OVERVIEW

A cool guitar with a one-of-a-kind style, rocking tones, and excellent playability.

The AXL Badwater SRO Electric Guitar has a light-weight double-cutaway alder body, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard. The guitar's deep recessed neck joint offers superior access to the upper register. This unusual AXL guitar is equipped with EMG-designed pickups for hard rocking tones and clean delivery. An anodized tremolo invites your dive-bombing pleasure.

With a distressed body and antiqued hardware, AXL Badwater Series guitars have the look and feel of ancient artifacts. Even the headstock and backplate have vintage distressing. No area was spared the treatment. The Badwater Series has received Guitar World's December 2007 Gold Award for overall value.

The crackle brown and white body finish has a reptilian texture throughout. The off-white finish has a rusted, phantom-like appearance. The brown finish AXL guitar has the look of a museum-quality guitar stored away for decades. The crackle blue finish looks like it was pulled from deep on the ocean floor. The crackle black finish evokes the texture of a guitar blackened and burned by lightning. Case sold separately.

I got this guitar 4 years ago, it was my first guitar, and I still use it quite often. It works pretty well, especially for the price. The only problems I have with it are that when tuning the b string the tuner does not start tuning the string until it's moved quite a bit, making it slightly more difficult. The pick guard is sticking up in several places, although this can be fixed by simply re-screwing it. there is some wear on the guitar from playing, and when the paint starts to chip off it makes it a light blue instead of a dark. It is a very interesting and good looking guitar. And I feel I will still use this for a long time.

I've had this guitar for a while. The guitar is, quite simply, one of the worst guitars I've ever owned. The build quality is horrible. The neck has multiple frets that are popped up on the ends, the fret ends are sharp, and there are actually some dings and gouges in the frets themselves. The edges of the plate that goes around the output jack were sticking out quite a bit and the plate wasn't properly screwed down, so I had to screw it down so it wouldn't catch on everything. The string action was the highest of any guitar I've ever bought, as in, unplayabley high. This can be fixed with a fret job, truss rod adjustment, further saddle adjustment, and shimming the neck, but it's disappointing it came like this.Further, the metal of the saddle height adjustment screws bends easily and don't work well. This guitar isn't worth your time and money.

value and vibe.

Comments about Axl Badwater SRO Electric Guitar:

Guitars like this keep me from saving up for more expensive guitars. I can't resist the look, and I can put up with the weak points. Yeah, the tuners are total crap and the nut is a shade too high; which means tuning is always suspect and intonation is tricky...you have to compensate on the flat side when tuning the B and G strings, or they'll play a bit sharp on the lower frets. Some lowering or replacement of the nut may be in order, but for now I'm cool with it. You'l have to add a spring to the trem, and you'll have to string it with 10's. But with that done, you've got a serviceable, giggable guitar that gets deep into the strat vibe, lots of midrange and spank in the pickups... and the neck is an absolute joy to the eyes and the fingers. No fret issues as others below have noted.Thinking of buying another...I have the white model, and trying to decide between the brown and the blue...hope this helps.

Comments about Axl Badwater SRO Electric Guitar:

Just got one of these little gems. Boy was I supprised. These sound great! The weight and the neck are fantastic. The Pickups are what you would expect from EMG. Hot and heavy! The finish is alright, the pickguard is painted which will eventually flake off. The tuners are alright, for now. Just a lot of fun and a great beater guitar. Might even be a backup guitar?

Comments about Axl Badwater SRO Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar from a local shop about two years ago. It was reasonably priced and looked great (crackle blue). But upon getting it home and giving it the ole run through I feel in love with it. Especially its neck! One of the smoothest fastest necks I've played. The tone from this baby is impressive! Almost any position you click the 5 way has something rich to offer! I play with it distorted, clean, effects, you name it and it sounds great. Never have had a problem with its realiability, and have gigged with it many of times. This AXL company is really making some quality products here, I just can't believe they're doing it so cheaply.

