Comments about Alvarez Regent RP266 Parlor Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this sweet little parlor guitar as a Stupid Deal of the Day offering. I had wanted a parlor-sized guitar for awhile, but since I already am "guitar poor," I just could not justify another purchase. This one, however, was priced right and pretty, so I took a chance. I did not really expect a lot from it based on the price tag, but what I got was a really impressive surprise. This is really a sweet little box. Feels good. Looks good. Stays in tune. Sounds little (as it should) but has a good tone. And the pickup system cranks out nicely as well. I bought this guitar mostly for a travel and knock around instrument. However, I probably will find myself using it occasionally for playing songwriter rounds in small venues and perhaps even as a backup axe. For the price, I don't have any complaints. In fact, at this point, I can't say anything but good things about this one.

Comments about Alvarez Regent RP266 Parlor Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I said recently I'd never buy a guitar on line, that I hadn't actually played, and up to now though never had. I just did though. I was wanting a travel guitar, to take through all kinds of climates, and where cabin or car space is at a premium. Laminate construction was a requirement for this reason - no worries about cracks, and I wanted something that would fit in the airline overhead. I started playing some of the laminate guitars (plywood, if you will) in stores, but most just sounded like toys. I started to zero in on the Parlor guitar for it's size, and found this one on line here. With free shipping I figured it wouldn't cost me much to send it back. There was only one review at the time, but it sounded good. I was encouraged too by the fact that Alvarez also builds higher end guitars out of solid wood, so they know what they're doing. This is part of a line of beginner level guitars they say are designed to be good enough to keep new people interested while still being affordable. Check out their web site. Anyway, I decided to take a chance.

This little guitar is great! Not as much sound as my hand built acoustic of course, but it does sound like a real guitar, certainly a standout in this price range. Sounds good plugged in too, and having the built in tuner is always a plus, especially for travel. The neck is delightfully skinny, and the action is super nice to play, just as-is. It has quality tuners, unlike some budget axes. What I really like is the Parlor size. It fits in my lap just fine when I'm sitting in an arm chair. Mine didn't stay in tune well at first, as it seems the factory didn't do a great job of stringing it up that day, and with only two wraps on the E and B strings, it just slipped, so I put on my own favorites. Now it stays in tune! Everything on this is quality, and I'm very happy with my purchase. I look forward to many happy miles with this baby!

Comments about Alvarez Regent RP266 Parlor Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have played for over forty years and owned a dozen or so acoustic guitars. This Alvarez exceeds my expectations for tone and playing comfort, regardless of its price.
However, it is bigger than I expected for a "parlor" model. The lower bout is 14", upper bout : 10"", length 39", body: 4" thick. The scale is only 24". The neck is D shaped and about 1" thick and begins to widen at the 9th fret to the heel. I had to adjust to the thick neck, but the 1 3/4" nut and short scale allow for easy playability. An electric player would likely have more adjustments to make.
It arrived promptly and packaged well. The action was great out of the box. The factory strings are coated (EXP's). I can' t find any flaws in construction. The tuner works great. Nice to have the electronics, but I don't plan on plugging in soon.
I'm a finger-picker and the tone and responsiveness suit me fine. Most all of my strums, pinches, rolls etc., sound great. The sustain is quite long and adds possibilities for expression. Full 6-string chords, however, are not very satisfying on this guitar. It's loud, but not made for bashing out rhythm like jumbo or dread. Whatever they're doing with laminates and robotics at this price is amazing.
So, although I expected something smaller, it's a keeper.

Comments about Alvarez Regent RP266 Parlor Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'm a utilitarian rock/country/blues/jazz guitarist (whatever the gig calls for). As such, over the last few decades I've been attracted niche guitars, for different applications for quite some time now. I also worked for several years for a major guitar manufacturer and one of our core products was the parlor size guitar, so I've always been a fan. This one caught my eye and I figured there was more than the cost of it in parts, had to check it out. I can't say enough. First off, I expect, when getting an Instrument form MF, I may have to do some minor set up, re-stringing, tightening adjusting etc. (no big deal considering the price savings, and the two major chains hang 'em on the wall the same way as far as I can tell). Not this time, the D'Addario strings, action, tuners, all up to snuff right out of the box. Also the electronics/tuner is a BBand system, and with a little tweaking sounds good thru the P.A., should work passably well for home recording as well (adding a mic pointed at the bridge in conjunction with the preamp should be stellar). It's also very pretty in a kistchy-Harmony/Silvertone way.I took it to a rehearsal of my fave local band (The Belvederes-rootsy pop-out of Chi) and both guitarists dug it so deeply I left it there. So, come Friday (payday) if the price holds I'm buying a SECOND one. if that's not a recommendation I don't know what is.
