A sweet little guitar with a solid African mahogany top and a deep sunburst finish.
The AP860SB is a wonderful little guitar that has a solid African mahogany top with a mirror-like, deep shine sunburst finish and African mahogany back and sides. The top has an all round 2.0mm paua abalone purfling against ivory ABS binding and just the right amount of inlay so its classy, showy and understated all at the same time. The purfling is matched to the rosewood and paua rosette and 12ft. fret pearl inlay on its dot-free rosewood fingerboard.
Sonically the 860 is very open for a parlor, but Alvarez allowed the small body to still create enough compression to have focus for a modern, yet traditional sound. The mahogany brings out the mids and the scalloped bracing pushes the trebles and bass to go with them, so you have balance across the strings and an intimate response.
The 860 also has the unmistakable Alvarez bi-level rosewood bridge. This system significantly increases the break angle from the saddle to the top. This increased down pressure raises string tension, giving the guitar a very responsive feel and adding quality to its volume and sustain.
This is a sweet little guitar with a big personality and it's perfectly well dressed.

Recently purchased my Allvarez, and it has exceeded my expectations; didn't find any reviews before my purchase so I went to my local guitar store to try out, with really the intention of buying a Martin or Taylor in the next level price range.
I love the overall look, the vintage sunburst, the parlor size body, open headstock ; what was more surprising was the overall sound , great bass and mids.
The mahogany top and sides, binding , bone nut at this price level is amazing.
It honestly plays as well as my Gibson j185.and considering its size, my dimarzio acoustic pickup fit in the soundhole.
I'm very stoked about this guitar.
