I have been playing bass for ten years and this summer I had to learn how to play acoustic to lead worship on a missions trip that I was on. I didn't really know what I was doing when it came to purchasing acoustics. I went to the guitar shops here in Tucson and began playing on as many guitars as I could. And nothing really fit. A friend told me about the AA21 and had nothing but good things to say about it. I tried my hardest to find one in town that I could play but none of the stores had any in stock. As my trip quickly drew nearer I decided to go out on a limb and pick this one up online. I was not disappointed in the least. The action came low and ready to play, and the D'addario strings sounded wonderful. It has been an awesome instrument to learn on. She looks great and sounds even better. If I were to do it all over I would definitely choose this one again.
Nice low actionBeautiful D'iaddario stringsComposite back projects the sound wonderfully
I couldn't find anything wrong with the quality of this axe. This guitar is everything it claims to be. Nothing more, nothing less.
I couldn't ask for anything more for the price. As a starting guitar it blew me out of the water.

I have owned my applause for many years. The build quality is not bad but the sound is where it faulters. It just doesn't sound good. A very dead sound, nothing like an Ovation. I bought it because it was cheap and I could plug and play if I wanted to. This too is not one if it's highlights. The sound from the pickup is extreemly tinny and nothing like a clean acoustic sound. I would sooner buy a body pickup than use the onboard one. My friend bought an Ibanez acoustice for a few bucks more and it's twice the guitar the applause is. Bottom line....be sure to play one before you buy and compare it with others in it's price range. You'll be better off.

Comments about Applause AA21 Acoustic Guitar:
I was looking for something I could leave at my lake house and not worry about. This fits the bill and exceeds the tone quality I thought I would get for the price. I immediately changed the strings when it arrived and it sounds wonderful.
Comments about Applause AA21 Acoustic Guitar:
I purchased an applause AE14-1 back in 1979 and have been impressed with it ever since. The frets are wearing so I thought I'd replace it with a similar model the AA21.
As for the sound the projectivity that ovation is known for there is no comparison between the two.
The AE14-1 sounds like a quality guitar and the AA21 sounds like a guitar played inside a tin can.
The AA21 looks good and plays well but the sound just isn't there. I tried them both together and the AE14-1 completely overpowers the AA21.
Maybe that's what happens when you stop making guitars in Moosup Connecticut and start making them in Indonesia.

Comments about Applause AA21 Acoustic Guitar:
This is a very nice guitar, I love it and am glad to have purchased it. It projects very loud, has nice action and feels nice.
Well it's just a plain acoustic, no tuner or plug in, so not much on features.
I wanted an acoustic that was big bodied and projected nice and loud. This fufilled that need and was exactly what I wanted. I also really wanted nice action on it, that was a main need, Once again it met what I wanted. The finish was very shinny and nice (I got natural but have played the black finish as well). The neck wood is nice in that you can slide up and down it good. A little draw back to it is that by the uner keys on the side of the headstock, it looks like some of the poly dripped or something. I'm not sure if I did that or not, but it was the only flaw and it is very minor.
I had some pretty high standards set, and thinking back on it I'm suprised a guitar in this price range met them. I really like the Ovation and play it all the time.
Comments about Applause AA21 Acoustic Guitar:
This is a solid guitar that is impressive in its price range. The deep bowl may feel awkward at first but its easy to get used too. I am definitely a proud owner of the guitar.
The round back design is great. The tuners are right from the more expensive Ovation guitars. Frett board is really nice and it feels great in the hands. It has a nice weight to it.
It looks amazing. It has a nice feeling in the hands. It doesn't feel like it was made with low quality plastic.
Great buy for the money. Good if you're on a budget but want a quality piece.
Comments about Applause AA21 Acoustic Guitar:
I have owned two of these guitars. I had one about nine years ago that played all the time. It was broken purposely by an angry sibling. I have had a couple of other acoustics since then. When I saw that Musician's Friend had this guitar for $149.99 with free shipping, I had to get it again. This guitar, with the right set of strings and a little TLC can sound amazing. Take it from me. I have owned two of them. Only difference from then and now is the soundhole rosette design. Still the same great playing, great sounding guitar for the player on a budget!
Comments about Applause AA21 Acoustic Guitar:
I've had this guitar for about a year now, and you can not find a better guitar in it price range. This guitar is on par with even some more expensive models. The other thing to note, is Ovation, is a great company to deal with. I play out with this guitar all of the time. I do not know of the other review was talking about, that this guitar sound like a toy... no way.. far from it!
Comments about Applause AA21 Acoustic Guitar:
Straight out of the box it was/is exactly what I wanted: A durable full-scale instrument that stays in tune. I wasn't about to go over it with a magnifying glass and inspection mirror, nothing to nit-pick about. I have played various Ovations and Applause models in music stores and even owned a 3/4 Trekker, so I knew what I was getting before it even arrived. It's not a Martin D-28 or a Washburn D-10 even. It's purpose-built to be a durable camp/beach, grab-gig-bag-and-go instrument that has acceptable low-end response. Quality is so good that I may acquire other Applause models in the future; 12-string, bass, and shallow-bowl w/cutaway being of primary interest.
Comments about Applause AA21 Acoustic Guitar:
This is such a great guitar for the price! I bought the black one.. very nice sound. The stings on it are made by D'Addario's and are light gauge. I'm going to try some medium gauge stings on it. If I had the money.. I would be like 2 more of these.. that is how great the sound and playability is.
Comments about Applause AA21 Acoustic Guitar:
Excellent value for the asking price. You "must" change the strings in order to really hear the tone of this guitar shine. I replaced the stings with Martin FX 12-54 Lights and adjustetd the action a little bit. I wanted a guitar I did not have to worry about and hang on the wall, take to beach, camping, etc - my Martin & Taylor can be safely in their cases. Nice guitar to noodle with in DADGAD tuning. Deep bowls gives you a great balanced tone. Get one and you'll see.
