I have owned the Ad-90 SCK for almost 6 years. There is a difference in brand new and seasoned. The guitar has retained all of it's cosmetic appearance, the spruce top has darkened richly, and the tone has improved over the years. I have never had a problem with the amplification system and never a problem with intonation, or the neck.I did change the bridge pins to matching boxwood pins that compliment both the cosmetics and the sound transference. The original pins were as stated earlier, cheap plastic and should be considered at the factory to be inferior. I live in Hawaii and nothing has tarnished, rusted, or become out of adjustment in 6 years. This guitar is never cased, stays on a stand it's entire life and is ready to perform always.I have always been partial to Alvarez acoustics and this one tells part of the story why. It's great to buy a new guitar, but the story unfolds as to the guitars worth and quality, only years later, this one has told a true tale.
This guitar sounds great. Warm, rich tone. It sounds great plugged in and unplugged. Nice built in tuner and EQ. Finish is flawless and beautiful. This a wonderful, wonderful acoustic-electric guitar and it's only $500. I would recommend this to anyone.
I have owned and played this guitar for about a year now. It sounds great on it's own and plugged into an amp. The only thing I had to do was to have the action lowered a little, a small investment for a wonderful not-so-expensive guitar. It is a high quality guitar at a modest price. No regrets buying this one!
This guitar is absolutely stunning. It has a crystal clear sound. I own many other acoustics but this one beats them all. for a sweet price, Its worth buying. I recommend it to any guitar player. I've owned this guitar for almost a year now and it still hasn't lost its value from when It was brand new. It beats other acoustics twice the price, with out a doubt. I love this guitar
Beautifully figured back and sides plus clear top. Great projection and round timbre when played un-plugged. Have added optional condenser mic that allows an amped sound that is true to the woods and yet cuts thru the mix even when playing with a resonator banjo. pearl binding and buttons are a classy addition. Sweet! Get one.
I own an AD90SCK and I have been Overwhemingly pleased with it. This guitar has an incredible full sound and it retains the punchiness that other guitars of its kind lack. I have played other high-end acoustic guitars from Martin and Taylor, but I have never been as satisfied with those as I am with my Alvarez. This was my first guitar that actually cost me some money and I am so lucky that I got a guitar that is so well-rounded. The only drawback is that the piezo system isn't the absolute best. The controls aren't that great and sound quality is lost just a bit when run through an amp, but overall, this is one amazing guitar.
First off, this is a beautiful guitar. From the pearl inlays to the pearloid tuning buttons. However, the stock pickguard it came with was just not to my liking. Also, the bridge pins are made of cheap plastic.Plugged in the MKII system does it job, but it's not as nice as a Bband or LR Baggs. I would have scored this guitar perfect. Please don't get me wrong though, plugged in, it sounds great, but I've heard better.Unplugged, this guitar sounds just as good as any Taylor I've ever played. If you are on a budget, I would definately recommend getting this guitar!
This is my review of the Alvarez AD90SCK Dreadnaught.....I am very impressed w/ this fine offering from Alvarez. Mine is a factory second and is stamped used on the back.....I can't fine any "flaw" anywhere.......Very pretty guitar and the purfling is nicely done....Not overly"blinged out" but nice. I bought this one from a honest dealer and was assured of the quality/finish.He also gave me a 48hr return policy....AND I saved about $200. I purchased this to use in church. I run this through a UltraSound AG-30 and sometimes use a HolyGrail Reverb and MonsterFX SwampThang Tremolo pedal. Nice setup and easy to transport. Sounds great!!! Electronic are good and I can adjust my tone from the guitar with good results. The build in tuner is handy and pretty easy to read. I have noticed that some tops are darker than mine.....Did they forget to apply a toner to mine makeing it a factory second? The top on mine is lighter and has a nice straight grain pattern....The back and sides are very figured.....Even with the electronics this guitar is not a back breaker....Frets are nicely shaped and apllied. Grover tuners are decent with a perloid buttons. Mine was in tune and free of any buzzes or binding up at the nut......Refreshing !!! Tone is bright and fairly balance....I did replace the bridge pins with some Buffalo horn pins and strung it up with D'add EJ-17(mediums). Really balanced- bright tone and projects very well.... Mine did not come with a case but fits nicely in my Kaces dreadnaght case. Neck is comfortable and my hand never feels cramped or tired. If you need a nicely done A/E....that performs well bone stock and is a little differnt than everything else(LOVE the sharp cutaway!!)Buy this guitar.
