OVERVIEW

For the advancing nylon string player.

Delivers a warm, musical tone both acoustically and plugged in, built on the bass resonance of ebony and the power of red spruce. The Pursuit Dreadnought Ebony is a true reflection of Breedlove’s distinctively crafted sound found in an exceptional appointment package. Includes built-in USB port for easy interfacing with recording software.

Body Shape
Breedlove set out to enhance the traditional dreadnought sound, and the results are evident. If you’re inspired by the familiarity of a dread, but are looking for more nuance and richness than usual, the Breedlove Dreadnought delivers. The shape is slightly more rounded than traditional dreadnoughts and produces beautifully full, punchy, and articulate tones. It also provides excellent projection and articulation, so it excels in any ensemble. The hand-graduated top provides the balance and clarity that make this one of the most innovative and expressive-sounding dreadnoughts on the market.

Breedlove Pinless Bridge
The Breedlove Pinless Bridge helps maintain the integrity of the top by eliminating the need for six drilled string holes. The fewer holes in your soundboard, the more evenly the sound wave can move across the interior, without any loss of energy. The Breedlove Pinless Bridge also provides a gentler string-break angle from the bridge to the top of the saddle, reducing saddle strain. This innovative bridge also makes string changes a breeze, especially on 12 strings. Plus, you’ll never again have to worry about lost, worn-out, or broken bridge pins.

Breedlove Neck
Breedlove guitars feature a slimmer neck profile, which enables comfortable play, even with smaller hands. The hand-rubbed, semi-gloss Breedlove neck finish also contributes to ideal playability. The labor-intensive finish process includes precise finish coat applications, fine sanding, and hand buffing and rubbing.

Set Up and Quality Assurance in Bend, Oregon
The comprehensive quality control process provides the player with an instrument that will play perfectly right out of the box. Prior to shipment, every Breedlove instrument undergoes a rigorous 25-to-30-point inspection in Bend, Oregon by their expert U.S. quality control team. They start with a visual inspection: checking aesthetic and structural elements of the body and components for flaws. Next, each guitar is tuned and undergoes a play test, where our craftspeople check nut height, relief, action and string height. Based on the results of the play test, they are adjusted for maximum playability. Finally, each instrument is buffed and polished by hand with painstaking attention to detail. Once the instrument has passed inspection, a signed QC sticker is placed, and the instrument is carefully packed and shipped.

Limited Lifetime Warranty
Breedlove players around the world can attest: With consistent, proper care, your Breedlove will give you a lifetime of service – and inspiration. New Breedlove instruments are warrantied to be free of defects in materials and workmanship throughout the lifetime of the original owner. In addition to materials and workmanship, Breedlove offers a two-year warranty on tuning machines and electronics packages.

The best deal in this price range period! Guitar was ready to go out of the box. I am a professional player who does weddings, corporate events & different gigs where I need a dependable & decent sounding nylon string to fit the bill.I play some light classical background at these events & this guitar is perfect. I even play some smooth jazz a la Earl Klugh or Craig Chaqucio & it does this style well too! Love the neck- plays smooth & the action is just right. Compared to all the other acoustic-electric nylons in this price range, this guitar blows away the competition.
The only thing listed above is that the tuners are a bit stiff & are the only thing I"d improve overall. The guitar stays in tune well enough, but they are lower quality then the rest of the instrument.

This is the most amazing nylon string instument that I have ever played in this price point. As a pro player / educator for over 50 years and being incredibly picky, this guitar right out of the box blew me away. It looks and sounds like instruments that I have owned at 10 times the price, and I couldn't believe right out of the box nothing needed to set it up at all. HIGHLY recommended as a terrific nylon string guitar...

    Exceptional Value test drive one

    By jason blade

    from shenandoah valley virginia

After decades of trying to manipulate steel strings into sounding like or as near as possible to music written for nylon string guitars. My Breedlove Pursuit has put things back into perspective. I never perferred the 2x4 size neck on classical guitars(even though I have Hendrix size hands), nor was I a fan or supporter of chinese made guitars. I cannot praise this hybrid neck enough. Awesome job with quality control within Breedlove.

When you find a guitar that truely inspires you to play every waking hour and takes your ability to a whole new level of enjoyment, then we as guitarists have achieved a sense of tranquility most people may only dream of.

    • Tonal Balance

    Cons

      Best Uses

This is the first BreedLove guitar I have owned. I am impressed with the projection and tonal quality exhibited by the guitar. Maybe it is the Cedar Soundboard as it this is the only guitar I have with this soundboard. I was worried that the laminated back and sides might hinder the guitars voice but I cannot really say that it has hindered its performance.

Like most classical guitars, the fretboard seems very flat and took a little more pressure than I am accustomed to exerting on a steel string guitar to produce clear sustained notes especially with barred chords. However, the modified fretboard width, (narrower than most classical guitars), makes it quite a bit easier to accomplish.

