OVERVIEW

Breedlove's popular Concert body with an ear-pleasing cedar-sapele tonewood combo.

The Pursuit Concert captures Breedlove’s distinctively crafted sound in an affordable package. Exuding an earthy, warm response from a light touch, the cedar-mahogany wood set is one of the most esteemed tonewood combinations. The popular concert body top is made of solid cedar, producing mature tones that are detailed and pleasing. Mahogany graces the back and sides. Includes built-in USB port for easy interfacing with recording software.

Concert Body Shape
The Breedlove Concert is the original Breedlove shape. It first appeared in 1992, and has been the best-selling Breedlove body shape ever since. Designed specifically for the fingerstylist to be well-balanced, compact and comfortable to play, it generates a wonderfully articulate range of tone with an ample low end that is never boomy, but always felt. The unique construction also allows the Concert to sing even at a full strum. If you’re a fingerstylist, or are seeking an instrument to use as vocal accompaniment, this is the shape for you. The Concert is engineered to provide exceptional sustain with a pronounced bass response, both of which can be achieved with a light touch. The graduated top works in harmony with the Breedlove Bridge Truss to provide an even response throughout the lows, mids, and highs, with sustain, and clear, concise, note-for-note projection.

Breedlove Bridge Truss
The Breedlove Bridge Truss (BBT) reduces tension on the soundboard of the guitar, so the top wood is able to vibrate more freely, producing remarkable sustain, balance, and clarity. The BBT also allows for a thinner graduated top, thereby allowing Breedlove craftsmen to bring out the optimal sound from the top wood without sacrificing structural stability. Relieving much of the string tension from the bridge prevents “bridge belly,” ensuring top stability for decades. Guitar strings can exert up to 230 pounds of pull from the nut to the bridge. Traditional methods for preventing top bowing at the bridge usually involve heavy internal bracing and thicker tops. The BBT compensates for this pressure in an innovative way: The BBT is mounted to the bridge from the inside and is connected into the tail block of the guitar, pulling downward on the underside of the bridge to distribute some of the tension, relieving pressure on the top. The resulting tonal effect on BBT-equipped guitars is more resonance and livelier sound with enhanced overtones.

Breedlove Pinless Bridge
The Breedlove Pinless Bridge helps maintain the integrity of the top by eliminating the need for six drilled string holes. The fewer holes in your soundboard, the more evenly the sound wave can move across the interior, without any loss of energy. The Breedlove Pinless Bridge also provides a gentler string-break angle from the bridge to the top of the saddle, reducing saddle strain. This innovative bridge also makes string changes a breeze, especially on 12 strings. Plus, you’ll never again have to worry about lost, worn-out, or broken bridge pins.

Breedlove Neck
Breedlove guitars feature a slimmer neck profile, which enables comfortable play, even with smaller hands. The hand-rubbed, semi-gloss Breedlove neck finish also contributes to ideal playability. The labor-intensive finish process includes precise finish coat applications, fine sanding, and hand buffing and rubbing.

Set Up and Quality Assurance in Bend, Oregon
The comprehensive quality control process provides the player with an instrument that will play perfectly right out of the box. Prior to shipment, every Breedlove instrument undergoes a rigorous 25-to-30-point inspection in Bend, Oregon by their expert U.S. quality control team. They start with a visual inspection: checking aesthetic and structural elements of the body and components for flaws. Next, each guitar is tuned and undergoes a play test, where our craftspeople check nut height, relief, action and string height. Based on the results of the play test, they are adjusted for maximum playability. Finally, each instrument is buffed and polished by hand with painstaking attention to detail. Once the instrument has passed inspection, a signed QC sticker is placed, and the instrument is carefully packed and shipped.

Limited Lifetime Warranty
Breedlove players around the world can attest: With consistent, proper care, your Breedlove will give you a lifetime of service – and inspiration. New Breedlove instruments are warrantied to be free of defects in materials and workmanship throughout the lifetime of the original owner. In addition to materials and workmanship, Breedlove offers a two-year warranty on tuning machines and electronics packages.

I absolutely love this guitar, I bough mine last May when my local shop got the first shipment of them. The only downside was that the stock strings (D'addario EXP16 Lights) wore down very fast, withing the first month of playing I put Elixir Acoustic 80/20 Extra Light strings on and the sound so much better, and have lasted a lot longer. Also the stock 9V battery ran down unusually quick, but again just put a different one in and it will last you much longer.

