i've had this guitar for a year now and I'm continually impressed with it's tone and volume. this guitar plays with similar tonal qualities as much more expensive guitars. i think it far outplays the martin "x" series and is of similar quality to the martin d-15 line, just much different. i've played it over a PA system and was shocked with the clarity and responsiveness that this guitar kept. it's the greatest non-solid wood guitar i've played and all of my guitar friends that have played it have been very impressed. alvarez really has something going on with this. i play a lot of styles from light finger picking to heavy strumming and this guitar really performs, but seems to side a little better with fingerpicking. my only gripe is (i have the amb) that it's kinda strange looking. i've been back and forth as to whether i love the way it looks or really hate it. lately i've been on the love it side, because the flaming is so beautiful, but it is definitely unusual. i'm very glad i bought it and would recommend it as a great moderate grade guitar. also is very good for playing acoustic lead because the mids and treble are stronger than the bass response.

This is a review for a FD60AMB. It has a beautiful amber finish, has a 2 piece book matched quilted maple top, and is made in China. The tone and playability are good although there is some fret buzz in various places. The overall quality is good but I have one big problem developing. It appears as though there was not enough top bracing built into the 2 piece top. They probably used the same top bracing as they do for the solid spruce top which is not adequate. The top on my guitar is warping in front of and in back of the bridge. The corners of the bridge are starting to pull up as a result. I've gone to lighter strings to hopefully arrest the warpage but only time will tell. I can't get a refund at this point since the guitar is just over 45 days old and it only started warping recently. The Alvarez case made for this guitar doesn't close well and the glue is coming loose on the top of the case. Again another quality control problem. I bought this guitar based on the Alvarez reputation for quality but clearly these Chinese made guitars aren't up to the standards that Alvarez has maintained over the years.

Gorgeous Instrument!

I bought the FD60S back in May and have patted myself on the back ever since. This has become the main 6 string acoustic in my arsenal. It plays beautifully, sounds great both plugged and unplugged and it is a visually stunning instrument(I own the Amber one). The pictures on the website don't do it justice. My only concern is the built in tuner. It gets you in the ballpark, but my Boss TU60 is much more accurate. Buy this guitar. You won't regret it!

Best for the price!

I picked this guitar up at the music store a couple of days ago without much thinking about it. Strummed a few licks of Neil Youngs "Heart of Gold" and my mouth fell open! Wow, do these ever have a full, rich, sound for the price. Even one of the store workers came over and asked which guitar i played that on! He said he hadn't played one of these yet, but it sounded unreal! I gotta have one now even though another guitar is the last thing i need! Just play one and see for'll be amazed. BTW, they are gorgeous as well!

Best acoustic ive played so far

This guitar is great. An affordable guitar that is worth buying along with a wonderful tone with it. Its not bad for what you pay with a built in tuner on the side.

Great guitar!

This was my first acoustic guitar and I don't think I'll ever need another one. this guitar is amazing. the sound is so clean and warm and it looks amazing on stage. I've had friends offer to trade me their taylors and martins for this and I payed half of what they payed for their guitars. You will not regret getting this guitar.

My beautiful 50th birthday present...

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

My wife gave me this guitar(the amber colored one) for my 50th birthday. I had been ogling it for a year and had played one at a nearby dealership. The action is nice and low, the neck similar to an electric (nice for me because I don't have the longest of fingers) and the tone is really nice and warm. The onboard tuner is a useful addition. I haven't amped it yet so I cannot comment on that (I'm more of an acoustic guy anyway), but I'm sure it will sound great. As for cosmetics--it is BEAUTIFUL! I own an Alvarez Dove(also beautiful!) I have had and played since 1977 so I know the quality of Alvarez well. I played Fenders, Martins and Ovations at the same dealership and I liked the Alvarez better than most of them overall(and for the price differential you cannot lose). I am sure that I will be playing this fine little number for many years to come. Give one a try before you go out and spend an arm and a leg on something else and I bet you'll agree with me.

Own a legend

The Alvarez FD60 over-all is a nice guitar. The action on mine was a little high so I lowered it. After I did that it played great. I checked out the sell price versus the list price and it was true. I could have paid alot more money for this same guitar if I hadn't come to this site. The pictures don't do justice. The amber model is much prettier than it appears. I own a Alvarez full bodied DY46 and this FD60 sounds almost as good unpluged. My wife says she can't tell the difference. The advantage of this guitar is the versitility of going unpluged or amped. Both sound great. I ran it on a Fender Acoustasonic Junior and it sounded wonderful.

