OVERVIEW

It all starts here.

Anyone interested in learning to play acoustic guitar can pick up this book and get started right away. This book teaches the basics of right- and left-hand technique and reading music. You'll learn to play with a pick, count time, and play the basic chords while enjoying the humor that Greg Horne brings to this easy, step-by-step method.

After learning the basics, you'll be introduced to fingerpicking, the blues, basic improvisation, barre chords, playing bass lines, and even arranging. A must for anyone serious about starting to learn acoustic guitar. The CD offers play-along opportunities and demonstrates the examples.

Good beginner book. Better then many others.

Comments about Alfred Beginning Acoustic Guitar (Book/CD):

I?m learning from this book. It covers most topics adequately. It does not cover instrument care and maintenance (i.e. changing strings, humidifiers,). Professional musician friends tell me it?s a good book, but it is deficient in scales and theory (which, I believe, are covered in other books in the series). Furthermore, it includes, but doesn?t stress learning standard notation (it allows you to use TAB as a crutch). The CD isn?t useful, but the book is sufficient as a stand-alone instructional tool. Maybe the DVD version is better? Despite these deficiencies, I enjoy the book and recommend it.