Outside of those two things I have no complaints! I have had an Ovation, Guild, 70's Yamaha, and a few fenders but I would choose this over every single one of them. The electronics sound beautiful and the guitar has an amazingly rich tone whether its plugged in or not.

I would very much recommend this guitar to everyone!

I purchased this guitar after having purchased the Breedlove Pursuit Nylon String Guitar which I found to be a superb instrument for the money. In my review of that guitar, I commented that I would purchase the Steel String Variant to see if the Cedar Topped Steel String would be equally impressive. Based on the two, now in possession, I am disappointed in the steel string guitar's low end projection.

I find it hard to describe the problem with the projection. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th string resound with pleasing tonal quality and sustain. The 5th and 6th string sound as if they are doing their best to project the sound but, for lack of a better description, I get the image of those strings being out of breath and gasping for air.... Tonal Quality is not the issue.... it is the projection. Thus, those two strings require more pressure to compete with the others or one must use a lighter touch on the first four strings.

A complete change of strings brought a surprise... With all strings removed I replaced the 6th string first. As I was bringing the string up to tune, the nut broke free of the neck and shot past me. After recovery and inspection, it was apparent that the bonding material applied to the nut was minimal and only contacted the bottom of the nut between the 2nd and 3rd string. Aha! I thought..... Hoping that after repair and good contact the 5th and 6th string would come to life. Not so... The string change and repair did bring about an improved sound and projection did come up a bit but not enough in my opinion. The guitar wants to sing but so far, I have not happened upon the cure. Maybe it is better suited for plectrum players or use of a thumb pick for finger style players.

I will keep the guitar and continue to muse over the projection problem. It was reasonable enough with the huge discount offered that returning it seems not worth the effort. Please note this was a "New" guitar. Not a return or open box item.

Comments about Breedlove Pursuit Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

First encountered this guitar while looking to upgrade from a student Yamaha to a good intermediate instrument. Like any good wishful thinking I started at the Taylors and Martins (my instructor plays a Taylor that I covet). While plinking away on a Taylor another customer handed me this guitar and I could not tell the difference. I am no pro, and if I was would not be looking for a 400 guitar. But for a 60 hobbyist I am thrilled. The action (a biggie for me) is fantastic, and the Martin strings I put on it, stay in tune and sound great.

      Thin and boxy

Comments about Breedlove Pursuit Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Own several higher end guitars (Gibson, Martin, Taylor). I bought this guitar looking for a smaller body acoustic electric. Reviews seem to mostly praise this guitar but I was less than impressed. Guitar is very bright sounding (almost no low end) and if using a pick has a boxy sound (like putting strings on a tin can). Played next to my smaller GS Mini, the GS has a much more full sound while being much smaller. Maybe Breedlove's higher end sound better but this one went straight back to MF.

Comments about Breedlove Pursuit Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Of all our guitars, we lacked a decent steel string acoustic. I researched Martin, Taylor, and Breedlove and then went to GC to play my top picks. I was surprised to see a Chinese made Breedlove in "the good guitar room". After picking it up and playing a few notes I knew exactly why it was in there. My playing style is mostly finger picking style, and I was attracted to the tone of a steel sting Cedar top, and that tone is warm and rich for my playing style. The Fishman electronics sound wonderful and this guitar sounds so elegant through my Genz-Benz Shanendoah 60. I could have spent more coin, but not so sure I would have had a guitar that sounded as good.

Solid top, made in US, rich and lively sounding, excellent electronics and tuner. I bought this for my nephew, and even though he's still a novice, he immediately recognized the rich sounding in the Breedlove versus his Fender acoustic. Action is nicely low and easy to play. Finish is beeeaaauuutifuuull!!! Good job Breedlove

Comments about Breedlove Pursuit Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was stunned at the quality, sound, playability, and beauty of this instrument given its price tag -which I was able to get even lower than the normal retail price :). The neck is amazing and the feel of this guitar is that of one much more expensive. It is great for fingerpicking, strumming, and single note lines and has no weaknesses. It came out the box ready to play with no setup or tweaking necessary. I purchased this and a Breedlove Oregon dreadnought within a few weeks of each other and must admit I find myself playing the Pursuit concert much more! Not that the Oregon dread isn't a nice (very nice) instrument, it is just that this has such a versatility to it and feels a little better in my hands. Great job Breedlove!!

This guitar put anything you could buy in this price range to shame. Take this puppy for a test drive and you will fall in love. My teacher has a Taylor, and the feel is identical. At some point the that good folks at Breedlove are going to figure out they could command a lot more money for these beauties. If you find better for the money -- buy it!
