Comments about Alvarez AG610CESHB Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I needed a smaller bodied guitar for live performance. I have a Taylor Dreadnaught and it is just too big to wrestle with when playing live. But the Taylor has a great setup and sounds fantastic. So needless to say I was skeptical of a inexpensive acoustic. When I opened the box and got the layers of foam and plastic off the guitar I was blown away by the top. Grain was nice and tight (even tighter than the tops of 200 grade Taylors I have looked a lately). The finish is gorgeous. I got a pick and strummed it and of course it was out of tune. Then I discovered the tuner in the pickup (nice extra). I tuned the guitar up and strummed a few chords. Right away I was surprised at the volume and crispness of the low E string. It is as strong as a Dread...no, but it sounds pretty good for a Grand Auditorium body. I took the strings off and took the bridge saddle down about 3mm (don't try this at home unless you have experience setting up guitars) and gave the neck an adjustment. The guitar responded really well to some setup. The guitar plays great and sounds better than some guitars that I have paid twice this price for. You'd never know this was a inexpensive guitar. Does it have the complexity of a D28 or an 814....no not even close. Does it compare to a Taylor 114? Absolutely...and it costs a whole lot less.
