OVERVIEW

An affordable guitar with a hand-selected solid spruce top, maple back and sides, and B-BAND electronics.

The Alvarez Artist Series AJ80CE Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar is big, bright and beautiful. The solid A grade Sitka tops with forward scalloped bracing lets this guitar really sing and the player experience is fantastic, you can really feel the energy of this guitar vibrate against your chest. Like most classic Jumbos the '80 has maple back and sides and all natural, premium components throughout. This acoustic-electric version is fitted with the awesome SYS550 pickup system EQ with chromatic tuner.

The term "solid top" of course refers to the soundboard of an acoustic guitar being made of solid wood, rather than being laminated. However, just because the top is solid, it does not necessarily mean the sound automatically benefits from this feature. The tone of the instrument only improves significantly when the whole guitar is built correctly to really release the energy a solid soundboard can generate. The Artist Series is built to do exactly this.

Each model is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce a tone and player experience, rarely found in affordable instruments.

The sound is warm, open and powerful, and both the treble and bass registers are clearly present and balanced in relation to each other. These guitars feel right and are exciting to play and responsive.

The solid ˜A' grade Sitka spruce tops are hand selected from quarter-sawn wood. This ensures consistent quality, and its no secret better guitars are made from better wood. These tops not only look great but they are stiff and strong and finely grained. This allows them to be cut just that tiny bit thinner, which lets them dance a little more and produce a lot more vibration, and ultimately a richer tone.

New Artist Series guitars look stunning and all of their components are made of natural materials such as mother of pearl and abalone inlays, real bone saddles and nuts and rosewood appointments.

SYS550 dual pickup
The SYS550 designed by B-BAND is a pro-level EQ and pickup that reproduces the sound of the guitar very closely with great clarity. B-BAND uses a patented under saddle electret film pickup which eliminates synthetic or processed sounds often heard with piezo or other styles of pickup. The result is a very true, acoustic sound. SYS550 also has an accurate, backlit chromatic digital tuner.

After trying a multitude of acoustic guitars with low to medium, to high prices. From a $100 dollar [*] to a $2500 HD28. Almost settling for a Breedlove which sounded great for a mid-level inst. I happened upon the Alvarez. Not necessarily my first choice (a Jumbo), but I owed it to myself to try as many as I could before parting ways with my cash. I swear.. this guitar resonates like a scallop braced Martin and has the glassy bell like top as well.. A balanced powerful sound when needed, a delicate romantic sound if you favor that playing style. The fit and finish are wonderful, the bound neck plays effortlessly .I would buy this guitar over and over again without question. I might mention I also own another Alvarez that I purchased in 1985. It was the wall flower in the acoustic guitar room at the music store, there were much prettier looking guitars, but none had the build and sound quality . It ended up going home with me that day. Its true when they say sound improves with age, the old one has, and I expect the new one will as well.

I was looking to upgrade my live guitar. I was hoping being a jumbo the sound would be bigger than my dreadnoughts. It really wasn't. It played just okay. The reason I sent it back was the electronics. There was something wrong with the pick up system. The entire body of the guitar was microphonic. Even the tuner had a hard time picking up the strings. Musicians Friend was awesome as usual. I have never sent anything back before. They took great care of me. I bought a different guitar and am very pleased with that one...

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AJ80CE Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

It is a great versatyle guitar at a very low price. It can be use to play rock, slide, jazz, blues, folk, pop, ballads, gospell almost any kind of music. The tesiture is balance. It has a great electronics and the tunner is acurate.

It is a pro instrument, with high end features. Action is great, nice finish details. Worth the money! I am a music professor at a university here in my homeland, and I been using Alvarez guitars since 1988 and I strongly recomend this brand to my students and collegues!

Like most guitarist I played everything I could get my hands on.But chose this for the price to value. This jumbo has such a warm tone with lots of sustain and thats unplugged!I always got drowned out playing lead unplugged but not on this. The bottom is full but not muddy, the mid is clear and defined and the top has that beautiful bell like tone I've only found on more expensive guitars. The volume is very balanced as well.Plugged in you can get the exact same tone or change it dramitically no cheap electronics here.I bought this guitar to play not to keep put up and it's getting it.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AJ80CE Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar has the best factory setup I ever experienced. Better than my two Martins. Better than my Seagull. And even better than two Takamines that were setup by Third Coast Guitar in Chicago.

The sound is loud, full, and with good sustain. This is now my favorite guitar. It gives you its all out of the factory box. You don't have to wait years for a solid wood guitar to open up. The larger body of this guitar sings out!

I bought a Gator GC-Jumbo case for this Alvarez and it fits pretty well. I just had to press my fingers hard to indent the case's foam plush liner to make room for the electronic controls.

I'M SO HAPPY WITH THIS GUITAR I BOUGHT ANOTHER TO HAVE A BACKUP in case the first guitar should ever fail or get lost or stolen. Now that's a recommendation for this guitar-maker and model. NUFF SAID!

