    Mockingbird Special

    By The guitar guy

Comments about B.C. Rich Mockingbird Special Electric Guitar:

I was deciding on buying a Gibson 60's tribute or this guitar. This guitar has better quality parts and materials and was cheaper, got a special price through musician s friend. The guitar came set up perfectly and intonation spot on. I own several brand name guitars, Fender USA, Gibson USA, and this guitar is right up there with them. I may install a bone nut because I like the open string tone of bone but other than that, no other mods needed. The pickups are great for my classic rock sound. Just love this guitar and recommend getting this!
Very good. Love the neck-through design for grest sustain.
got a great deal. thanks MF

    INCREDIBLE. Buy it. NOW!

Comments about B.C. Rich Mockingbird Special Electric Guitar:

Purchased this one on Ebay. I've been a fan of B.C. Rich Guitars for 15 years, and have owned about 6 of them, still own 3, including this one. Recieved the guitar and plugged it into my Roland Micro Cube and....wow. Almost in perfect tune right out of the box. Great feel, neck is a little chunky but not so much that shredding is difficult. Intonation was VERY close, just a tiny hair off on the D and G strings. Ebony fretboard is buttery smooth. Pickups were a little muddy, but I'll get to that later. Hardware and finish quality are top notch, a couple of small flaws in the binding but VERY good for a chinese made axe. Neck to body contour is very well done (Yes, this is a neck-through guitar, and a very well built one at that).Okay, took off the cheap factory strings, lowered the bridge (Tonepros locking bridge and tailpiece!!!). I took the pickup covers off, on a hunch, and put on a set of Dunlop Nickel Wound 10-46's. Fine-tuned intonation. Put everything back together, locked the bridge and tailpiece, and......INCREDIBLE sound. Amazing for a guitar at this price point. The pickup covers are responsible for 99% of the muddiness in the pickups. GET RID OF THEM!!! You'll thank yourself. I bought this guitar planning to do a pickup swap, but now NO WAY. These babies can really scream, but turn down the volume and tone and they can get so, so warm and soft. Tight lows. Screaming highs. Pinch harmonics are easy. Articulation and Tone are TOP NOTCH! Factory setup and fretwork was almost perfect, good enough to get the action VERY low (the way I like it) using standard gauge strings with almost no fret buzz.My only complaint is the factory pots. They're a little gritty and have some static when turning. I plan to wire up a coil tap for the neck pickup with some higher-grade pots and a switchcraft switch and output jack. With those small mods, this baby will be ALMOST perfect! Right now I can't decide which sounds better, this one or my Gibson Les Paul Studio Silverburst (an axe that cost almost 4 times as much as I paid for this one). Buy it. NOW!!!! You won't regret it!

    A few more things

Comments about B.C. Rich Mockingbird Special Electric Guitar:

So I have owned this guitar for over two years now and am even more pleased with it that I was when I posted my previous review. At first the tone seemed a little dull; however, after some new pots and high quality caps, this thing is a tone machine. The only problem I can report is that it is a little neck heavy, but after two years of playing, supporting it feels as natural as breathing. The pickups create a very warm tone yet can scream if pushed. I also put some ceramic magnet pups in it for a while and this thing got mean. This is am amazingly versatile guitar with superb craftsmanship. If you need a guitar that can do anything from vintage clean to heavy rock, this is the one for you.

    Indestructable

Comments about B.C. Rich Mockingbird Special Electric Guitar:

As an addendum to my last post, I thought I would add a positive experience with my new Mockingbird. Last weekend at a gig in TX the Mockingbird fell from the stand right off the stage, a good 4 feet, with an 8 foot ladder following it. It received only a few tiny dings and played perfectly the following night. My Gibson Explorer isn't that tough!

Much more guitar than I paid for!

Comments about B.C. Rich Mockingbird Special Electric Guitar:

I got an unreal price on one of these because it was a demo the nieghbohood kids had worked on for a while. My repairman works for a big guitar company custom shop and was as impressed with the quality as I was. After strings and setup, it plays fantastic. The stock pickups were a little soft for my thrash metal band, so I changed them and went on tour. I have owned some other Korean made guitars, and this one is as good as any of them.

When I was in Iraq I was looking at relacing my ESP AX50 with a much better guitar and I found this one online. I couldn't wait to come home and buy it! Once I finally got it I loved it. It fealt like I could play better on it. The body is very comfortable and everything is high quality. It sounds great even with basic pedals. Don't pass it up!

    B.C. Righteous

Comments about B.C. Rich Mockingbird Special Electric Guitar:

This is my first BC since the big bad 80's, when they were hand made and EXPENSIVE. The Mock Special is every bit as high quality as my last one, and a heck of a lot less costly. I absolutely love the Rockfield SWV's classic sound, and the old school control layout is all I've ever needed, though I would appreciate a coil tap. My white Mock played beautifully right out of the box, with only the tiniest neck tweak needed. It plays so nicely that I had a hard time believing that it shipped with a .10 set of strings on it. Every aspect of this guitar screams high quality, except the price. It's also so classy looking that it doesn't seem out of place in any genre of rock, not just metal. Seems like BC Rich has their act together again. I couldn't be happier.

    Great tone, good feel

    By Lefty_Headbanger

Comments about B.C. Rich Mockingbird Special Electric Guitar:

I've always wanted a Mockingbird, but being left handed has some serious draw backs. Fortunately, BC Rich offer their Mockingbird Special in a lefty model, and I've finally got my hands on one.Overall I am very, very satisfied with this guitar. Its pretty much exactly what I expected - the tone of the mahogany body and neck provide a real thick tone, and the neck thru construction gives one of the most comfortable playing experiences I've had so far. The frets are nice and it stays in tune perfectly (I use .11s in drop C). The Rockfield SWVs are a real treat also - they've got a medium gain sound that really lets the quality of your tone show through, the cleans can go from bright to smooth and warm, and a good distortion can turn into a deep, gritty growl. Its a huge difference from the EMGs I used to use...and I like it. Definitely great all around pickups.I've had 2 problems with mine so far: 1.) it came with a faulty selector switch and the bridge pickup cuts out sometimes. My dealer will fix it free of charge though, so no biggie. 2.)The "Ebony" fretboard definitely looks like Rosewood that has been painted over, aka, not real Ebony wood. It still looks amazing and is super slick under your fingers, but I noticed some black coloring left on my finger tips after extensive playing. I'm worried that the Ebony color on the fingerboard will eventually wear off, but so far no noticeable damage is present. Its a shame BC Rich still cuts a few corners on their high end imports.Overall an excellent sounding and playing instrument. I'll be using this baby for a good while to come.

    unexpected pleasure

    By Shane Phillips

Comments about B.C. Rich Mockingbird Special Electric Guitar:

I am a huge BC Rich warlock fan, play mine all the time. I actually didn't plan on buying this guitar. I went to a guitar store and had plans on buying another guitar that caught my eye. The Mockingbird Special was on clearance for a ridiculous price. So I figured I couldn't pass up the value. I took it home, plugged it in and was blown away!! Wow the tone was unbelievable, it sounded great coming out of my Line6 Spider. The sustain was incredible. I never played a guitar that sounded this good, and it looks pretty sw00t as well (i got the black one). So look out warlock, the bird packs a serious punch!! Gonna throw some Ernie Balls on it tonight after work :)
