I'd heard that with Alvarez you get more than you pay for, and this guitar removes all doubt. It's a magnificent piece of work. The fit and finish of this precision instrument are nothing short of perfect. The quality control is astounding. This guitar is enough to give "Made in China" a very good name. If you didn't know you would think it must have been made in made by some of the best luthiers in Japan or Spain. The low, smooth action makes it very easy to play, and the tone is deep and rich, with no fret buzz whatsoever. I also tried a Takamine G320 after reading all the rave reviews. It's built like a tank but lacks the tone and refinement of this Alvarez. After I bought a black one for myself I was so impressed that I bought another one in sunburst for my son. I got two of these little beauties for less than the price of one decent guitar offered by other brands. This is as good as it gets.

The neck on these things are a nightmare. If you play your guitar in one place like your home then its fine, but if your like me and like to take your guitar everywhere then don't buy it. I had a cheapy washburn that I dropped countless numbers of times and had for many years and never once had a problem with the neck warping. I had the alvarez for 2 months before the neck started warping

Worth Every Bit For A Budding Or Seasoned Guitaris

By Janna Isabella

from New York, NY

I bought the Alvarez RD20S for my 25th birthday at a local music store, not knowing about the brand nor much about guitars. I didn't want to go with the typical Yamaha for beginners, and being that I am a vocalist, I wanted something that matched better in warmth and tone. When I first struck the chords on this Alvarez, I knew it would be perfect for me! Little did I know that I would not play on it often, most of the time kept in a case that I bought at the same time. What I was amazed was when 5 years after (and removed from case less than one handful times), even the store clerk was amazed how the guitar stayed in tune after all those years! I did get the strings replaced at the time to get a better sound and now, 11 years owning the guitar and especially being used more frequently in the recent months, the Alvarex RD20S Regent Series guitar is simply, AMAZING. Even seasoned guitarist are impressed with the tone and the versatility of the sound! Definitely worth the purchase!

A lot of bang for the buck

By nevertoooldtorock

from St. Louis

I think it's unfair to call this a beginners guitar. The tone is very nice; it has the trademark Alvarez projection and richness. It's especially impressive at the bass end. The action is good and with some tweeking could probably be very good. Nice looks, holds a tuning, easy to play, sound very nice. What more could you ask?

Awesome Guitar

Sometimes you just get lucky! I had decided to make another attempt at learning to play guitar after a memorable Memorial Day party at a friends house this year. I pulled the old Kay guitar out of the garage and took it to the local music store to get new strings. The guy at the store showed me that the bridge was pulling up and recommended that it should be fixed. I decided that rather than spend the money on a fix, I would just buy a new guitar. He showed me several and the RD20S was one of them. Not knowing a dang thing about guitars I picked the RD20S because it was about $20 cheaper than the others. It's a gorgeous guitar. The sound is great and it really has made learning fun. I would recommend this guitar to any serious beginner.

I recently bought a black RD-20S from a pawn shop. I was in the market for a travel guitar that sounded high quality, but was inexpensive. This guitar is wonderful sounding and the action is very light so that a beginner could play is with ease without hurting his/her hands. It stays in tune pretty good and although mine being a used one it had a few scratches...the finish is AMAZING. My only advice is get a BONE SADDLE...the plastic one doesn't get as good of tone as this guitar is capable of. If you are new to the guitar and in the market for a guitar to learn on or a good quality intrument for cheap, this is it. If you're like me and simply need a cheap road guitar to take camping, play on the back deck, or places like that, or that you could let your wife/girlfriend or kids play with too...this is a GREAT VALUE. .

Nice guitar !!

By Josh B-TEARw

I recently bought this guitar and I am very happy with the way it has performed. The quality of this guitar is good. The only problem with this guitar is that it is made in China. Other than that great guitar! For someone just starting out it is a good guitar.

Best guitar for the money ever!

By Superhart

from Atlanta, GA

I've owned many guitars in my time, but this one is the best of them all for the money. I gave up a Martin DM and use the RD20S for everything. Great sound, action, looks. Guitars costing 2 grand can't even compare to this one. Buy one, you will love it!

