Improved and refined replica of Red Special.

The Brian May Signature Left-Handed features an acoustically chambered mahogany body, a dual truss rod mahogany neck, and ebony fingerboard. The pickups are Tri-Sonics that Brian sealed in Araldite adhesive to prevent microphonic feedback inherent with metal covered pickups. These are controlled by the original Brian May switching system with individual on/off and phase switches, one volume and one tone pot.

Faithful to the spirit of Brian's original 'Red Special', an instrument that has achieved iconic status and a unique place in rock history, and designed by Brian May himself, the Brian May Special is a stunning guitar, blessed with superb build quality, awesome playability and an astonishingly rich diversity of killer tones. In fact, it delivers everything you'd expect from an instrument built to the exacting standards of one of the world's great guitarists but, in keeping with Brian's vision of a "guitar for the people", with an amazingly affordable price-tag that belies its' superior appointments and performance. Includes gig bag.

Without question one of the most eagerly anticipated instruments of the century, the original BMG replica was originally launched in winter 2001 to rapturous critical and public acclaim... UK Guitarist magazine hailed it as "Best Guitar of The Year" and theater audiences around the globe thrilled to the guitar's sound in performance in the Queen musical "We Will Rock You".

But the story certainly didn't end there. Brian, his long-standing guitar, technician Pete Malandrone and House Music have significantly improved upon the guitar's overall construction as well as refining the bridge assembly, electronics, finishing and color choices. Simply put, one of the finest artist-designed production guitars is now even better.

A Very Mixed Up Bag

Comments about Brian May Guitars Brian May Signature Left-Handed Electric Guitar:

Once I was done, the guitar is magic. The tones are wonderfull, as is it's appearance.
If it's not on this guitar, you don't want it. 3 very unique sounding pickups, an elaborate switching scheme. A tremolo (more on this later), locking tuners. Nice woods, Bindings.
I also own the Burns version of this guitar. It's closer (dimesionaly) to Brian's Old Girl. It had a big neck and a 7" radius. It turned a lot of people off, but I really like it.
The new version looks more like Brian's Old Girl, but they made some changes to the neck that will apeal to more players. The neck has a slimmer "C" shape. The fretboard is a much friendlier 10" radius. The top has a very nice book matched figured Mahogany top. The back is very nice straight grained Mahogany. The bindings are perfectly installed. The finish is very nice too. Visually, this is a very pretty instrument.
I've been a Luthier for 30yrs, so the first thing I do is see how badly it plays, then go under the hood & fix it.
To put it plainly, the set up is horrible! There's no excuse for a guitar at this price to be poorly setup. This guitar does not have the same trem as the right handed model. It's just a very cheap steel saddle Chinese bridge with a wimpy zinc block, the wrong hex wrench was supplied to adjust the saddles. Keeping this trem in tune is a pain in the ass, the burns is much better (and cheaper at the time) The switches are iffy as well. Two of them need replacing. The tone knob is like a wah that works at the very end of it's travel.
There's no doubting the components here.To have a guitar that looks so nice & doesn't stay in tune very well is frustrating.
You should not have to take a guitar at this price to a Luthier for such an expensive set up. I understand small things, the guitar has traveled a long way & it's made from wood things will move a bit.
Thankfully the fretwork is very good as is the entire neck. (I will get a better bridge for it, the tuning drives me mad).

+ In my opinion, the most comfy neck ever. + Sounds like may! -There is string buzz higher up on mine,- The Tri-sonic pickups disappoint.- Worst balance ever.

Comments about Brian May Guitars Brian May Signature Left-Handed Electric Guitar:

I'm a lefty who plays strung for a righty-so I had to get a new nut made-first shop blew it-second shop nailed it. NOW, I'm finding that I really do like this guitar. Nice & light-great tone(s) great fret access all the way up. Beautiful fit & finish-would've liked a White lefty, but... Tremolo can be a little too sensitive-needs more springs. But I don't use it-so my tech blocked it for me. Makes a beautiful hardtail bridge. Like I said-It took a while to get it tweaked to perfection, but now it's a keeper. Pickups can get very nasal sounding. AND you CAN'T drop in a set of single coils without modifying the pickguard! No matter what you think of Brian May/his playing/OR Queen-THIS IS A FINE GUITAR, And I very happy with the choice I made. He made sure this wasn't a Joke for those willing to try one/buy one...
