OVERVIEW

The entry-level guitar. Redefined.

This stunning all-solid parlor is a classic-looking guitar offering superior tonal capabilities and a great player experience. The AA solid Sitka top and solid African mahogany back and sides produce great energy and projection to make this OM exciting and rewarding to play. Nothing can really match a guitar made from all-solid wood. The deflection of the notes is quicker, the quality of the sound is better, you can obtain optimal response and the sound of your guitar will improve as it ages.

The vintage sunburst finish is flawless, carefully crafted to produce a deep, glass-like shine. The guitar is also fitted with the Alvarez SYS250 3-Band EQ with backlit digital tuner.

Alvarez Guitars
After 50 years of making guitars, continual improvement through the use of emerging technologies, processes, and materials is still at the heart of Alvarez culture. Alvarez guitars are constructed correctly in every sense, from raw material preparation to construction and manufacturing processes. Their tonewoods are carefully cured; components such as neck blocks and wood joints are carefully designed. The painting, sanding and polishing techniques used are continually researched and developed, and their tone is impeccably crafted and married to a stable, consistent and lively sound box.

This caring approach to development comes from one simple goal: To deliver the best guitars in the market at every price point, instruments that are truly amazing value and offer a fantastic player experience.

Alvarez believes their Masterworks Series is the best value all-solid guitar line in the market today. Their specification is incredibly high in relation to their cost and they perform as all-solid professional guitars should, with fantastic response and projection.

The term “all solid” refers to the guitar top, back and sides being made of solid wood rather than laminated. However, just because the guitar is made of all-solid tonewood, it only performs to its full potential when it is designed to get the best out of its materials and components. All the tops used in Masterworks are very high quality, and Alvarez's luthiers can make them a little thinner to heighten vibration. The radius of both the top and back are also refined to help increase volume.

Each guitar is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together. These components include Alvarez's FST2 bracing system, bi-level rosewood bridge, real bone nut and saddle, carefully seasoned tonewood and a thin finish.

FST2 is a forward shifted X brace design. This means the axis of the X is closer to the sound hole, and therefore creates a larger soundboard area allowing for more energy and vibration to be harnessed. Both the X braces and asymmetric tone bars are carefully scalloped. The scalloping design was the result of years of continual development in their Yairi workshops.

Masterworks Series
The Masterworks personality is open and powerful. FST2 also creates very good balance so both the treble and bass registers are clearly present and balanced in relation to each other. All of their tops are selected by Alvarez's team and graded independently of their suppliers. If it isn't worthy, they won’t use it. Top quality in Masterworks is at least AA grade.

Along with a more angled headstock, Alvarez's bi-level bridge increases string tension by making the break angel of the strings from the saddle to the top more acute. Improved string tension adds to their sound, feel and response, which are also heightened by the use of real bone nuts and saddles.

Masterworks Series also demonstrates our great finishing capabilities; the gloss models have a clear, deep shine from a finish that is applied as thinly as possible, again to help optimize tone.

Comments about Alvarez MP610ESB Parlor Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is a great little guitar. I did not expect such a full sound from such a small footprint. The setup was good right out of the case. Low, easy action - no issues. It has a rich sound - I'm sure the solid woods make that difference. The built-in electronics are nice - I use the tuner every time I play, but it stays in tune well. I was going to get the Artist Series AP70 but decided to pay a little more for the solid back and sides and am pleased I did. No complaints with this guitar! A nice compliment to my Martin HD28.

            Follow-up to great potential

            By Scott

Comments about Alvarez MP610ESB Parlor Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

A follow-up to the first review I wrote...

I got this guitar back from my local luthier who did a pro setup. I thought the factory setup was not bad as far as action goes, but there was some buzzing. After getting the guitar back from the luthier I am even more impressed with the guitar. I don't even pretend to know how to set up a guitar, but he told me that he lowered the nut, slightly raised the saddle and adjusted the neck. There is no buzz anywhere and the action is even easier than it was from the factory.

Getting a pro setup was definitely worth the money.

At the price Musician's Friend is selling this guitar I don't see any way you can go wrong. The sound is balanced and it has a lot more volume than I ever would have expected from a guitar with this small of body.

Comments about Alvarez MP610ESB Parlor Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this on a "stupid deal of the day." Turns out Alvarez is discontinuing this model so MF is blowing them out. I am very pleased with the guitar, It sounds & plays beautifully. Right now the D string is buzzing, but in fairness it was that way straight out of the case, & I have not given it a chance to acclimate to its new environment. Even though the action is right where I want it, I will still take it to my local luthier for a good checkup. I do that with any guitar I order. When I buy from a shop I expect that their luthier has gone through the guitar. If the D string is still buzzing after it settles in, I expect the luthier will be able to take care of it.

This is part of the Masterworks series, which means it is made out of solid woods. Solid spruce top, solid mahogany sides and back, and a solid one-piece mahogany neck. There are scratches on one side of the neck heel that run cross-grain. This is one of the reasons I did not give it a perfect 5 star rating. That may sound picky, but with a little more care to detail the scratches should not be there. The headstock face is laminated with rosewood. The fretboard is rosewood and the frets are nicely dressed. The description says the bridge is ebony, but on this guitar it is actually rosewood.

It is a shame that Alvarez uses epoxy to glue their necks on, because if this ever needs a neck reset - it will be impossible to do. Yamaha and lots of other low-price guitar makers do the same thing. For what I paid for the guitar if the neck goes I won't have lost on a big investment. The way the guitar plays and sounds, it would certainly be worth having the neck reset if it needed it (and it were possible.)

This comes with a nice well-made 5-ply hardshell case wrapped with canvas & leather(ette) trim.

All in all I am very satisfied and impressed with the build quality, the sound & play-ability. This was an incredible buy.
