Comments about Alvarez Regent RD266CE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Hello I am the previous reviewer. I wanted to average my review to four stars because it is good for the money but a month later and I can safely say the weakest link is the nut it is terrible and should be replaced with a bone nut. I don't think it can be salvaged its so bad. Maybe by someone experienced but doesnt seem worth it to me, just replace with something better. The strings get positively stuck in their slots so bad I don't even think going down a gauge would help. Tuning the guitar is weird because of this and it has nothing to do with tuners. They're not the best tuners but they're stable, it's the nut. Just thought people should know. Haven't changed strings yet and that may help, who knows. But I'm still pretty sure they all have bad nuts. I have two of these guitars and they both have the same problem. Still plays pretty well out of the box for how cheap it is. I've also never bought a guitar without spending extra on setups, new strings, nut, bridge, etc. Its never just the cost of the guitar so I am still very happy with these instruments. For all I know, the strings could've been on there for months before I bought it and just changing them will be a huge improvement.

Comments about Alvarez Regent RD266CE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Worth the price, even not on sale. Definitely worth the price if it is on sale. MF doesn't like it when you mention numbers so thats all I can say, but this is one of the best sounding laminate acoustics I have ever played, and they are very consistent as well. I have the folk model (rf266) and this model (rd266c)and other than the different sound from different body sizes, they are virtually identical. The action is the same, nut is the same (slots are a little tight), and the finish looks very similar. I love them both. I will say that it may be a "laminate" thing, but these guitars are much louder with brand new strings on. Just got this dreadnaught and it sounds louder and fuller than the folk model, which I have been playing everyday for about a month now. Thats partly the dreadnaught size, partly the new strings. The folk model sounded louder and fuller when I first got it as well. It is not that noticeable however. I did a back to back or I wouldn't have noticed. The main difference is a flatter midrange sound better for finger picking on the folk model, whereas this dreadnaught has more bass and treble, less mid, and is better suited for strumming. So if you want a cheap guitar to play acoustic covers on open mic night this is an ideal choice for multiple reasons, one of them being that laminate guitars are more durable in changing climates, and of course, the price. And the pickup, which does feedback at high volumes, but that's nothing new. As with everything else about this guitar, for the money, the amplified sound is really good. And, fyi, if you wanted something to reduce feedback like a "phase" switch, you can upgrade the preamps in these guitars really easy if you wanted to. You wouldn't even have to change the strings. Notice I said preamp, not pickup...

Comments about Alvarez Regent RD266CE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Sounds as good as many much more expensive guitars I have played. The action is a little high but the intonation is dead on. I will have to do some adjusting to get a little lower action but overall a GREAT sounding and playing guitar. Chords and harmonics are dead on at all frets. Hard to find that in an inexpensive Acoustic. I LOVE the color , its the main reason I choose this guitar over other builders. I just switched out the strings to Extra Light 10-48 Dunlop Strings, I like lighter strings for the blues! Feels AWESOME now!!

Comments about Alvarez Regent RD266CE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I don't own this guitar. I borrowed one (the version without the cutaway or electronics) for the weekend of a music festival for jamming. I normally play higher end guitars - I own a Huss & Dalton and an all-solid-wood Recording King, but could not bring them to this festival. I was offered this "cheap beginner guitar" by a new friend at the festival, and I was astounded by the quality of the tone and feel. I was jamming with people playing Martins and other high-end guitars and didn't miss my more expensive guitars one bit. The tone is on the trebly side, very sparkly and sweet, not a huge bass response, which is probably a function of laminate construction, but I like it that way. It cut through jam sessions like a charm, and the projection and sustain were amazing. The feel was perfect - no buzzes, no dead notes, and very comfy. I can't stop thinking about this guitar even though I have too many dreadnoughts already, all more expensive than this one
