A cool guitar with a one-of-a-kind style, rocking tones, and excellent playability.

The AXL Badwater SRO Electric Guitar has a light-weight double-cutaway alder body, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard. The guitar's deep recessed neck joint offers superior access to the upper register. This unusual AXL guitar is equipped with EMG-designed pickups for hard rocking tones and clean delivery. An anodized tremolo invites your dive-bombing pleasure.

With a distressed body and antiqued hardware, AXL Badwater Series guitars have the look and feel of ancient artifacts. Even the headstock and backplate have vintage distressing. No area was spared the treatment. The Badwater Series has received Guitar World's December 2007 Gold Award for overall value.

The crackle brown and white body finish has a reptilian texture throughout. The off-white finish has a rusted, phantom-like appearance. The brown finish AXL guitar has the look of a museum-quality guitar stored away for decades. The crackle blue finish looks like it was pulled from deep on the ocean floor. The crackle black finish evokes the texture of a guitar blackened and burned by lightning.

Guitars like this keep me from saving up for more expensive guitars. I can't resist the look, and I can put up with the weak points. Yeah, the tuners are total crap and the nut is a shade too high; which means tuning is always suspect and intonation is tricky...you have to compensate on the flat side when tuning the B and G strings, or they'll play a bit sharp on the lower frets. Some lowering or replacement of the nut may be in order, but for now I'm cool with it. You'l have to add a spring to the trem, and you'll have to string it with 10's. But with that done, you've got a serviceable, giggable guitar that gets deep into the strat vibe, lots of midrange and spank in the pickups... and the neck is an absolute joy to the eyes and the fingers. No fret issues as others below have noted.Thinking of buying another...I have the white model, and trying to decide between the brown and the blue...hope this helps.

I've had this guitar for a while. The guitar is, quite simply, one of the worst guitars I've ever owned. The build quality is horrible. The neck has multiple frets that are popped up on the ends, the fret ends are sharp, and there are actually some dings and gouges in the frets themselves. The edges of the plate that goes around the output jack were sticking out quite a bit and the plate wasn't properly screwed down, so I had to screw it down so it wouldn't catch on everything. The string action was the highest of any guitar I've ever bought, as in, unplayabley high. This can be fixed with a fret job, truss rod adjustment, further saddle adjustment, and shimming the neck, but it's disappointing it came like this.Further, the metal of the saddle height adjustment screws bends easily and don't work well. This guitar isn't worth your time and money.

    Little Rocker

Comments about Axl Badwater SRO Electric Guitar:

Just got one of these little gems. Boy was I supprised. These sound great! The weight and the neck are fantastic. The Pickups are what you would expect from EMG. Hot and heavy! The finish is alright, the pickguard is painted which will eventually flake off. The tuners are alright, for now. Just a lot of fun and a great beater guitar. Might even be a backup guitar?

    Awesome guitar!

    By Wunderwhirl

Comments about Axl Badwater SRO Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar from a local shop about two years ago. It was reasonably priced and looked great (crackle blue). But upon getting it home and giving it the ole run through I feel in love with it. Especially its neck! One of the smoothest fastest necks I've played. The tone from this baby is impressive! Almost any position you click the 5 way has something rich to offer! I play with it distorted, clean, effects, you name it and it sounds great. Never have had a problem with its realiability, and have gigged with it many of times. This AXL company is really making some quality products here, I just can't believe they're doing it so cheaply.

Not bad, but not as pictured

    By Johny B.

Comments about Axl Badwater SRO Electric Guitar:

This guitar isn't bad at all for the price, and it looks cool, but the guitar I receieved had a brown pickguard (same color as the head stock) not a white one as in the pictures. Doesn't look half as good w/ the brown pickguard. Beware.

I got it cheap, and it sounds great. Sounds like a strat, plays very well. The crackle brown finish is stunning.

    Great Guitar

    By arnie

    from Mississippi

Comments about Axl Badwater SRO Electric Guitar:

I have owned this A.X.L. for over a year now. It is the crackle brown finished one. I played 7 different ones at my local dealer before deciding on this one. The neck is incredible on this guitar and the action is super low and buzz free. With some nut lube and a good tremolo adjustment (extra spring installed) it stays in tune really well, must better then my mexican strat. The humbucker sounds great and it has a good volume pot. The tone pots don't really do much. I removed the lower one and installed a kill switch. Every guitarist that plays this guitar is surpised by the neck and the action. It also has the coolest vibe surrounding it. It is very liberating to not have to worry about scratching it up or polishing it. I don't know what the differnce is with the 6 that I have played on and the one that I currently own, but this is the best sub 300 dollar guitar that I have played. I would recommend that they get the guitar properly set up before making a judgement.