You will probably want to change the strings soon after delivery once you have determined you will keep this guitar from Musician's Friend. I was amazed that the sound could actually get better. As noted, the battery delivered with the guitar will be short lived but very easy to change. The factory setup was just about right but I made a truss rod adjustment to lower the string height just a bit and was delighted there was no string buzz.

I do own a few expensive guitars so don't worry that I am uninformed. Does it compare to my Taylor 815c? No, but then that guitar is not nylon stringed either. It does compare to the Taylor Nylon String 314ce in so much that it is 1/3 the price. Sound as good? Well, not quite but close enough and I don't make a living playing a guitar. I enjoy playing them and this one is fun to play. It sits nicely in the lap and I intend to pickup the steel stringed version with the cedar top just because I am curious how it sounds.

I don't think you can find a better value for your money.

This is my first nylon string guitar and it's got what I need. The onboard Fishman electronics are perfectly suited for the occasional performance, since turning the tuner on reduces volume automatically. It's a beautiful instrument with attractive appointments and playability.

My first nylon string guitar; I'm normally a steel string player. The neck is a bit wider than I'm used to, but not too difficult to get used to. Wonderful tone both plugged and acoustic only. Action is great out of the box, and it looks good. I'm very pleased.

        Beautiful design, first-rate electronics

        By Kim

        from Reno, NV

Got mine for 319 because the neck was slightly up-bowed and the action was high from about the 8th fret to the 14th fret. I got out my Allen wrenches and adjusted the truss rod – now I have a great playing, beautiful guitar that I plan to keep forever. Others complain about the tuning machines – if you are used to sealed Grovers, these probably look cheesy to you. I think they are better than the ones on my Yairi CY-130, they have two tension adjustments and seem to work just fine.

The Fishman electronics are great, the tuner is very handy and accurate. Like most acoustic-electrics, the acoustic sound is more authentic than the plugged-in sound, but that is to be expected. The phase switch allows some tone variations.

I'm used to the 2 x 4 neck on the Yairi, but this neck is very playable without being too narrow for classical. I play classical on it exclusively. The abalone around the sound hole is a very nice change from the usual kind of cheesy printed appliqué. The headstock logo is mother of pearl, not painted on.

This is a beautiful, stylish, well-thought out instrument for the classical player looking for a more user-friendly axe with modern improvements. I think it will age nicely and gain the volume and bass response of an old instrument.

I absolutely Love, Love, Love this guitar

        By Dawn Keiballs

Being the owner of an AC25SR+ for quite some time, and yes I prefer that guitar to my Martin OM21, I should have started my search for a nylon string guitar with Breedlove. When I first started looking at buying a nylon string axe I looked at Alvarez, Yamaha, etc. I could not find a Godin Multiac to try so I ordered one from MF, turned out not to be for me, I just didn't like the guitar so I sent it back and continued looking.

I stumbled across this Breedlove and was instantly captivated. I love my AC25SR+ so I was going to have to try this one. So glad I did, this is without a doubt my favorite guitar. I play it through a Yamaha THR5A Acoustic Modeling Amp and have endless fun. I can get lost in this rig for hours. when I told the wife I was going to practice in the living room using my amp, well let's just say she was not pleased. But when she realized this is a sweet amp not a loud amp her mood changed and she loves it when I play this combination of guitar and amplifier. If you are looking for a great nylon string guitar, then look no farther, You have found the best right here. You will not regret buying this guitar.

I ordered this guitar because I thought I'd like the acoustic-electric sound of a nylon string. Many years ago (not going to say how many decades) I played a classical, so I thought this hybrid would be interesting. The guitar arrived in perfect condition from MF, although it was a Level 2 I just couldn't see any blemish on the top or anywhere. Right out of the box it was almost in tune, and set up perfectly. Immediately I was struck with the very high quality of the workmanship and wood selection. A very beautiful piece of cedar for the top, and the attractive mahogany sides and back was really set off with the nice tortoise binding. Really NICE guitar, simple but very attractive. AND, the sound was amazing. I've heard lots of nice-sounding guitars, but this one was over the top. Rich, deep bass and lots of midrange, and this from a cutaway! I think Breedlove makes some of the highest quality instruments available anywhere, even if they are assembled in China. The tuners were a bit low-end, but they worked. And I wasn't wild about the tuner on the Fishman preamp, as it wasn't that accurate at time, still usable. The sound plugged in was very nice, although I used it mostly unplugged. But, in the end, I had to send the guitar back because the neck was just too much for my arthritic fingers. I loved picking out melodies, but alas the chords were just not possible at this neck width for me. I've played narrow steel-string guitars for so long I guess it's too late in the game for me to change now. A shame, because it suited me perfectly in every other way. So, I the end I decided that someone else should have the opportunity of using this fine guitar to it's full advantage instead of being only played occasionally by me. I just can't say enough good things about this guitar, and for the money you'll be hard pressed to find a better value. I would highly recommend it to anyone, just be sure you can handle the wider neck vs. a steel string guitar.