Great Value

By SGfan-UnZsV

This guitar plays better than many taylors and martins I've played. I have only played it for a couple of weeks, but I'm very happy. The grover tuners are fantastic. I bought the amber model and it's beautiful. You can spend more money on other guitars, but for the money the tone and quality of this one can't be beat.

Beautiful guitar and great sound!

from Alaska

I just purchased the Amber colored Alvarez FD60S Fusion acoustic-electric guitar and I absolutely love it. The image they give you here doesn't do the color enough justice, it's GORGEOUS! I get so many compliments on it. And the sound is beautiful, even though it's thinner and has the cutaway. It's a guitar I'm sure I'll play for years to come. And you can't beat this price! Great value! Get it! You won't be disappointed.

Alvarez FD60S

By Donald-HnPUf

This guitar really does sound amazing for the price. I mainly play classical fingerpicking and this is one of the best guitars I have because it has that bright punch needed for fingerpicking. My only negatives are that the strap knob on the back of the fretboard unscrews very easily (need to add a dab of glue)also my electronics system stopped working after about a year, but I called the alvarez dealer and they shipped a brand new factory preamp system free no questions asked. overall a great guitar without taking out a second morgage.

My friend got this guitar for his birthday and lets me play it. It is probably one of the best sounding acoustic guitars I have ever played. It has great action and the sound is very pure.

Graet guitar and value!

By Walt Lariscy

from Georgia

I bought the amber version, it is bueatiful. The first surprise was when I played it. its action was superb, light but crisp. the only thing was a slight buz on the first fret. this went away when I replaced the strings with elixer medium's. great sound acoustic or pluged in, If I had not payed for it I would have guessed a more expensive guitar. If yoou want a greta guitar and not break the bank this one is for you. I like it better than my Taylor.

Stage and Studio

By NS7181

I have used this guitar for almost 2 years now and I can only say it is worth every penny. I have played night after night on stage with this guitar as well as in the studio. The tuner is helpful. I am still amazed at how it stays in tune I play rythum sometimes I play it hard and the fingerstyle is sharpe and easy to play. I have several Taylor guitars which I wish I would have tried the Alveraz before I invested so much money in the taylor's. I now have 3 Alvarez guitars and like them all. I would tell anyone to get one and I promise you will not be sorry.

Great Bang For The Buck

I just recieved this guitar today and I am overall pleased with this guitar. I have the amber model of this guitar and it looks even better than I imagined. It has a nice clean sound that can compare to some higher priced guitars, and its thin neck and body makes it even more enjoyable to play. The only negative feedback I would have to say about this purchase is the string buzzing at the 14th fret, that and the MK11 would not work whatsoever. I had to take it appart and play around with the cables in order for it to get it to work on my amp. All in all- For the price, This guitar is great, no real complaints.

Buzz, Buzz, Buzz

By TonyTech

I was a bit disappointed when I received the guitar and tuned it up only to find that the strings buzzed wildly; particularly the D and G string at the first few fret positions. Fortunately, some loosening of the truss rod eliminated the buzz and allowed me to love this guitar. The finish is flawless and the guitar looks great with the gold tune keys. Additionally, it sounds surprising full despite being a thinner "fusion" guitar.

Don't turn your nose up at Alvarez

By austinguitargal

from Austin TX

I own the FD60 Amber. When I talk to others they are a little snobby when I mention I play an Alvarez. However, if they picked one up and played it, they would never put it down. First off - it has a beautiful and unique finish not seen as often as the others. Secondly, it sounds just as good unplugged as it does amped. The action is low and easy to play. The only reason I cannot rate it a 5 is that it does sound a little bassy when not amplified. The on board tuner is just ok - it gets the job done but sometimes what it says and what I think are 2 different things. If you've never played an Alvarez please go try this one.

Hello, I just bought this guitar and I abosolutely LOVE IT! It has an AMAZING sound that I never thought a thinline guitar could produce. I have the cherry sunburst finish and it is BEAUTIFUL. It has a nice low action for fast and easy play and a supwer warm tone. I have a Takamine EG523SC Jumbo also and this little guitar makes it sound like a tin can. It plays tons better than the Takamine also, and it's so wonderful how it is small, but has such a LARGE sound! I recommend this guitar to any musician from beginner to professional, you WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!
