I just bought this guitar not expecting alot for the money but I was shocked. The battery was dead in it at the guitar store so I never got to hear it plugged in before I bought it. When I got it home and installed a new battery then hooked it into my amp. This thing sounded like heaven. The electronics are outstanding and the looks are brilliant. This is a maple back and sides guitar so along with the jumbo body the sound is cystal clear and a touch of brightness that is not over the top. I am an active musician and have been so for 20 years. I also own a JF65-12 guild (made in USA) this alvarez is a perfect companion at any gig.
I worked in a music store and studio for years. I have played literally thousands of guitars. If you are looking for a grand concert or jumbo I think that you will be pleasantly surprised with this model from Alvarez. I have owned this guitar for for about 7 years and I have really enjoyed playing it. While the electronics are not top of the line and the sound is a little thin, the action and play of my guitar are wonderful. If I had the money right now I would buy a second one!
I've owned an AJ-60 for a few years now and have never been let down as far as quality and sound. However, I will admit I do not own the newest version/model. I own the previous AJ-60, which I assume is only different in bridge style and pickguard shape. The features are superb, the tuner works great, the sound plugged in is beautiful. And, of course, the thing looks beautiful. I doubt you'll find a better sounding guitar for the price. I own several jumbo's of different brands, many of which cost more, but frequently I find myself playing this beaut over the others. Truly consider, I'd reccomend it to anyone.
I love this guitar. It sounds great. I paid the extra money from some different alvarez guitars because this one sounds the best by far. The problem I've had, and I've heard of other alvarez guitars, is that my guitar dried out twice. The first time it almost got ruined, but I got it humidified and it came back. The second time I had done everything like have a humidifier and keep it in the case, but it still dried out. This was frustrating because it warped the neck and caused a lot of frett buzz. Besides this problem I've loved everything about the guitar.
I already own an Alvarez Yairi (a DY75) but it doesn't compare to this! This has such a sweet, bright BIG sound. The workmanship is beautiful, it really stands out in a crowd. The first time I played it, I knew I had to have it. The action is low and it plays easy. The electronics are supurb and offer a wide range of sounds to tailor it to your specific sound. I used to manage a music store years ago, so I've seen and played a lot of different makes and models, this is undoubtedly one of the best. I'll put it up against guitars costing twice to three times as much.
I bought this guitar and its awsome. I played many guitars costing way more over double the price of this one and it was clearly the best. Not only because of the price but just over all sound , action, looks ,feel ect . This guitar is not only beautiful but sound so good. The highs are perfect the lows are awsome. The action can not be beat. I was planning on redoing the action as soon as I got it but little did I know Alvarez had everything set perfect. Action is insane low the neck is satin finish so you just glide from note to note with such ease. The size of the guitar is very comfortable and I would almost compare it to my Dreadnought. Its just slightly bigger in size but way more sound. I love this guitar. I was really considering a yamaha but Alvarez is hands down better (at least on acoustic stuff anyways.
I have both the 6 and 12 string AJ60SC. I traded a Ep Les Paul Standard for the 12 and loved it so much I began to search for the 6 string. They are both great, I have played many other guitars and in this price range they can not be beat. The action is great, the sound is wonderful, the builtin tuner is a great plus. I serve a small church and I barely need my amp when playing. My wife says that she can hear me from out side my house when I am playing unpluged. I love the jumbo body. Remeber that this is not a Gibson SJ200 but then again you are not paying Gibson prices. Buy this you will love it.
I bought my Alvarez AJ60SC over a year ago to replace a Martin D16GT that developed a glue migration problem which required a total rebuild to fix. Forget that! After playing this Alvarez in the store I fell in love and that was it! Granted, the Martin and Alvarez have different body styles and were designed for different styles of music and playing but when I had both I wound up playing the Alvarez 100% of the time. Soon, the Martin went to a new home (gotta luv eBay!). The only thing, and I mean "ONLY THING", that bothers me is the lack of fret markers on the frets themselves (they are on the binding). Of course, I knew this buying it but I play quite often in dark, dimly lit areas (i.e. camping) and found those markers to be necessary. But, that won't lead me to replace the guitar! No way!!! I love this baby. It's the first guitar I've had (and I've had many) that I can feel the tonal vibration throughout the body of the guitar, including neck, and throughout my torso and arms. The timbre is awesome! Tone is awesome! Electronics are pro quality! I LOVE THIS GUITAR!!!!
This thing is my baby. If you're into looks, it is understated and very attractive. More importantly, if sound is what you're after, this thing is the closest you're going to get to a Xthousand dollar taylor. It plays like a dream, especially with elixirs. Most importantly, it has a rich, thick, and LOUD sound. The only place that leaves notable room for improvement is the electronics. Something had to be more value-priced on this guitar and the electronics were what went first. However, this is not to say the sound you'll get out of it plugged in is at all sub-par for this price range. Far from it. When I do have to amp the guitar live, I'm generally totally comfortable plugging it in. If I'm really looking to replicate its tone, I'll mic it. Simple as that. I've definitely preferred the sound of the guitar miced for recording purposes.Bottom line, everyone who has an ear for tone and everyone who doesn't is amazed by the sound to price ratio of this guitar. Players love the way it plays. And if it matters to you, the pictures do not do justice to how attractive it is.
When i first saw this guitar, i thought, hey tahts a pretty guitar. Then i saw the price and said," Nah, its too cheap to be any good." So i started tryin out some other guitars and i didn't really like the sound of them. The store manager came in and pulled the AJ down for me. The first time i strummed it I was amazed at the beautiful tone and the crisp feel of the sound. So, I bought it. The built in tuner and electric hook up helped me out cause im constantly playing all over the place. This guitar is so amazing people have asked me if it was a couple thousand dollars! I will never get rid of it. If you're thinking of buying this, I would suggest it. And musicians friend has the best price on it, trust me. peace.
