I have used Dunlop Tortex .73 exclusively for over 20 years until recently when a guitarist friend let me try out an orange Snarling Dogs BRAIN pick. I liked it so much I ordered tins of the red and black ones to try, along with three other brands of picks I thought looked interesting. After doing some thorough comparison testing of all five picks, I couldn't deny how much more clean and accurate my picking was when using the black BRAIN picks. I am now totally sold on them!

Some people don't like the bumpy grip on these picks, but I do. The raised part is far enough away from the edge of the pick that it doesn't interfere with playing or catch the strings in the way some gripped picks do. The bumps are also not as "sharp" feeling as other gripped picks. The BRAIN picks are comfortable, have good attack, just the right amount of flex and strength, and seem to last well. They are made from Nylon, so they should hold up for quite some time.

My style of playing is typically 90% metal, lots of string skipping, shreddy leads, driving rhythms, sweeps, and squeals (these picks are friggin' awesome for pinch harmonics!). They are also great for acoustic playing.

I have a lot of Dunlops in my gig bag, but I'll be using them as backups from now on. Definitely switching to BRAINs. More brains!!!

I bought a box of these picks (red .73) about a year and a half ago and they were probably the best picks I'd ever used for tone and ease of manipulation. However, I recently bought another box because unfortunately I gave most of my others away for people to try (wish I'd kept them). This newer box of picks (red .73) are of much lower quality and very much different than those I had just a year ago. They are flimsier, flop more, and have a scratchy yet tinny weak tone. Unfortunately, these newer picks are useless to me. I contacted there support several times over the last couple of weeks to ask where I can find the older stock but have gotten no response. Either they lost their old formula and molds or made some executive decision to cheapen the product in lieu of keeping the pretty tin box. I suppose they're banking on the fact that no one will notice to drop in quality hoping the fancy box will sell the product. I will send the remaining 11 picks in my last order back to musician's friend and tell them to send them back where the got them.

Comments about Snarling Dogs Brain Guitar Picks and Tin Box:

Many moons ago I used Fender thin guitar picks and bought them by the gross. Perfect flexibility and size but slippery and broke easily. Fast forward 45 years and we have Brain Picks .060 purple. Perfect flex, prefect size, unbreakable and non-skid surface. I bought 4 packs so as not to run out. It seems that the na'r-do-well pickers that hang at my house pocket them frequently.

After 37 years of playing I can honestly claim these are the best picks i've ever used. I use 3 different thicknesses for different purposes, all of which are dependable and have never let me down.

Comments about Snarling Dogs Brain Guitar Picks and Tin Box:

Have been a musician the better part of my life, mostly on guitar. Have tried several different types and styles of picks through the years, none was really special in any way shape or form While getting set up for a gig a couple of years ago i realized I didn`t grab the bag with my picks and capo in it. A band mate tossed me a black pick with raised ridges on the end you hold. It was awesome! I examined it closely later and read Brain on it. I was hooked, googled Brain picks the rest is history. Carry two tins of the black Brain picks in my gig bag where ever I play. Thanks for a great product!!! JT

Thought I'd found the perfect pick. But unfortunately the recent ones have been reformulated and redesigned and are of much lower quality in my opinion. During a sound test I opened the new box of red .73 brain picks thinking these were the same as the last ones I bought. In seconds I noticed the difference. I immediately went back to my worn older one. Later that evening I compared them side by side and saw they have a different mold and are flimsier with a weaker tinny tone. I've since found a close replacement in a different brand: there are much better picks than the recent brain picks for the money.

Buyer beware...these are not the same as they used to be ! They have changed the formula, and picks are now much thinner. I used to always buy the black med .88's, but have now had to move 2 steps up to the orange 1.14's to get approx weight & feel as the older original .88's. I thought maybe I had just received a bad batch, but not the case. Several of my musician friends have noticed and said the same thing.

Love these plectrums, I used to have a real bad habit of letting them slip out of my fingers while playing and now That's a thing of the past.impressive grip adds much more control over your over all playing and the plectrum. Doubt I'll be using any other brand from now on.