Alvarez Regent Series Axe

By No One Important

Good guitar, I bought it at a music store so I could try it out (very important to do because acoustic guitars are so diverse sometimes) and I bought it in the sunburst because I love color on my intruments. The sound is so good, real deep and glassy, but power chords are real punchy. The sound is also very clear. It's very beautiful up close except for some minor setbacks which were done to reduce the price. For instance, the "A" logo on the top is screened rather than inlayed, and the finish is very glossy, and the headstock even looks veneered in some spots, but this guitar is BEAUTIFUL. The mahogany has excellent figure, the sunburst finish is very well done, and the bridge is very attractive. The nut and the bridge nut are very cheap plastic and kind of take away from the vibe, but the guitar still looks and sounds great. The big drawback for me is the Made In China on the label inside the body. I wish it was made in North America, but oh well, it is a student model afetr all.Overall, you'll enjoy this guitar's deep sound and rustic look. A true Alvarez!

Good Quality Starter

By Todd-HTTrd

I got this guitar as a gift and I normally play electric guitars. I did enjoy the quality of the guitar and found it fairly easy to play and the tone of the guitar was amazing. I did replace the strings with a lighter string set that had a lower action as the ones that came on the guitar had a medium-high action which was a little harder to play Blues and Jazz. Over all this is an awesome guitar that stays in tune I think I have only had to tune it twice and that was because I went from standard tuning to drop D tuning. If you want a lot of clarity and deep bass then get this guitar.

Surprising

By fngrstyl

from Kentucky

I wish the term "beginner's guitar" could be banned from the lexicon of guitar description. I have played for over twenty years and I found this guitar to be quite a pleasant surprise. I was looking for a companion to my Alvarez PD 80 and, on a lark, picked-up this axe at my local store. The tone and playability turned out to be excellent! So much so that I went back to the store again and again to varify that I wasn't mistaken! Now, it is a rather plain guitar, the pearloid rosette and small-dot pos. markers being the only nod toward ornamentation. The mahogony on mine shows somewhat less of the striped figure shown in the pic and the Sitka spruce top had a mild amount of mineral streaking, but the rosewood, however on the bridge and fingerboard were of a rich, dark, almost ebony color and after a few minutes you begin to get its understated vibe. Set-up by the Alvarez shop was spot-on! Wonderful volume and sustain! A real pleasure both to play and listen to. Forget the name game! This is an axe worthy of consideration by any player.

Great Value

I've played many acoustics of the same price range and this is by far the best sounding, and best feeling guitar yet. If you're sick of plywood but don't want to spend an arm and a leg, this is the guitar for you.

I Love This Guitar!

By wolatinus

from Dallas, TX

I'm pretty much a self taught player and have been playing for over 20 years. Most of my acoustic playing was on a 1953 Gibson LG-1 inherited fom my Dad. In short, my Gibson's restoration was going to cost way more than I could buy a new guitar on my budget. I settled on the Alvarez RD20S in black because there were no bad things ever said about these. I received it and it is beautiful. Fit and finish are perfect. This thing screams of quality and really reminds me of my Gibson in that regard. The neck is smooth with nice fretboard and frets. The action is nicely medium low and easy to play. The tone is beautiful (brighter than my Gibson) and loud with good sustain. The Elixer strings are great. I've been playing this almost every day for 4 months and it holds its tune. I think the only reason it has needed tuning is because I occasionly bump the tuners into something. It is amazing that this kind or quality is available at such a great price! I really love this guitar and highly recommend it for any beginner or person like me who just likes to play a great sounding, beautiful, quality guitar at a very reasonable price.

Best guitar you can get for the price

By Jenny

When I first saw the RD20S, I wasn't a huge fan of the look, but after I played it I fell in love. I'm not saying that it's the same thing as playing a $1500 guitar by any means, but I played a high-end Martin before playing this guitar just to compare it to one of the best and let me tell you, I was impressed! The Alvarez sounded almost as good as the Martin. The only major differences were that the Martin had a slightly warmer tone and a little more volume. Nonetheless, the RD20S is an awesome guitar for a beginner or even a more experienced player on a budget. If you can get your hands on one take it on a test drive today and you'll see what I'm talking about!

Fell apart

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Maybe I'm tough on guitars, but this guitar didn't last long. Within two years, a large crack developed from the bridge to the bottom. The neck warped considerably as well, so now I have very high action near the nut and a ton of fret buzz at the other end. On the other hand, it was cheap, got me started playing acoustic and looked great. I would recommend that you get somebody to make sure it is setup correctly if you buy it.

This is my second guitar. Man I really lucked on on this guitar. I tried lots of different Acoustics bt none of the ones in my price range could match the sound of this one! It has a nice meaty low pich without the buzzing. Also the frets are closer together than most guitars so its a lot easier for a beginer to play. Plus the price won