Great Guitar

Comments about Axl Badwater SRO Electric Guitar:

I have owned this A.X.L. for over a year now. It is the crackle brown finished one. I played 7 different ones at my local dealer before deciding on this one. The neck is incredible on this guitar and the action is super low and buzz free. With some nut lube and a good tremolo adjustment (extra spring installed) it stays in tune really well, must better then my mexican strat. The humbucker sounds great and it has a good volume pot. The tone pots don't really do much. I removed the lower one and installed a kill switch. Every guitarist that plays this guitar is surpised by the neck and the action. It also has the coolest vibe surrounding it. It is very liberating to not have to worry about scratching it up or polishing it. I don't know what the differnce is with the 6 that I have played on and the one that I currently own, but this is the best sub 300 dollar guitar that I have played. I would recommend that they get the guitar properly set up before making a judgement.

Comments about Axl Badwater SRO Electric Guitar:

Looking at the price range I was expecting a cheap piece of rubbish, but when it got to my home I was completely blown away!1.I bought off- white and the finish is wonderful, it's a little darker then the picture.2.The neck is very easy to play on, great for soloing.3.The hard ware is just great, the emg designed pick ups sound great for rock, metal, and blues. The machine heads stay in tune very well, even with all your crazy whammy bar dives and such.If you want a great metal guitar with a whammy bar for a cheap price, this is your guitar!

This guitar isn't bad at all for the price, and it looks cool, but the guitar I receieved had a brown pickguard (same color as the head stock) not a white one as in the pictures. Doesn't look half as good w/ the brown pickguard. Beware.

This is a great guitar! I just played it the last 2 weeks and love the sound and playability. Of course I had to set her up how I like. I am a Fender guy but will be having fun with this axe for awhile. The look is great, I got the off white and have nothing but compliments on its unique look.

King o't'desert floor

By Pete B.

from Meadville, PA

Comments about Axl Badwater SRO Electric Guitar:

Having had this guitar for about 4 months, I would say that I am rather satisfied with it. It is my second electric (I used it to upgrade from an unknown Noteworthy) and it looks and sounds great. The only problem I had upon arrival was a crackly volume pot that quickly sorted itself out. I also raised the two coils and lowered the humbucker slightly so as to achieve greater volume parity. Like I said, it sounds and plays very very nicely. The only sore spots are the miserable tuners. Working up, by the time you've finished tuning the B and the high E, the lower strings have gone out of tune again. I can never seem to make the bottom two strings sync up. One tuning peg sticks like mad and another needs an entire turn to change the pitch even slightly. Oh, they're terrible. But the guitar is awesome and I'm not much a stickler for tuning, anyway. I'd buy it again.

Comments about Axl Badwater SRO Electric Guitar:

I'm very happy with this purchase. It was a bit of a purchase of passion because I fell for the looks thinking that I could just mod it to my own liking. But now that I have it, I don't think I'll be changing anything. I was very impressed by the pickups... I was expecting something pretty low end, but they are very responsive to my picking style and have 3 notably different voicings which makings it a very dynamic guitar to play. It's lighter than my American Fender Strat but holds it's own in comparison. As stock, better than my PRS SE.

The only negatives that I can find is that it wasn't professionally set up so there is some fret buzz that is a little annoying. Although after a few adjustments it's not really a big deal. Also, there was a hair painted onto the body... isn't really noticeable unless you're really looking for it. Overall though, I'm very satisfied.

Comments about Axl Badwater SRO Electric Guitar:

Looks great, not a bad build, doesn't feel cheap.

Holds tune for a while, pretty dicey here, it will hold tune for some time..but if you're a stretcher like I am..watch out..it will go out pretty fast.

The tuners BITE, they do the job though, and are smooth, but the the plastic nut..man..oh man..its awful..can here the ting ting ting with ever twist of the tuner.

Once in tune, it holds well for while..like i said..just watch when you stretch...it'll go for sure.

Highs are very nice on this guitar...lows are muddy

    The neck is a dream.

I do not think I will do anything to this guitar..wont put money in to it. I like the look..and its a great beater guitar..if you need something to practice on...maybe even take to practice..then this fits the bill.

I wouldn't hessitate as to bring it as a backup also..its good enough for a couple tunes live.

    Well worth the money spent.

Comments about Axl Badwater SRO Electric Guitar:

i bought this guitar in the white finish for one reason. It looked cool and it does look cool but i always finding myself picking up my older guitars. I ended up loving the emgs on this guitar so much that i put the bidge pickup in my ibanez. my axl always goes out of tune within 15 minutes of playing and the guitar feels like its going to fall apart when i play it. i wouldn't recomend this guitar to someone who is a serious player. I would however buy this guitar again just for the pickups
