A cool guitar with a one-of-a-kind style, rocking tones, and excellent playability.

The Badwater Eldorado Electric Guitar has a light-weight single-cutaway alder body, bolt-on maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard. The Eldorado has a comfortable "C" neck profile. A string-thru-body design adds tone and sustain. This unusual guitar is equipped with EMG-designed pickups for hard rocking tones and clean delivery. All hardware is antiqued and anodized including in-line mini tuners, master volume and tone controls, and a six-saddle bridge.

With a distressed body and antiqued hardware, AXL Badwater Series guitars look and feel of ancient artifacts. Even the headstock and backplate have vintage distressing. No area was spared from the destruction. The Badwater Series has received Guitar World's December 2007 Gold Award for Overall Value.

The crackle brown/white finish has a reptilian texture throughout its body. The off-white finish has a rusted, phantom-like appearance. The brown finish model has the look of a museum-quality guitar stored away for decades. The crackle blue finish looks like it was pulled deep from the ocean floor. The crackle black finish evokes the texture of a guitar blackened and burned by lightning. Case sold separately.

Comments about Axl Badwater Eldorado Electric Guitar:

One of the other reviews mentioned that this guitar was not good for drop D alternate tuning. That's actually how my AXL Eldorado works best. I'm changing the strings yet again today. I want to love this guitar but I can't because it does not stay in tune. You are lucky to get thru one song playing this, so it's definitely not good for playing out. That's too bad because it looks great and feels great. The action is good. I think the problem is with the tuning machines themselves. I was considering going to my luthier to replace the bridge, nut and tuners but the cost of doing that to get a playable instrument is a little strange. Plus that would kill the looks of this instrument. I will probably end up hanging this on the wall for a decoration. I think AXL should have invested in better quality parts and asked a little more for the guitar. Then they'd have a winner!

    Not worth it

Comments about Axl Badwater Eldorado Electric Guitar:

I have had this guitar for a few months. yes the guitar looks cool and the pickupsdon't sound that bad but thats where it all ends. The guitar won't stay in tune. The keys keep slipping. I adjusted the truss rod to adjust string hieght. After the sdjustment I had to adjust the bridge. the hex head screws for adjustment are cheap. during adjustment with useing the proper allen wrench a few of the heads rounded out. When setting the intonation it doesn't stay set. The nut needs to either be filed or another put in its place. it isn't grooved properly. but the time you do all this work and it still won't stay in tune you would be better off buying a Squier at the same price. I am a Fender tele player and thought this would be cool to have. I was wrong. Spend the extra money and get you a Mexi tele or if you want to to stay on a low budget buy a Squier tele.

    Feels like an old glove

Comments about Axl Badwater Eldorado Electric Guitar:

Picked up one of these and fell in love with it. Just felt great in the hand. The neck seems to have a really worn feel even though it is almost new. The tone control has a great range and can make this very flexible. Great buy at the price and great looks. Not afraid if it gets dinged. Found an old beat up case to go with the look. Does not feel cheap solid parts not just aged.

    Needs a tweek or two

Comments about Axl Badwater Eldorado Electric Guitar:

This is certainly one of the best VALUES you can get.I had to lift the action and adjust the intonation at the bridge, but that's to be expected if your retailer doesn't do a set up. That being done, it's a fine guitar. The ends of the frets aren't the smoothest, but they aren't any kind of problem. You just notice it when inspecting, not playing, the guitar.

Interesting looking but needs set-up work

    By Bones

Comments about Axl Badwater Eldorado Electric Guitar:

I bought this because I liked the distressed look and wanted something to bang around and not worry about. It's really rustic looking - like it was left hanging on a barn wall for years. The off-white has a lot of streaks and fake dings on the front/back. It came with the action so high I had to use the supplied wrenches to adjust the truss rod and lower the bridge. THen I had to use some nut files (that I just happen to have) to increase the nut slots because the strings were way too high at the nut. Finally I had to tweak the intonation at the bridge a bit since all these other tweaks to get the action lower make the intonation change from what it was at the factory. Other than having to do that I had to add a screw in the bridge pickup (middle of the Pup has a screw hole - but mine had no screw) because the pup was slanting instead of straight up/down. I'm not sure if there was supposed to be a screw but there should be one so I added a thin black one that was from an old humbucker mounting ring I had laying around. This guy needed lots of tweaks to get it playable so I lowered it's quality. For the money though it's a reasonable deal if you don't mind tweaking and setting it up. Also, I took some keys and an old pocket knife and dinged it up more on the top and sides and back (just drop the keys and the folded knife randomly on top and back) and banged up the sides a bit more. Now it looks more distressed than it came. I'm happy with the deal I got but many people won't want to mess with the hassle to get it to play reasonably. If you don't mind doing your own setup work or know someone who can do it for you this is a good deal. Plus it looks real funky.

Beautiful but leaves something to be wanted.

Comments about Axl Badwater Eldorado Electric Guitar:

The Axl Badwater Eldorado Electric Guitar is absolutly worth buying if you are new to guitars or already have a hundred guitars. If you are new, this is a great guitar to learn on. If you are an exsperienced guitarist it will only be worth it if you already have a solid guitar. It is beautiful but i personally could not play it more than 20 minute before i quickly became disapointed and went back to my relativly inexspensive Ibanez RG5EX1(great buy). Buy this guitar if you want some pretty furniture or a cheap guitar to learn but if you want a functional musical instrument look else where. In review perfect for collecting or learning but if you want something quality look else where. Have a nice day and buy this guitar if it is appropriate. (quick note: This guitar probably needs to stay in standard tuning. This guitar is worthless in drop D.)
