the face of the pedal. The first three are familiar to anyone who has used an EHX pedal: Loudness, Filter (tone) and Sustain and work as you might expect. The other two are mid "Scoop" and "Crunch" mini knobs. There are also two internal trim pots:, one adjusts the sensitivity of the face knobs, and the other sweeps between "smooth" and "open" fuzz.

I tend to hate complicated controls, and this many knobs is not something I typically find pleasant. But, you can get a ton of usable tones from this pedal. There is anything from Black Keys to Zeppelin to Pumpkins to be had. The crunch control, specifically, adds a lot of tonal diversity to the pedal, as does the internal smooth/open knob (though I found the more "open" tones to be too harsh). On the other hand, the controls are pretty sensitive, so it can be difficult to dial in the exact sound you want or lose it afterwards.

      I have two major complaints:

      1. The pedal has an overabundance of bass. Instead of some of the knobs they chose to include, I would have rather had an independent bass knob, as it would be nice to be able to roll off some bass without increasing the treble.

      2. This thing doesn't sustain nearly as well as the EHX Big M*ff. You can compensate somewhat by turning up the mids all the way, but it's really not the same, at least with my rig.

Overall, I really like this pedal. The build quality is awesome. Tonally, for me, it's a kind of jack-of-all-traits-master-of-none. People who have the patience to dial in the exact sound they want using all 7 knobs will probably be able to get the perfect sound out of this thing, too.

I am blown away at how perfect this fuzz pedal (made for guitars mind you) is on bass guitar... I have been thru 4 different overdrives/fuzzes (mostly bass made versions) that can't touch the tone of this beast!

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE401 Swollen Pickle mkII Jumbo Fuzz Guitar Effects Pedal:

I liked this pedal and I would recommend it to anyone that has an amp that is compatible with it. Unfortunately, I really did not. Not among the best fuzz units that I have heard as the fuzz tone tends toward a dryness or a brittleness that I really didn't care for. On the other hand, it makes up for that to some degree in its versatility (it has 7 knobs). A very good rather than a great fuzz unit.

              BEST FUZZ FOR BASS!

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE401 Swollen Pickle mkII Jumbo Fuzz Guitar Effects Pedal:

Is amazing on bass. Very versatil: can be completely smooth or strong and loud, but a total screamer too... I get one of this with a JHS PEDALS Exo Mod to have full acces to the internal parameters. I left my old EHX Bass Big Muff (anyway great pedal). Have no comparision... WAY HUGE Swollen Pickle is the Optimus Prime of fuzz pedals for bass!

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE401 Swollen Pickle mkII Jumbo Fuzz Guitar Effects Pedal:

Just wanted to chime in to recommend this one to the bassists out there. Long story short on this pedal is that it has a TON of low end if you want it, and an insane amount of fuzz! I use it for a crazy "the world is coming to an end" type sound and it kills. It is VERY tweakable, but with a total of 8 knobs (including the 3 internal ones) it can be tricky to dial in since all the knobs are interactive. Worth the trouble, though.....Having said all that, I find that fuzz tones are some of the most subjective types of effects there are. Everybody is looking for something and any pedal either has it or it don't...this one has it for me.....
