OVERVIEW

Custom Shop performance and exceptional value in a U.S.-made acoustic guitar.

The Breedlove Pro Series C25/CRe Herringbone Acoustic-Electric Guitar is a concert-sized instrument with a soft cutaway, AAA solid cedar top, AAA solid rosewood back and sides, ivoroid binding with herringbone top purfling, abalone rosette, and an L.R. Baggs Element Active pickup system with volume and tone controls. The PS C25/CRe Herringbone guitar offers sparkling tone and a gorgeous, streamlined look and feel that make it an instrument you won't want to put down.

All Breedlove Custom Shop steel-string guitars (except for the Revival Series), Pro Series and Atlas Series guitars use the JLD Bridge Truss system. This device is a cantilevered truss that helps to counterbalance string tension at the bridge, creating a relaxed top and improved structural integrity. This allows the tops to be braced in a very progressive way, with a focus on realizing the full acoustic potential of the top. A relaxed top provides maximal wavelength response and a synergy is created by use of a graduated top thickness, balanced scalloped bracing, and a pinless bridge in combination with the bridge truss system. This gives Breedlove guitars the distinctive and highly dynamic "Breedlove Sound", with a piano-like bass and a remarkably well-balanced tone suitable for a broad variety of musical styles.

I already have a Taylor 814CE which is the best acoustic I have ever owned (or played), a Martin which is nice but lacks shimmer and rich harmonics but I still like it, a Taylor 12-string (gorgeous), various other acoustics (including a couple for taking outdoors just for fun), and a bunch of electrics; I've been playing and collecting for over forty years.

Having recently purchased a Breedlove American OO mandolin, I decided to see what they offered in guitars. The Breedlove Pro Series C25/CRe is a discontinued line at a significant markdown. I LOVE IT! I still like my Taylor better but the Breedlove is a strong second. The wider string spacing encourages me to fingerpick and the cedar is rich sounding and not quite as bright as spruce (but still bright, not muddy or like a nylon string sound). I still need to do a small setup (it came close from the factory but still needs a little work).

Yes, the parts are machined in Korea; that's OK, they did a good job; assembly is in the US; they did a good job too. It has gold/black tuners rather than chrome (I like the gold better anyway and they go well with the mahogany and rosewood), the logo is above the third and fourth tuning keys (so what, it doesn't change the way it plays or sounds). The rosewood back and sides are beautiful (gloss finish), the top is beautiful red cedar (gloss finish), and the neck is mahogany (matte finish). The electronics sound great and are very simply mounted in the sound hole, not invasive (no cuts in the side like my Taylors), and since it's just a volume and center-click tone there is no battery (no active tone controls). It sounds great acoustically, can be brighter amplified using the tone control if desired; I will likely use a mix of amplified and a microphone.

This guitar is a keeper.

I was so excited to receive this guitar, especially after MF did a blow out price. I have wanted a USA Breedlove for many years. Before most even knew who they were. Went to quite a few specialty shops to play them just never made the jump. This guitar is beautiful and looks extremely well made. Even the case is beautful. But I was disappointed that the bridge is blemished. Looks like someones hand has been resting on it for awhile and the finish is partly worn off. Shouldn't be like that for a brand new guitar. And the action is miserable. I have a $400.00 Alverez that plays better. I went to the local shop and played a couple of the Breedlove atlas series ( Not US made ) and they played 10x better. Really disappointed that I have to go pay to have this set up. But either way, I'll keep her. She's my baby now.

Comments about Breedlove Pro Series C25/CRe Herringbone Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This Breedlove Pro Series was to replace an earlier ordered and returned Breedlove Cascade Series that lacked the mosaic markers on the neck. This Breedlove Pro Series arrived with the wrong Gotoh tuners (having the gold and black tuners, instead of the chrome tuners). Plus, the back and sides were stained almost black, so if it had AAA woods, I sure could not tell. It sounds nice, but if I were in the store, I would hang it back on the wall. So I will return this one as well.

