Double-coil pickups, or "humbuckers," give a more weighty tone with great power that works well for metal and other heavier genres. Connecting an acoustic guitar to an amp calls for a different type of pickup than an electric one. Acoustic-friendly choices include microphones, soundhole pickups and piezo or saddle pickups. A mic gives you the advantage of picking up non-string effects like tapping, while the other acoustic pickup types give you clear tone directly from the strings.
