Music Gear Makers Tuning In To Conservation And Community

This Earth Day we’re spotlighting manufacturers who exemplify eco-friendly manufacturing practices and/or show an extraordinary commitment to humanitarian issues. They not only help make the music happen, they're helping to make our world a better place.

Read more on these Earth-saving initiatives in our press release.

Laguna

Last year Laguna launched their "One Guitar, One Tree" reforestation initiative that involves planting a tree for every guitar they make. Laguna’s shipping cartons are designed to give maximum protection using a minimum of material and are made of 100% recycled cardboard.

Martin

For decades Martin has incorporated environmentally sustainable materials into their guitar production processes. Some woods used by Martin come from well-managed forests meeting environmental, social, and economic standards. The Martin D Mahogany 09 Acoustic Guitar and the Martin SWDGT Sustainable Wood Series Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar are two beautiful examples of guitars made with eco-friendly woods.

Earth-friendly birch and cherry have become popular alternatives in Martin’s guitars and ukuleles, including the gorgeous Martin Special Edition 3 Cherry Soprano Ukulele, that's made entirely from sustainable woods.

Martin also crafts instruments from "rescued" wood, putting fallen trees to good use. The tops of the Martin Special Edition OMC Cherry Acoustic Electric Guitar were crafted from rescued Sitka spruce that might otherwise have been scrapped.

Manuel Rodriguez

Classical guitar maker Manuel Rodriguez and Sons donates a part of the proceeds from each guitar sold to the Carter Center, an organization founded by former President Jimmy Carter. The Carter Center alleviates human suffering through disease prevention and human rights programs in more than 70 countries.

Warwick

Warwick is known for their fine basses and bass amps. Less well known is Warwick’s innovative use of alternative energy, powering their main factory’s heating system with sawdust and scrap wood and running the plant with solar power gathered from roof-mounted arrays. The factory even generates surplus power that goes back into the electrical grid.

DW Drums

DW is known for making some of the finest-sounding drums in the world. Their challenge was to achieve DW’s legendary sound quality while using renewable, earth-friendly materials. DW rose to that challenge with the Eco-X Series by using hybrid bamboo/birch, diagonally cross-grained shells that deliver intense high-end attack matched with deep low-frequency punch. Earth-friendly, fast-growing bamboo is a wonderful alternative to the traditional woods used in drum making.

JBL

The small and highly energy-efficient Class D power amps used in JBL’s latest generation of Eon powered PA speakers generate far less heat and consume much less power than conventional Class A and Class B amps. Yet these self-contained sound reinforcement systems reproduce high-level, full-bandwidth sound with the added benefit of integrated mic preamps.

QSC

Deceptively compact, QSC K Series Speakers provide massive sound and astounding onboard digital processing without getting in the way of your show. Their Class D power modules and QSC’s proprietary GuardRail power-monitoring technology make the K Series marvels of energy-smart design.
