Comments about B.C. Rich Pro X Custom Special X3 Mockingbird Electric Guitar:

This is the 7th guitar I've bought sight-unseen from MF (and the 2nd M-bird). So far, I've kept 4 (a chambered LP gold-top, an ultra-light mahogany Tele, and 2 'novelty-guitars' [a Rocketeer and a 5/6 size Ibanez Destroyer]) and had to return 2 (an Epi SG Prophecy and a red Mockingbird--slightly different model than this). I've always wanted a Mockingbird; in the '70s when all those BC Rich 'pointy' guitars came out (Bich, Warlock, Bird, et al), these were the ones that looked great without the, um, 'adolescent' vibe/metal sensibility. This one's not as heavy as the 1st one I tried, and instead of 2HBs w/ coil-taps, series/parallel, a Floyd, and V-V-T, this one has the 3-HB layout of those '60 or '61 tuxedo-white SG 'Les Paul's: 2vol, 2tone, limited switching (the 3-way goes Bridge, Bridge and middle, neck). One Vol/tone pair goes to the neck p/u, the other is for bridge and bridge-middle....not how I'd have done it, either, but it's the familiar Gibson 3 pickup setup (I'm not sure about 3 pickup Firebirds with 3-ways...) for Black Beauties and those SGs. So, how's it sound? It sounds like I'm going to swap out the pickups and re-do the wiring scheme: these pickups seem "OK", but that's it. The bridge and bridge/middle have a pretty abrasive bark to them (which is annoying clean, but fairly rich harmonically with distortion). They sound a lot like a 496R and 496T. THe neck pickup is a lot warmer, and at least as loud as the other 2. there's not a lot of difference between the sound of 'bridge' and that of 'bridge and middle', btw. Mine's going to get JBs with coil cuts, and a S. Duncan Phat Cat (hb-sized P-90) for the neck spot. 3 volumes and 1 tone. 3 on/offs might not be a bad idea, either.
The tuners are nice and tight, inlay looks good, and none of my pots quite scrape the recess's sides like some reviewers mentioned (I can see where they are talking about, though. I've seen the same on PRS carved-tops, too). The finish is great on mine (honeyburst on quilted maple). Mine needed no set-up, either: it arrived intonated and with proper relief. It shipped with D'Addarrio 10-46s, so I'll re-check it when I put on my own 9-42s. All in all, this is an elegant-looking, easy-to-play, comfortable guitar, and mine's bound for ~really~ good tone once I get through 'upgrading' the pickups and wiring. After I ordered mine (it was the Stupid Deal a week ago), I saw it in the Sept. MF catalog--back page SALE ITEMS--for the same price as the SDOTD. Either way, it's worth the full price, and I'm really happy with the one I just got for 1/2 price. Now, where's my soldering iron?~~~~~

Comments about B.C. Rich Pro X Custom Special X3 Mockingbird Electric Guitar:

Bought a Condition One for almost 80% off of MSRP...unbelieveable, thanx MF(again..) Stunning Bookmatched Quilted Maple Top (not a Veneer). Only had to Intonate A couple cents on a couple saddles.. Best Factory Set-Up I've seen, sweet action, good relief, smooth playability. PUPS(Broad Dynamic Sonically Matched) are good enough but some will surely want Hotter Output. Bridge PUP knobs drag on the finish but that will wear away I suppose. Body is 2" thick like a Paul but not too heavy. Strap balance is fine, nice big strap buttons. Stays in tune but is worthy of Sperzals upgrade. Mid position on PUP selector is mid/bridge PUP combo, not sure about that yet, may have to add mini-switch to get all 3 on at once plus middle PUP by itself. Overall, this is the best value I've ever gotten. Including 2 Acoustics(Martin,Washburn)and a Bass I'm @ a Baker's Dozen...my wife(keyboards)agrees, that should be enough. (ESP,Fndr,Gib,G&L,Hag,Ibnz,RWG,Wshbrn) Anyone else out there addicted to guitars? A Healthy Habit 4 Sure.

Comments about B.C. Rich Pro X Custom Special X3 Mockingbird Electric Guitar:

Exceptional quality and unbelieveable tone, even at full price it would be a deal. Was hesitant to buy due to lack of full description on the website, but am i glad i pulled the trigger. All 3 pickups are great plenty of bluesy sounds from the neck great classic rock tones from the middle position (which is middle and bridge combined) and awesome searing lead tones from the bridge. The finish is beautiful, the pictures do not do the guitar justice at all. Everyone that has seen and heard it has been very impressed. It is nice to see bc rich making this type of instrument again, makes me feel like a kid in the 70's again

Comments about B.C. Rich Pro X Custom Special X3 Mockingbird Electric Guitar:

