Comments about Breedlove Revival D/SMe Burst Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I know the action could be lowered, but the deal-breaker was the poor electronics. Without the pre-amp, the guitar has a bright tone. The pre-amp seemed to deaden it. Didn't make sense to me but that's the way it was. I bought this one as a "Stupid Deal" -- returned it for a Martin with a list price just half of what this guitar ordinarily goes for. The Martin is better in every respect, including the Fishman electronics.

Comments about Breedlove Revival D/SMe Burst Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar's finish is much nicer in person. I really like the sunburst, but admit I was concerned from the photo that it would look too bold. But, with Musician's Friend's return policy, I figured I'd take a chance. Good solid woods on front and back, and frankly, I kind of like the laminate on the sides for structural stability, though I'm know solid sides are strong as well. Action is high at nut and at saddle, but that's to be expected on ALL new guitars. I've rarely found a perfect action, though the time I did find it, it was on a factory new American Breedlove. Case is great.

The only fault is the preamp and the street price. LR Baggs makes a great pickup and a great StagePro preamp, but this new LR-T-CV preamp is not as refined. I'll have to use a para-DI whereas with the StagePro, I could always go direct. Not sure how much Breedlove saves by using this preamp, but StagePro is MUCH better. That being said, it is workable with external shaping. The price, on the other hand, will keep this guitar on the shelf. For much less, the Epiphone DR-500MCE Masterbilt has vintage styling, a pretty good pickup system and all solid woods for great tone, and a lifetime warranty (Breedlove only recently began offering lifetime warranties on their import models). I only bought this because Musician's Friend discounted it on a "stupid deal". So if you get it on sale or used, it's worth it, otherwise, for value's sake alone, I'd at least consider any of the similarly featured/quality, but lesser priced, options (Epiphone, Blueridge, Recording King, Guild). Or for close to the same price, a used Martin 16 series or 1 series or used Taylor DN3. Still though, you can't go wrong getting this beautiful dreadnaught. I'm keeping mine.

Comments about Breedlove Revival D/SMe Burst Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is an outstanding instrument. The pictures do not do it justice, the wood grain and finish is superb. Often when purchasing acoustics, they need some setup, this was playable out of the box, the factory setup was just about perfect. The tone of the guitar is what you would expect from a much higher quality guitar. I own a Martin D-18 and I would put this right up there with that. Often you hear people say "a good guitar for the price" this is a good guitar period. Plugged in through a Marshall AS50, it sounds great. Didn't take a long time to dial in different tones, the L.R. Baggs onboard EQ is pretty easy to manipulate from fingerstyle to chord strumming. The only two negatives I can think about this guitar is that it lacks a pickguard (which I would prefer to choose anyway) and the tuners are average. Grover open-back vintage style tuners, might upgrade to Waverly's but there is nothing inherently wrong with them so I would not feel bad about keeping them. All in all, a great guitar.

                An excellent guitar!

Comments about Breedlove Revival D/SMe Burst Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The Atlas Revival is really an excellent guitar in nearly every way. The combination of Sitka top and Sapele back really make this guitar sing with a lot of range and volume.

One of the first things I noticed after getting it set up was the quality of the sound, even when rigging with extra light strings. The bass has some good punch to it without drowning out the high end treble. The sound is rich and warm with a lot of character....no "tinny" over tones here.

About the only downside I've found so far is in the intonation. It goes a bit flat after you move up the fret board....but it's just a tad and you really don't notice unless your checking it with electronics. A bit of compensation to the saddle should clear it up. Really this is a small issue and in no way detracts from the quality of this Breedlove.

The quality of the build is far beyond what you would reasonably expect in a guitar at this price point. In fact, I'm blown away by the overall quality and sound at such a price.

I've played a number of Taylors and Martins including an upper crust signature model that had nothing on the rich sound of this Breedlove Revival, at one fifth the price....But perhaps I just got lucky with a really good instrument.

The overall beauty of the Sunburst top was superior to how it appeared in the pictures and is pleasing to look at. The Burst is light enough over most of the top to allow viewing of the wood grain. Something I find attractive.

With the small complaint about the intonation aside, this is a marvelous guitar. At the Musicians Friend price it's amazing...truly.
