OVERVIEW

An affordable guitar with a hand-selected solid cedar top, rosewood back and sides, and an open tone.

The Alvarez Artist Series AF75 Folk Guitar is inspired by the Alvarez-Yairi Bob Weir (WY1) model. It has a folk-sized body with a cedar/rosewood combination. This is an absolutely gorgeous guitar with a lovely warm, open tone. The AF75 is a member of the Artist Series 70s, which are stunning guitars made from hand-selected A grade sitka with rosewood backs and sides. The high-gloss finish really brings out the beauty and grain in the rosewood and like all Artist Series they have advanced scalloped bracing and all natural components. Just like Artist ’60s models, the ‘70’s have incredible tone and the rosewood helps to accentuate the highs and lows just a tad more.

The term “solid top” of course refers to the soundboard of an acoustic guitar being made of solid wood, rather than being laminated. However, just because the top is solid, it does not necessarily mean the sound automatically benefits from this feature. The tone of the instrument only improves significantly when the whole guitar is built correctly to really release the energy a solid soundboard can generate. The Artist Series is built to do exactly this.

Each model is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce a tone and player experience, rarely found in affordable instruments.

The sound is warm, open and powerful, and both the treble and bass registers are clearly present and balanced in relation to each other. These guitars feel right and are exciting to play and responsive.

The solid A grade cedar tops are hand-selected from quartersawn wood. This ensures consistent quality, and its no secret better guitars are made from better wood. These tops not only look great but they are stiff and strong and finely grained. This allows them to be cut just that tiny bit thinner, which lets them dance a little more and produce a lot more vibration, and ultimately a richer tone.

New Artist Series guitars look stunning and all of their components are made of natural materials such as mother of pearl and abalone inlays, real bone saddles and nuts and rosewood appointments.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AF75 Folk Guitar:

The woods give it a very pronounced warm and throaty low-mid sound that I've been falling in love with for almost a year now. It has crystal clear treble filled, at the same time, deep highs. This guitar sounds particularly great for jazz or finger picked classical but there isn't a style of music this tone won't compliment.

Currently I have this guitar in Baritone/Drop A and it sounds amazing for classical and even jamming out some Conquering Dystopia (instrumental metal, check them out). The guitar really is perfect for low tuning, it never gets muddy or flat sounding, with extremely good note separation and clarity. The throaty tone gives it an awesome punchy, heavy sounding fifth chord (power chord). Honestly the guitar doesn't have much bass (a lot less than a Mah./Spru. Dreadnought) but the tone greatly compliments the bass end.

Unfortunately the intonation was not set correctly, though VERY close, and is of course very annoying to fix for an acoustic but I'll get around to it eventually. This guitar holds tuning extremely well but now that I have 13-58s on it the nut sticks a good bit and needs some filing. Mine has no sticking issues at all with a set of 12 gauge. Last thing I can think of is that the frets weren't all that smooth against the strings, but that is easily remedied.

Extremely comfortable guitar, high quality finish and workmanship, PERFECT thin satin neck, extremely satisfied guitarist!

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AF75 Folk Guitar:

This is a good guitar for rhythm playing, especially accompanying a vocalist with a high range. The combination of rosewood and cedar produces a rich, full sound, but it's quite a bit darker than rosewood and spruce, so it's probably not for everyone. The 000 body style keeps the guitar from getting too boomy, bassy or muddy, but I wouldn't recommend it for fingerpicking. The nut is also a bit narrow for that. I think the sound is reminiscent of an autoharp, but without the deluge of notes, of course. The guitar arrived in perfect condition. I was supposed to get a restock, but the plastic was still on the pickguard, and the tags were still on the headstock, so I don't think it was played much before it was returned. Setup was too low, but a few twists of the truss rod fixed that. I suspect changes in humidity between here and wherever it was set up to be the cause. Neck is straight and frets are even. Overall an excellent purchase.

This is a good Student Guitar.

Note, it is not available with another side|BACK.
The neck uses a wood that shows the same, whatever one you look at. This removes Student claims and competetion over the WOOD|LOOK of the Guitar.

It is well built and sounds excellent.

It has a short neck (under Chord), however this is one you should know as well as the standard neck (Guitar|Chello) cord.

By the way, and am not a Teacher|Instructor and, as well, not a Student this Era. Was both: Mozart's Era. That's life on earth, believe it or not.