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AJ80CE Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Yes , soon as I played the first cord on this fine guitar I knew I was done . I have been trying just about all of the brands out there of every acoustic/electric 6 strings from Martin to Taylor , from epiphone to fender and my last one was an Epiphone EJ200 it was good ; I had remember ten years ago my cousin had an Alverez guitar in Mississippi and I tryed his wallflower I think wow that thing had a beautiful tone it seemed like the sound had a sustain that would never quit and I have not found that sound in any acoustic guitar for a while so I read two reviews on this jumbo Alverez the one that impressed me was the one put there by a college professor , he recommended this model to his students as well as advanced players . So I got mine it sounds like a dream just a sweet bright full tone that does not die down it seems to carry until the next note or chord is played . This is not plugged in yet , so do yourself a favor skip the flash ftom the epiphone flashy looks with the linated top of some sort of plywood and get this beautiful sounding master peice , the tone will floor you . So you do not have to pay an arm & a leg for a great acoustic/ elec. guitar try them all then try an Alverez , in my opinion you want be sorry , you will be filled with joy not because you saved hundred of dallors but because you have just found one great sounding GUITAR -Amen-

Played my friends for quite a while, and went home to buy my own. the neck is smooth and the sound beats the tylor I used to play that doubles it in price. I plugged it in for a show the other night and it sound great after I ajusted the eq on it. The built in tuner is the best built in tuner I have used. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AJ80CE Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

UPS just delivered yesterday. I was totally blown away. I love everything about this guitar. The tuner is accurate. The sound is awesome plugged or unplugged. The 1/4 inch and XLR plugs are great for using with an amp or PA system. The neck is just a tiny bit larger than on my old Alvarez but after a few minutes of playing I decided that was a good thing. I quickly noticed that my big fingers weren't muting notes that weren't supposed to be muted. But there was one final test before deciding to keep it. I had to know how it sounds plugged in. I don't have an acoustic amp (yet) so I plugged it into my Vox VT 20+ modeling amp. I turned on the acoustic modeling effect and immediately realized that I don't need an acoustic amp. If I had to describe this guitar in one word it be "Perfection".

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AJ80CE Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Comparing the Alvarez AJ80CE to Epiphone EJ220SCE Jumbo, the Alvarez sounds much better acoustically. Bass & Treble fill the whole spectrum, sustain and easily inspiring players. Plugin the PA then the AJ80CE fish-man electronic could not compare with the Shadow Nanoflex Esonic2 from Epiphone. The AJ80CE neck is very comfortable to play for long hours with the 1.75 nut width so very good for finger picking too. Body depth and width is a little bit smaller the Epi therefore comfortable to hold the AJ80 than the EpiEJ220. In the winter time, the Epiphone trussrod need adjust regularly otherwise the neck will back bow and fretbuzz all frets. When I first purchase Epiphone I keep changing different string set every 2 day because it does not have the sound I want, from Elixir, Martin, D'A EXP. Here are my conclusion:
            - Acoustically unplug the Alvarez is 9/10, and the EpiphoneEJ220 is 6/10.
            - Plugin: Epiphone Nanoflex Esonic 2 sounds wonderful 9/10, and the Alvarez is 6/10
            - Body width & depth: Alvarez is smaller a little bit and comfortable to hold & play for long hrs
            - Nutwidth is 1.75 ia little wider than Epi, and very excellent for finger picking.
            - Binding, neck, abalone: very professional looking comparing busy looking of Epi

I have own at least 5 different Alvarez Artist series. Also Epiphone EJ220SCE, AJ220SCE Epiphone Dave Navarro, and many other acoustic guitars. I do love the sound of AJ80CE, and it is the best acoustic steel string I like to play for hours. I am playing both jazz, classical, fusion, and rock for more than 40 yrs

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AJ80CE Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Some years ago I owned the AJ 60CE from Alvarez and, while it played and sounded extremely well both plugged and unplugged, the notes lost sustain as you went up the neck. Not at all so on this same-shaped jumbo which has remarkable action right out of the box. The reason I subtracted a star is two-fold. One is that the neck edge is actually rather sharp--meaning that the arc on the edges where the fingerboard meets the neck needs to be greater in order to play comfortably for long periods of time. It's not that the frets jut out or anything. I just feel a rather pronounced edge that s/b rounded off IMO for a better playing experience. The sound however is quite spectacular both acoustically and electronically. Just super.

The other of my two-fold gripe relates to small flaws in the finish--excess glue at the neck joint, a run of gloss finish also near the neck joint where the body gloss ends and the satin finish on the neck begins. I don't mean for the amount of ink I've put into identifying these to mean there's a disqualifying mess, I'd just like to be able to say the "fit and finish" are perfect or what they could or should be and I can't. This guitar is easily worth its price however and I'm very happy to be able to say that the issue about note susstain getting shorter as one approached the cutaway of the earlier AJ60CE is definitely a thing of the past. I bought that Alvarez Jumbo new in a guitar store and, though I've owned a Mexican Martin and Taylor 210 CE since, I was confident enough that the Alvarez could be ordered sight yet unseen from MF. It won't be going back, that's for sure. The neck edge arc issue I'll get over in time and it's something I think Alvarez would do well to round out, but the finish issues are minor and almost invisible given the transparency of the glue and gloss coat over such bright-colored maple and are not atypical for an Asian import. Small stuff.

I love my Martin D25K, and I play it by myself 95% of the time... but in the rare instances when I played with others, I was getting drowned out. Plus I was in need of an acoustic-electric. Enter this beast - practically free, and it booms. Now I have to worry about the quality of my playing since everyone hears me :-).
