I already have a Taylor 814CE which is the best acoustic I have ever owned (or played), a Martin which is nice but lacks shimmer and rich harmonics but I still like it, a Taylor 12-string (gorgeous), various other acoustics (including a couple for taking outdoors just for fun), and a bunch of electrics; I've been playing and collecting for over forty years.
Having recently purchased a Breedlove American OO mandolin, I decided to see what they offered in guitars. The Breedlove Pro Series C25/CRe is a discontinued line at a significant markdown. I LOVE IT! I still like my Taylor better but the Breedlove is a strong second. The wider string spacing encourages me to fingerpick and the cedar is rich sounding and not quite as bright as spruce (but still bright, not muddy or like a nylon string sound). I still need to do a small setup (it came close from the factory but still needs a little work).
Yes, the parts are machined in Korea; that's OK, they did a good job; assembly is in the US; they did a good job too. It has gold/black tuners rather than chrome (I like the gold better anyway and they go well with the mahogany and rosewood), the logo is above the third and fourth tuning keys (so what, it doesn't change the way it plays or sounds). The rosewood back and sides are beautiful (gloss finish), the top is beautiful red cedar (gloss finish), and the neck is mahogany (matte finish). The electronics sound great and are very simply mounted in the sound hole, not invasive (no cuts in the side like my Taylors), and since it's just a volume and center-click tone there is no battery (no active tone controls). It sounds great acoustically, can be brighter amplified using the tone control if desired; I will likely use a mix of amplified and a microphone.
This guitar is a keeper.

I was so excited to receive this guitar, especially after MF did a blow out price. I have wanted a USA Breedlove for many years. Before most even knew who they were. Went to quite a few specialty shops to play them just never made the jump. This guitar is beautiful and looks extremely well made. Even the case is beautful. But I was disappointed that the bridge is blemished. Looks like someones hand has been resting on it for awhile and the finish is partly worn off. Shouldn't be like that for a brand new guitar. And the action is miserable. I have a $400.00 Alverez that plays better. I went to the local shop and played a couple of the Breedlove atlas series ( Not US made ) and they played 10x better. Really disappointed that I have to go pay to have this set up. But either way, I'll keep her. She's my baby now.

I really have nothing negative to say about this guitar. It sounds and looks amazing. At first I was set on buying a Gibson Hummingbird Pro, but decided to take a chance on this one after seeing many positive reviews and I'm glad I did. I cant seem to play this thing enough. Just amazing.

Comments about Breedlove Pro Series C25/CRe Herringbone Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
Received this C25/CReH a week ago, and other than a tiny darker dot on the headstock, it's flawless in appearance. LOTS of relief in the neck and I really just did a set-up from scratch, including new Elixir's. I called Breedlove and got the production date and it had sat in a warehouse for 7 months. A couple of turns on the trussrod (a very nice wrench is included) and 1/16" off the saddle, and she's good. I'm sure there are better electronics, but all things considered, I'm pleased. No holes cut in the body, yet nice full sound through several acoustic amps I played through. Mine came with the ebony buttons on the tuners (not shown in the ad), but enhance the look overall because of the ebony fretboard, IMHO.
Pros
- Quality Of The Wood
- Sound Plugged Unplugged
- The Bridge Reinforcement
Cons
- Do Not Like Herringbone
- No Eq Control Just Tone
- Wood Bindings Instead

Comments about Breedlove Pro Series C25/CRe Herringbone Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
This is hard to write because I love Breedlove guitars. This guitar is beautiful and sounds wonderful. However, mine arrived with more than a couple serious issues. First I noticed a serious buzz when playing the b&e strings above the 5th fret. Its something inside the guitar. Like a bad brace or poorly mounted electronics. Its loud enough to be heard when standing up and playing at full volume.
and while I can probably deal with that because it can be easily corrected, I assume, another issue is harder to handle. The finish on the shoulder of the guitar is starting to "fog". A 2 by 2 inch square is starting to turn to a lighter, hazier color with gray overtones. that cannot be fixed.
I payed with PAYPAL so musicians friend will only give me the money back, which is fine I suppose. called breedlove and they will take is back and return to me a new one...but the wait time is 3-4 months!! geeze
the action is also terrible, but that is a minor complaint...
Pros
- Beautiful finish

- Wonderful tone
Cons

Comments about Breedlove Pro Series C25/CRe Herringbone Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I must say, I was skeptical when buying from MF, or any online vendor for that matter. This was the first time I've purchased a guitar online. I must say, it was great! The guitar came shipped solid and very well packaged. The only issue and it can definitely be resolved is that certain frequencies mostly F#,C# in the bass tones cause a slight buzzing inside the soundhole. It could be wires, it could anything, I just haven't had a chance to investigate much further.

Comments about Breedlove Pro Series C25/CRe Herringbone Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
What you get:
A STELLAR guitar that excels both unplugged and plugged in.
Great looking woods and finish.
Incredible balance of tones. The highs, mids, and lows are all there and are crystal clear.
Breedlove has this brightness to its tone that I really fell in love with.
What you'll need to do:
Have a professional setup done. Mine required truss rod adjustment and quite a bit of material taken off the saddle to be truly playable. It also needed a tiny bit of material filed from the nut slots to ease the fingering of lower notes and make it feel (dare I say) like a Taylor. Now, it's a dream guitar, worthy of even a professional's hands, and at a great price too.
Pros
- Rich Balanced Tone
- Superb action

Comments about Breedlove Pro Series C25/CRe Herringbone Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
This guitar was a real find. The action on mine is in a class with the Martin Performance series or the higher-end Taylors that I played in comparison. It has the ease and high-fret accessibility of a fine electric. The most pleasant surprise was the deep, resonant tone with the clear highs. I had not expected to find such a rich, full sound in a guitar this size. To my ears, it outclassed the Martins and Taylors. I purchased this Breedlove in February, 2012, and continue to be very happy with it.
Pros
- Excellent tone
- Excellent workmanship
- Great Value
Cons
- none

Comments about Breedlove Pro Series C25/CRe Herringbone Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
This Breedlove Pro Series was to replace an earlier ordered and returned Breedlove Cascade Series that lacked the mosaic markers on the neck. This Breedlove Pro Series arrived with the wrong Gotoh tuners (having the gold and black tuners, instead of the chrome tuners). Plus, the back and sides were stained almost black, so if it had AAA woods, I sure could not tell. It sounds nice, but if I were in the store, I would hang it back on the wall. So I will return this one as well.
