Very excellent guitar picks..the best I have ever used in 30 years..no lie. They feel good, look good, and sound clean and clear. They wear very long, and may even sound better when the pointed tip begins to bevel with extensive wear. I have been using one pick, 2 hours a day, for over three months and it sounds great, and the delicious worn edged bevel makes it glide like butter over the strings. I particularly like the color also. They are not yellow, as the picture shows, but instead they actually look and feel like a clear honey amber. Right out of the pack they glide like butter over the strings...and they get even better as they wear. If you have not tried the SHARP pointed pick yet you will be delighted with them. That sharp pointed pick is just so eager to dig into those strings. Thank you Musicians Friend, for helping me to discover them! I will never use any other pick again!

Overall, the quality and sound of this pick is all there. I just prefer to have a bit more depth to the sound of my picks that the Ultex just can't deliver. The ultex is one of the fastest tracking picks I have used, but as far as sound is concerned, I think it lacks. There are much better sounding, yet unfortunately much more expensive picks in this catagory out there. If I were looking for the Ultex type of sound (which now I know I don't like) I would go with the Cool Juratex. The Cool Juraex tracks like the Ultex while retaining some warmth of say the Tortex pick. Like I said earlier, much better choices out there sound wise than the Ultex.
The Dunlop Ultex Sharp Picks have a great feel/grip without doing anything to it like adding sandpaper, or scoring it. The "Sharp" tip is comparable to the Jazz III tip. I bought a couple packages of these to try out based off of Paul Riario from Guitar World's review of them. Personally, I agree that they have an excellent attack, grip, and bright tone, but I think the brightness combined with a lack of depth in sound that is created from the pick is a bit overwhelming for electric guitar. That being said, it all depends on what style of music your playing. I prefer a warmer sound with nice crystally highs. The Ultex does NOT deliver on the warmt. They do however track very tightly. I guess I'm just used to the sound of my trusty Tortex III picks. The III's point, like the Ultex Sharp, helps to attain those crystally highs without sacraficing the warmth. I feel that the Ultex is just too "brittle" I sounding. I have the Ultex a 6 because they are not a bad pick at all, just not for me. I could see using these on a big warm Martin acoustic guitar though.
Dunlop picks are always of great quality.
Musician's Friend prices are always right; Especially in the accessories department.

Comments about Dunlop Ultex Sharp Picks - 6 Pack:

If you play/strum hard with this pick it tends to break at the tip rather than wear down.I know it is a brittle pick and that's what some people like about it,but when I'm playing live(or recording) the last thing I want to be thinking about is the stupid pick breaking and chipping at the tip.I'll be going back to tortex picks although they don't last as long,at least they don't break.

Comments about Dunlop Ultex Sharp Picks - 6 Pack:

I'm a semi-pro bassist who normally plays fingerstyle, but for some hard rock songs (Guns'n'Roses, Stain'd, etc) pickstyle can sound much better. I had been using Dunlop Tortex picks, but a friend recommended the Ultex and I prefer them because they have a slightly snappier attack.

I also prefer thinner gauges. When I first started playing pickstyle I went with thicker picks because I thought that's what bass players should use, but thicker picks sound too close to fingerstyle, and when I use a pick I want to sound like I'm using a pick.

The only negative to the Ultex picks is that they are nearly transparent, so if I drop one it can be hard to find, unlike the bright yellow .73 Tortexes. I always have extras in easy reach, but I'd rather not lose 'em.

Ultex do seem to last longer than Tortex, but it's hard to say for sure because I'm only an occasional picker.

To The Point, Hands down best pick I've ever used! I've tried the Dunlop Tortex Blacks and Big Stubby, but I didn't like the feel when it came to alternate picking and picking on a bass to they seemed WAY too rounded for my liking. I use the 1.14 and 1.4mm and they go a long way when it comes to picking on a 6-string electric and a 4-string bass. It does it all for me!

Some people say the jazz III is the be all end all for guitar picks. I'd tell them they haven't tried Dunlop's ultex sharp picks.

The material is provides the best grip I've ever felt, it's the perfect amount of sharp, and the 1.00 mm thickness provides minimal give. I use it for most of my guitar playing. I've even played bass with this thing.

                    Brightens up a dull guitar

Comments about Dunlop Ultex Sharp Picks - 6 Pack:

These picks really brighten up a dull sounding guitar/strings. I started with Dunlop Tortex 88mm picks that I would sharpen myself (back in the 80's when I was playing lots of speed metal) and then moved to the Jazz III sure grips in about 2007 which I still use because they're amazing for both tone and articulation. I tried some of these Ultex sharp and Jazz III picks on my acoustic and it really brightened it up, which it needed. I find them to give a little audible "scritch" sound on the attack when used with my electrics so I stick to using them on acoustic and they deliver niecely, giving a nice crystalline attack that Taylors have and my Martin doesn't. Amazing how much picks can affect your tone. Definitely the cheapest tone changer out there.

Comments about Dunlop Ultex Sharp Picks - 6 Pack:

This is the last of my 3 pick experiment. I bought these as an experiment not really caring if it was wasted money. I normally use Dunlop 1.14 Tortex which are pretty heavy but still feeling I can dig in with them as they sound really soft.
These 1.14 thick picks felt a little stiffer than my normal Tortex 1.14 that I use. Once I got used them and there sharper point, I really liked them and will probably switch. The dynamics are alot crisper without giving up too much of the softness of the Tortex. I haven't tried them on electric yet but I think my review would be the same as I usually use the same pick for everything.
