Celebrating 50 years of great guitar making with an OM/Folk guitar with old school charm.
2015 finds Alvarez Guitars celebration a half century of refined and ever-evolving craftsmanship. To mark this milestone achievement, Alvarez has created the AFA1965, part of their 1965 Series, a gorgeous line of guitars that exemplify everything they’ve learned over the years in terms of sound, aesthetics and affordability.
"We want every guitarist and Alvarez enthusiast to be able to join us in this 50 Year Celebration," said Chris Meikle, Head of Development at Alvarez and Senior Vice President of St. Louis Music. "Very often commemorative guitars are so expensive that they’re out of reach to the everyday player. Our goal with the 1965s was to create a line with beautiful appointments and tone, but make them as accessible as possible."
The APA1965 OM/Folk is made with premium solid spruce top, a beautiful Acacia back and sides, and handcrafted Paua abalone purfling. Other appointments include mother-of-pearl and abalone inlays, premium die-cast tuners and a bi-level rosewood bridge.

Comments about Alvarez 50th Anniversary AFA1965 OM/Folk Acoustic Guitar:
I just purchased this guitar to re-kindle my playing after taking some time off. I am going back to the place I started in really learning the guitar and that was an Alvarez acoustic. I am pleased after opening the boxes and getting out my new guitar and its case. The guitar was well-packed and surprisingly well set up right out of the box. I examined it minutely for defects like scuffed spots or sharp frets or buzzing and found nothing obvious. It was tuned a half-step down on each string and they were pretty accurate. That tells me that after shipping and cooling and heating it maintained its tuning pretty darn well. The tuners are no-name brand as far as I can see, but they tuned up quickly and easily and held well during my break-in session. I had a Snark tuner on it while chording and it was reading the chords dead on and they sounded pleasant and accurate to my ear. I chose this model for a couple of reasons; it has a wider fretboard for easier chording with my bigger fingers and a small body for comfortable handling. It has real wood for the bridge and bone for the nut and a solid spruce top which are the main things I look for in a practice instrument. It has more zing and less boom and that actually suits me fine. I am not sure about how the tone will be since the body is not mahogany which I prefer, but I intend to come back and update this review after we have time to "bond". In conclusion, the instrument is solid and well-constructed and very playable right out of the box. It has very nice abalone inlay and a nice sunburst face. So far so good... BTW I know it is an inexpensive Chinese made guitar, but the five stars is for the value for the money, not where it ranks compared to the HD-28V I got that smelled like a fresh piece of a forest when you opened the case. It was as good as could be expected for an instrument at less than ten percent of the price of the Martin.
