Alvarez

An affordable guitar with a hand-selected solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and punchy tone.

The Alvarez Artist Series AF60 Folk Acoustic Guitar is a really nice Folk/OOO shape, and packs a big punch for its size. It’s suitable for all types of music and playing styles. The AF60 is a member of the Alvarez Artist ’60 Series. Alvarez was careful to get the construction just right to allow this series to sing, and deliver a player experience that's exceptional for a mid price instrument.

The term “solid top” of course refers to the soundboard of an acoustic guitar being made of solid wood, rather than being laminated. However, just because the top is solid, it doesn't necessarily mean the sound automatically benefits from this feature. The tone of the instrument only improves significantly when the whole guitar is built correctly to really release the energy a solid soundboard can generate. The Artist Series is built to do exactly this.

Each model is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce a tone and player experience, rarely found in affordable instruments.

The sound is warm, open and powerful, and both the treble and bass registers are clearly present and balanced in relation to each other. These guitars feel right and are exciting to play and responsive.

The solid ‘A’ grade Sitka spruce tops are hand selected from quarter-sawn wood. This ensures consistent quality, and its no secret better guitars are made from better wood. These tops not only look great but they are stiff and strong and finely grained. This allows them to be cut just that tiny bit thinner, which lets them dance a little more and produce a lot more vibration, and ultimately a richer tone.

All of the components are made of natural materials such as mother of pearl and abalone inlays, real bone saddles and nuts and rosewood appointments.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AF60 Folk Acoustic Guitar:

Alvarez makes a great above entry level guitar. The burst finish is reminiscent of the late twenties Gibsons. Very personal size. Don't complain about action because these are straight from China and very well made. Seek a competent luthier and pay for a professional setup. DIY folks can easily adjust the truss rod and raise and lower action at the saddle. Beyond that leveling frets or lowering nut action get a pros help. Mine required truss rod adjust and that was it besides tuning. A fan of Alvarez. Make sure it says solid top laminated sides and back are expected until you hit the over five mark and likely more than that. Good job Alvarez and musicians friend. My spruce is gorgeous, lots of medullary rays means well quartered spruce

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AF60 Folk Acoustic Guitar:

This Alverez is a great little guitar. My action was a little too high too, but I lowered it, with no problem. I think guitar companies do this so people won't complain about fret buzz. I just don't understand people gripping about high action, but buy the guitar anyway. Play the guitar in the store and if you like the sound the knowlegable people at MF can probably lower the action for you "before" you buy it.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AF60 Folk Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar because I wanted a short scale acoustic, and had herd some good things about Alvarez. I will never buy another alvarez again. The action is very high, and I lowered it as far as the saddle and nut would allow, but it is still realy high. the bridge design only lets you lower so far, and yes I adjusted the truss rod too. The neck is satin(which I prefer), but it just has a realy cheap feel to it. The sound is actually the only good thing here. It does sound good for laminated back and sides. But the action is the worst. I have a fully laminated washburn cheapo, that has better action than this. never again.