For purpose of calibrating my opinion, I have many years of experience and training in music theory and playing both keyboard and guitar. I have owned many guitars. At this price, this is as good an instrument that can be expected. The construction and fit/finish is as good as anything I have examined and played in the $2500 and below catagory. In a word, it has to be considered excellent from that regard.
The pickups are 'okay' - nothing exceptional.
The guitar was set-up very accurately out-of-the-box. It does not come with a manual or any literature. It also has minimal packing inside the box, a bit disappointing as it could have vry easily been damaged in transport; that was not an issue in this instance, but certainly could be. The 4 knobs are assigned to control the tone/volume are used an unintuitive way, IMHO, a sub-optimal configuration. The arrangement to control 3 pickups with 4 knobs that Gibson does on their offerings is much more sensible and offers more tonal variety. And on that topic, the radically arched top causes the knobs to scrape the finish.

Comments about B.C. Rich Pro X Custom Special X3 Mockingbird Electric Guitar:

I had an old BC Rich NJ Acrylic Warlock back in the day. I hawked it when times got rough and never even missed it. When my wife ordered this for me as a birthday present, I new it would be a NICE guitar, but I didn't know HOW NICE. First off, right out of the box, beautiful instrument- Gorgeous flame maple top, flawless finish. I dig the binding- very nicely done. The stock photo that Musician's Friend has on file does NOT do this thing justice. I know this is all done by machine, but it's really nice all the same. I tell ya- these new axes coming out of South Korea are really giving the US made instruments a run for their money. The setup was just to my tastes- it's like I set it up myself. Super low, with some .009's on it. Playing through my Mesa Mark V, I'm getting tones anywhere from ZZtop to Pantera and beyond. That middle pickup is a real curveball- you can pull some surprisingly usable tones from that pickup. Lotta folks carping about the pickups- I like em fine as far as stock pickups go. Everyone has their favorites, and maybe a few years down the road, I'll look into some Duncans for this beast, but the point here is that these are not the stock throwaway pickups that import guitars used to ship with back in the 90's- they are definitely valid units on par with anything I've seen in much more expensive guitars. Super fast neck- very new school approach, easy on my abused hands. Good hardware- not the cheap stuff at all. Good tuners- my bandmates are getting tired of my "Tuned at the factory" remark every rehearsal. Buy one. NOW. I COMMAND YOU!

My other Mock's have balance issues requiring moving the rear strap button up a couple inches. Not this one. The quality of workmanship is way better than I expected from an import. Plays GREAT right out of the box. Required no bridge or truss rod adjustment. The pickups that came in it are a really good PAF style pickup. I'll end up changing to my usual Seymour Duncan's in the future but right now these are doing great. The quilt top on this one is AMAZING. The figure in the MOP inlays is beautiful. Overall an excellent guitar at any price but unrivalled in this price range.

Comments about B.C. Rich Pro X Custom Special X3 Mockingbird Electric Guitar:

Rarely am I amazed? This new B. C. Rich electric is simply stunning in fit, finish, sound, quality, and all jokes aside, I was honestly stunned when I took it out of the packaging. After tuning it up, and plugged in a nice Fender Reverb Deluxe amp, this guitar has all the qualities of a guitar that cost over thousands more. In all honesty, I own Fender Strats, Taylors, PRS, Epiphone, LTD's, Takamine's and more and I'll place this guitar up against any of them for fit, finish, sound and quality. Do yourself a huge favor and play one, and unless you happy to get a "lemon", *( there are lemon's in each and every group of guitars, so not all are the same, even though the name is the same ), however if your order is of standard issues, you'll be hard pressed to find a better quality and sounding guitar. For the money, it's hands down, the best buy I've ever gotten.

This really Suprised me with just how beautiful the maple top was. The pictures do not do it justice. The fretboard and the setup are darn near perfect. It is nice to have a different body style than a normal les paul or a strat. The one down fall if there is one is the bridge and middle pickups. They are really muddy. I think if you put a better set of pickups in this it would go toe to toe with any american made electric costing thousands. It is my second korean built axe and both have flawless build quality. I really can't say enough about how beautiful the maple top is. I don't have a good way to describe it other than everyone that sees if says man that thing is sweet.

I have a lot more expensive guitars but I have to say that the X3 is made very well and would compare it to my USA PRS or my USA Strat. If they go on sale again you should defiantly grab one.

Comments about B.C. Rich Pro X Custom Special X3 Mockingbird Electric Guitar:

I really wanted a Mockingbird back in my younger days ... decades ago, but never had one. I could not pass up this MF SDotD. What a deal!

I've been playing guitar on and off for 30+ years (or at least 1 year 30+ times). I've built guitars ... from parts ... from scratch ... so I know what a good guitar is ... and this is a good guitar.

