OVERVIEW

An affordable guitar with a hand-selected solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and powerful tone.

This Alvarez Artist Series AD60 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar is a best-selling dreadnought and a truly exciting instrument to play. The AD60 is a member of the Alvarez Artist '60 Series. Alvarez was careful to get the construction just right to allow this series to sing, and deliver a player experience that's exceptional for a mid-price instrument.

The term "solid top" of course refers to the soundboard of an acoustic guitar being made of solid wood, rather than being laminated. However, just because the top is solid, it doesn't necessarily mean the sound automatically benefits from this feature. The tone of the instrument only improves significantly when the whole guitar is built correctly to really release the energy a solid soundboard can generate. The Artist Series is built to do exactly this.

Each model is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce a tone and player experience, rarely found in affordable instruments.

The sound is warm, open and powerful, and both the treble and bass registers are clearly present and balanced in relation to each other. These guitars feel right and are exciting to play and responsive.

The solid ˜A' grade Sitka spruce tops are hand-selected from quartersawn wood. This ensures consistent quality, and its no secret better guitars are made from better wood. These tops not only look great but they are stiff and strong and finely grained. This allows them to be cut just that tiny bit thinner, which lets them dance a little more and produce a lot more vibration, and ultimately a richer tone.

All of the components are made of natural materials such as mother-of-pearl and abalone inlays, real bone saddles and nuts and rosewood appointments.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AD60 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this about three weeks ago and can't put it down! This instrument has a robust sound for the price and is remarkably easy to play. I replaced the standard d'Addario strings with EXP16's to make it more playable. That may be a personal preference. Low action means you will need to use a lighter gauge string to prevent buzzing.

This feels very solid and high quality and produces a really warm rich tone. Couldn't ask for much more from a budget guitar.

Very satisfied with my purchase! Thanks!

This guitar is simply amazing!!The combo of mahogany and sitka spruce sounds heavenly. This things stays in tune like a champ. Best feeling guitar I've ever played as well. Much rather have this than a Martin D18 for sure. I can't wait to get a nice vintage Alvarez next. Alvarez customer for life here.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AD60 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I had a tobacco sunburst Alvarez in the late 70's, early 80's as my first guitar. Have missed it for years since I sold it in 1988. My wife got me this for Christmas, I love it, feels great, plays smooth, sound is full and very pleasing! The wood all around is beautiful. Did not need any setup at all out of the box. The only other guitar I have that I can say that about is a $4k Gibson LP! Well worth the money, do not hesitate if you are thinking about this one.

Great playing and sounding guitar for very litttle money. The sitka spruce top and bone saddle and nut make for a full articulate sound.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AD60 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I recently purchased the sunburst. It has one of the nicest finishes I've seen on a guitar. It stays in tune very well. It has a good sound and was set up perfectly. I like the 3/4" nut as I have bigger hands. I would recommend this guitar to anyone. One of the best at this price point.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AD60 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

30 year guitar veteran (Bluegrass and country) I never thought i'd buy a guitar, without playing it first, but I couldn't find one I liked locally, and thought hey it's musicians friend. I can easily return it.
Man was i surprised! I ordered it on Monday and got it on Friday. (and that was regular post) After a quick tune and about 3 chords I knew i wasn't going to return this guitar. it has a great ring, nice lows and highs, and nice factory setup. there was a slight buzz on the 3rd fret that worried me me a bit, but as soon as i put the new Martin Tony Rice medium bluegrass strings on, (buzz gone) the guitar really came alive. This is probably the BEST sounding Guitar I've ever had. It's comparable to my old martin d-18 sound wise, but blows it away in volume. It's a very light guitar, almost like a mahogany. The finish is perfect and it looks great. I really think that at this price, you can't beat this guitar.

I bought the black restock. I couldnt pass up the price drop even though I was skeptical. The guitar looks flawless. Like a new guitar as far as I can tell. The action was low and it played real nice but had some buzz. Had to have the action raised to get rid of the buzz so it doesnt play quite as easy now but overall a great sound at a cheap price.

I wanted a quasi-decent acoustic and this more than fit the bill! Very playable.stays in tune,no buzzing of frets, sweet balanced tone.Mine came with fairly heavy strings, going to try it out with light gauges and see what I have then. I bought the open box,had a small piece of binding on the back chipped off, nothing to affect it or anything I care about. Would buy this again in a second

I bought this guitar to be my second/upgrade guitar. Originally, I was playing some squire starter guitar. It was really bad. It never stayed in tune, It was basically made of cardboard, and the neck cut my fingers on multiple occasions. I saw this guitar (AD60BK), it was about the same price as the squire so I bought it. Right out of the box it played great, not fantastic, but well worth the money. A great guitar to learn on and play!

Try it out!

I play in a small bluegrass band, and we play mostly bluegrass gospel. This is a great guitar, and I was pleasantly surprised that it plays as good as (sometimes better) than my Martin.

This was the second AD60 that I purchased from M/F in the past 3 weeks, both Natural restocks. Not a scratch on either, as far as I can see. Great bargains!!

Guitar is beautiful and well equipped. Tuners hold up very well and it stays in tune better than I expected. Only problem is a bit of fret buzzing on the low e string at about the 6th fret and lower. It's at my local shop getting a full setup to correct that and hopefully will eliminate that. Great guitar for a beginner or intermediate player that doesn't need the cutaway model.

I received this instrument a few years ago. the first thing I noticed was the very thin finish. Many value-oriented guitars have thick plastic-like finishes but the AD-60BLK (BLK stands for black finish) I got had visible and tangible lines from the grain. I can lightly run my fingernail over the top and feel organic goodness. The guitar was bright and tight sounding but playable. There was no neck hump funnybusiness where they have shave the frets to hide the poor job. Being a beginner with nothing else to play, I plucked, strummed, and whacked it till the cows came home. As time went on the guitar really started to develop its own characteristics. the lows and mids appeared, the soundboard really started to vibrate when I played and the guitar got loud. If I laid into it it got loud enough to bother others in a dorm more the the guy with music speakers blasting. I put on some better tuners and all of a sudden I had a cheap (i got it on cyber Monday for 200 U.S), sleeper-box. Other people started commenting on it and my friend bought one when I told him the price. Maybe I got the 1 in a thousand guitar, maybe I just got really lucky. But I doubt it. I really hope Alvarez eventually gets the attention it deserves. And i'm never going to regret this purchase. It was better than the "upgrade" more than 6 times the price of that Alvarez *cough* Eastman *cough*. I hope to lend it to someone who really knows how to play to hear it at its full potential