Comments about Breedlove Pro Series C25/CRe Herringbone Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Wow...this is an excellent guitar! I did a lot of research, and played a lot of other guitars...could have spent a lot more, but i didnt need to... This one was perfect, right out of the box: Made in USA, looks great, plays awesome, sounds incredible, no plastic... Yes, the neck is a little wide and flat, but I play a lot of cluster-chords, and found the extra room to fit in my fat fingers comes in real handy. The body size and shape is very comfortable, with no notable loss of Bass response... The litmus test for me...playing three hours or more was not fatiguing at all. This thing rings! Lots of natural sustain, very well-balanced sound with great articulation. Sounds very natural through the pickup system...and no holes cut in body for controls! Looking for a great guitar? Look no further...buy this one...you wont be sorry!

Comments about Breedlove Pro Series C25/CRe Herringbone Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

While I am a Breedlove fan, even I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful warm tones and the volume that issued from this instrument when I strummed it for the first time. I own a D25 Pro with Sitka top so I was aware of the quality of the guitars in this series, but the slightly smaller body on this guitar in no way limits the volume. The cedar top results in a beautifully smooth and warm tone from both fingerstyle and strumming, and the magic woven into the guitar by the wizards at Breedlove helps to create a wonderfully balanced and even tone throughout. Lack of a pickguard is a subtle hint that this instrument will shine in fingerstyle applications, and one short run over the fretboard will convince you of the same. Overall an articulate and beautiful instrument that will give years of pleasure for both you and your audience.

Comments about Breedlove Pro Series C25/CRe Herringbone Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've played since I was 7 years old and owned every major brand of acoustic and electric. For the money, this is one of the finest guitars I've ever owned. However, I play classical as well as blues/rock and so I am used to a wider stance near the nut. This guitar has a very comfortable, but wider neck and the string separation near the saddle feels wider than a Taylor or Larrivee. I love that, but some people might not. Tone is excellent, a little like a D-28 Martin and almost as loud. A ction and finish is exellent too. The ONLY thing I wish they had done differently is a better pick up system. It has the LR BAggs Element and if it instead had the LR Baggs iMix, I would be a lot happier. The Element is just a bit too shrill and does not really transmit the "woody" sound the guitar has. Other than the pick up, this is really a GREAT guitar for the price point, but one should definitely play it before you buy it. If you're used to a 1 11/16 in neck, the nut width may be too much for you. It has the same stated wdth as a Taylor and Larrivvee (L or OM) of 1.75, but this Breedlove feels a little bit wider than 1.75 and the string stance is definitely a hint wider than a Larrivee or Taylor.

Comments about Breedlove Pro Series C25/CRe Herringbone Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I used to have a '65 Gibson J45…I sold it because this guitar beat it hands-down in comparison! The Breedlove tone is unique…even across the board, but with a deep, resonant bass to crisp highs in this American-made model. The cedar top/rosewood back & sides adds to a wonderful tonal mix. The guitar has a nice sustain to it and good volume for a smaller-bodied concert size. I like the slim neck and the 1 3/4" nut width. No problems with the pickup---sounds fine on a stage. The only flaws I discovered were: a small 1/4" crack along the lines of the woodgrain in the finish(not the wood) near the tip of the pointy side of the bridge on the treble side. I have read of others that had this happen. I missed spotting it after I bought the guitar…I decided to keep it anyway. Also, there were a few uneven frets that I had to have dressed so the guitar could play correctly---the guitar had sat in the store for almost a year, so it would have needed it anyway. Properly set up, the playability and sound is superb---I can't understand why these did not sell more successfully---and now this model is discontinued. Mine did not develop any 'cloudiness' in the finish as some others experienced. If you can find one on the used market, give it a try---it has as good a sound as any Taylor or Martin that costs many hundreds more.

I really have nothing negative to say about this guitar. It sounds and looks amazing. At first I was set on buying a Gibson Hummingbird Pro, but decided to take a chance on this one after seeing many positive reviews and I'm glad I did. I cant seem to play this thing enough. Just amazing.

Comments about Breedlove Pro Series C25/CRe Herringbone Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Received this C25/CReH a week ago, and other than a tiny darker dot on the headstock, it's flawless in appearance. LOTS of relief in the neck and I really just did a set-up from scratch, including new Elixir's. I called Breedlove and got the production date and it had sat in a warehouse for 7 months. A couple of turns on the trussrod (a very nice wrench is included) and 1/16" off the saddle, and she's good. I'm sure there are better electronics, but all things considered, I'm pleased. No holes cut in the body, yet nice full sound through several acoustic amps I played through. Mine came with the ebony buttons on the tuners (not shown in the ad), but enhance the look overall because of the ebony fretboard, IMHO.