This is possibly the newest guitar I have ever purchased. The strings were not even stretched when I got it. Once the strings were stretched and I tuned it up, it played great. Really! The action was near perfect right out of the box.

The craftsmanship is also perfect. Not a flaw. The fret ends are smooth. No dead spots on the neck, so nice level frets. The electronics worked. All 3 pups, position switch, and knobs, they all worked without any scratching, popping, or hissing noise.

The last few years I picked up the Rocksmith game. I know some folks will not think much of playing guitar with a game, but that game has tested my playing and stretched it to new heights. This guitar looked great for the game: fixed bridge, humbuckers, and upper fret access. I was not disappointed. Rocksmith loves this guitar. It gets great note recognition ... fantastic note recognition. Perfect for the game.

The only possible flaw with this guitar is the upper horn digs into my chest while playing seated and concentrating on the fretboard. It is not an issue while standing or sitting upright.

i wanted one since the early 70s. why i waited so long, i dont know. price was a big factor. musicians friend offered it for a killer price and made a dream come true. I cant put it down, having it has re-kindeled my intrest in learning and music in general. It's one of the nicest guitars i have ever owned. Thanks.

This is my first electric guitar, and I couldn't be happier to learn the great art of playing the guitar on this steal of a deal. I checked my local music shops, and held many different guitars, from various price points, and this looks, and feels every bit as good as some guitars I looked at with a $2000 plus price tag. I am a novice, but from what I can tell, this is extremely well made. I'm so glad I purchased this guitar, and will be cherishing it for years to come. Thank you Musiciansfriend.com.

First off, I don't do reviews, so this should tell you something.
Saw it in gold, and had to have it. Got it for a steal, great DOTD, and gosh, am I a lucky boy. Plays like silk. Great tone.
I can't believe I own a guitar like this. Ever since I saw C.C. dive bomb on a BC Rich in 1987, I wanted one. Then Slash had his red one. And now I have one of my very own.
I've had Gibsons, and Fenders, and electrics and acoustics, but this is the sleekest, slinkiest, sweetest, and snazziest guitar I've ever owned. Not clunky, well balanced, the knobs are like glass. Great crafrmanship on the body.
Everyday, when I get home, I look at the guitar and say......Wow, I own this?

it plays and sounds better than my Canadian made Gibson Flying V and the "V" was a costlier guitar, this beaut was on sale and could not pass up a seemingly great buy like that, .. also it's easier to fret, than the "V" and has sustain up the ying yang, intonation is perfect, you can even hybrid pick it like a tele and chicken picking is easy on this guitar's fretboard, I know B.C. Rich is generally known as a heavy metal "style" guitar, but I would not hesitate playing any style or genre of guitar music with this guitar since you can dial up just about any tone to emulate just about any guitar sound

This guitar was purchased as a "stupid deal of the day" and I musts admit it is just that. I feel as if I have stolen a guitar!!!! I love the instrument. Neck through, mahogany body, a beautiful quilted maple top and very solid electronics for that stupid deal of the day price??? I say YES! Any guitarist that has had the luxury of playing B.C. Rich electric guitars knows how slick and fast the necks are, and this one is no exception. The guitar feels wonderful almost light in comparison to a Les Paul. I purchased this for my son as his first electric guitar, and I must admit I will be playing it when he is not around! Had I known I liked this as much as I do I would have bought two. Thank you and YES I recommend this guitar to anyone who wants a great deal. The only drawback is the lack of a case. This is a unique guitar body style and finding a case has proved a bit tricky and a bit expensive. Overall this is a must to add to any guitarist collection. Thank you!

Comments about B.C. Rich Pro X Custom Special X3 Mockingbird Electric Guitar:

You can find out plenty about this guitar elsewhere, but there's a few things you should know. There are cutouts in the guitar for the knobs, which don't appear in the advertised pictures for either guitar. Three of the four are slightly oblong circles, and none of the knobs are centered. Inside the cutouts, the finish coat is thin and worn in places, and is not smooth like the rest of the guitar. You have to look closely and feel it to notice. (The knobs do not rub the guitar). I got the tobacco burst with gold hardware, and the color of the guitar seems a bit darker, almost like the version with silver hardware. Also, the back is a darkish brown, not black, like it appears in the picture. When I pulled it out of the box I thought they sent me the wrong guitar. It certainly is not the same as it was advertised. It's almost like a blend of the two guitars. It still looks really nice, and I absolutely love to play it.. I would've rated this a 5, but I rated it a 4 to bring attention to these things. Knowing what I do now, I probably would have still bought the guitar because it was a great deal, and I am happy with it. Though this would have been nice to know in advance. Last thought... I plan on swapping the knobs out for some gold ones. :)
