The Gretsch Roots Series is a new collection of old-timey acoustic instruments, from banjos and mandolins to ukuleles and flat-top and resonator guitars, based on over 120 years of Gretsch manufacturing experience, and crafted with modern attention to quality and playability. Gretsch came by its bona fides the old-fashioned way, with years of hard work producing quality musical instruments, starting in 1883 with a line of banjos, drums and tambourines. By 1920, the company had grown to the point where its New York-based manufacturing facility had become the largest musical instrument factory in the world, and in the 1950s and 60s, Gretsch guitars helped fuel the birth of rock and roll, rockabilly and Beatlemania in the hands of players like Chet Atkins, Duane Eddy, Eddie Cochran and George Harrison.
However, while musical styles come and go, there has always been a demand for good old-fashioned folk-style instruments, and with the rise of Alt-Country and Americana music in recent years, the timing of the Roots Collection couldn't have been better. Take the G9450 Dixie 5-String Banjo, for instance, an incredibly affordable twang machine that harkens back to the company's early days, featuring an elegantly simple open-back claw-hammer design, with mahogany rim and neck, and a rosewood fingerboard. For pluckers with a little more scratch, check out the G9400 Broadkaster Deluxe Banjo, featuring a one-piece flange, solid maple rim and Bluegrass resonator, with deluxe fretboard inlays for an added touch of class. The G9470 Clarophone Banjo-Uke is, of course, a ukulele-banjo hybrid, or bajolele, with a ukulele neck on a banjo-style body. it's sized like a concert uke, with maple plywood rim and resonator, perfect for either a banjo junkie or ukulele enthusiast, or any string player looking for something a little different. Gretsch has the straight-up uke fans covered as well, with a half-dozen new models in the line, including Soprano, Standard, Tenor, Concert and Deluxe versions, as well as Resonator and Guitar-Uke models! The G9110 Concert Standard Ukulele, for instance, has a laminated mahogany body and two-piece mahogany neck, while the G-9110-SM Concert Deluxe Ukulele features an all solid mahogany body and one-piece mahogany neck. Both sport Grover tuners, and come with a padded carry bag. The G9120-SM Tenor Deluxe uke also features an all solid mahogany body and one-piece mahogany neck, with deluxe inlays on the rosewood fingerboard and Grover Sta-Tite tuning pegs, with the larger body size producing more volume and deeper bass tones. Dobro and National resonator guitar fans will dig the Roots Collection offerings, with both square neck and round neck axes, and featuring Gretsch's Ampli-Sonic resonator cone, a sweet-sounding design which is hand-spun in Eastern Europe from high-grade aluminum for enhanced volume and purity of tone. Check out the blues-friendly G9200 Boxcar Round Neck Resonator, or the bluegrassy G9210 Square Neck model, both with mahogany body and neck and old-school f-holes. The G9220 Bobtail Round Neck and G9230 Bobtail Square Neck kick things up a notch, with body and neck binding, and a Fishman Nashville piezo-ceramic pickup for amplified twang, while the G9201 Honeydipper rocks a nickel-plated brass body. Whatever your preferred style of folk, the Gretsch Roots Series has the axe you need. Order today!
