Axl

An unbeatable combination of world-class components including AXL alnico pickups.

The American Badwater SRO is the Axl version of a true American classic. AXL Alnico pickups offer 5-way switching. CTS pots are connected by cloth-covered wire, and Orange Drop capacitors give a creamy, classic tone. A true-vintage-style bent-saddle bridge has the proper weight and sound just like the instruments from the 1950s. Every fret is hand pressed with some of the highest quality fretwire available; then leveled and dressed for flawless playing in any register. Combine all of those parts with a solid alder body and maple neck with a rosewood fretboard, a GraphTech Tusq nut, Grover mini-Rotomatic tuners and a finish unlike any other available for a distictive tone platform. Case sold separately.

Comments about Axl USA SRO Electric Guitar:

Although a novice, I shop carefully with many years of hanging with more experienced musician friends and checking out vintage and higher end instruments. This guitar is exactly as advertised. Quality all the way around. Very, very solid. I looked at most of the major brands, and could not find an instrument I liked in the 200-500 range This one is really head and shoulders above in quality. My expectations were exceeded in components, construction, and overall sound.

Comments about Axl USA SRO Electric Guitar:

I received this guitar and first off, it looks nothing like the picture. The guitar is simply white and the pick guard is also white. It looks cheap, feels cheap and the one I received is completely unplayable. I broke both E strings trying to tune it and that never happens. Fact is I couldn't tune it because all of the strings buzzed so bad I couldn't get a tone. Also I plugged it into my amp and any movement at all caused it to lose sound and start popping and crackling. This is nowhere the quality of of Squier strat that cost much less. After reading the reviews here I was excited and expecting much more than I received. I'm not even sure it's the guitar I ordered, honestly. I'm having to return it because it is completely unplayable. I took it to my luthier just to have him look at it and he said it would cost more than the price of the guitar itself to get it working properly. I'm very disappointed as I was expecting so much more. Personally this seems more like a child's toy rather than a guitar at this price. I know to a lot of people this isn't much to pay for a guitar, but I would at least expect it to be playable. Maybe I'm the exception and just got a lemon, but I don't plan on exchanging it for another.

Comments about Axl USA SRO Electric Guitar:

Strats are hard to play well, and if you don't play them well, they sound very bad! Long scales make it tough on guys with small hands like me. Everybody has one...or two...or three. Heck I've got three myself. So, why did I buy this Axl? I dunno, I'd read several reviews; I wanted a cheap knock-around super-strat type that I could get Strat type sounds out of, and the three I already have just didn't make me grin when I played them.

This one makes me grin from ear to ear. Firstly, very nice neck with properly dressed frets. Easiest playing 25.5" neck I've ever seen. Secondly, the stock pick-ups are really, really good. Smooth blues, crunchy rock, and even that Strat "quack" that is so hard to describe, but you know it when you hear it. The pups are also very quiet for single coils. Axl has put the good stuff in it: pups, electronics, tuners, frets--it's all good, beating the heck out of every Mexi-Strat I've ever played. Thirdly, the finish looks and feels more like a traditional lacquer-based paint than a polyurethane.

Yeah, I bought a cheap beater, but I actually received a professional-grade instrument. Did I mention I love Strats?

Comments about Axl USA SRO Electric Guitar:

If you are doubting this guitar because its not a "brand name" I'm telling you right now not to worry at all. Let the gear snobs be snobs. This plays better than almost any MIM Strat I've ever played. The electronics are wired with the precision of guitars that cost literally ten times as much. Do yourself a favor and play this thing. The pickups are alnico and hand wound in Cali. Words cannot describe how well fretted this instrument is. Get it.

            My new AXL guitar

            By ERIC HELLER

            from N.Y.C., & so. Utah

Comments about Axl USA SRO Electric Guitar:

I love the "beat-up-distressed" look of the body, and that is something I wanted. The neck, and the way this axe plays, well, it's perfect! With a little tung oil on the neck, it will out do many guitars I have costing $800-$1200 more. These guys are good. The only thing that I 'm not in love with, is the head stock. It's kind of different looking, but will grow on me I guess. Down the road, I will fit it with a "Blade-Runner" bridge. But for now, I'm already recording with it and it feels great!
This guitar has all the goods!
The neck is out of this world, even better from what I was expecting. Very, very good workmanship!
O.K., I was looking for a great guitar at the right price. The price was better than right. The guitar beats some other "same-style" guitars by 100%, How do they do this? Better yet, don't tell me!

            Very Happy Customer

            By Jody Simkins

            from Oregon

Comments about Axl USA SRO Electric Guitar:

I am blown away at the value and workmanship, but the real kicker is that I immediately bonded with this guitar. I own seven other electrics and this has jumped to the top of my list.
Has everything you would need in a strat. 5 position switch. Grover Tuners. Sprague Orange Drop Caps. CTS Pots. Alnico Pickups.
Can't find a single flaw. Neck seam is tight. The neck is smooth. Almost feels like bare wood. The fret work is top notch. The pickups are quite musical.
Won't find a better guitar for the money. A really fantastic value.
