OVERVIEW

Assembles easily using only a few screwdrivers and a small hammer.

The "Pure & Simple" C. B. Gitty 3 String Fretless Slide Guitar Kit assembles easily using only a few screwdrivers and a small hammer. Everything included: cigar box, all parts, and strings, even the slide. Fingerboard is fretless, but marked for easy play. Be playing the Blues within an hour.

This kit builds the traditional "stick on top" style of cigar box guitar, in the style of mountain dulcimers where the neck rests on top of the box instead of running through it. The result is a nice loud CBG tuned with the popular "Open G" tuning of G D G, which is what most of the Youtube how-to-play video presenters use. The string sizes we use are .042" wound (low G), .012" plain steel (high D), .009" plain steel (high G).

Makes a great project to do with kids too. Order today.

Comments about C.B. Gitty Cigar Box Pure & Simple 3-String Slide Guitar Kit:

I first encountered these kits as a build clinic at a music store I used to manage. These things are an absolute blast to play and equally as fun to build. I have since made several different variations of Cigar Box Guitars using parts from C.B. Gitty. If you want in on the Home Made instrument revolution there is no better way to start. I would and have recommended these to people time and time again. Get yourself one and be a part of the revolution.

Comments about C.B. Gitty Cigar Box Pure & Simple 3-String Slide Guitar Kit:

I have built and performed live with the C. B. Gitty "Pure and Simple" cigar box guitar kit. In addition, I have taught several classes of students using these. They're extremely easy to assemble. (You can put one together in less than half an hour if you have an electric drill with a screwdriver bit.)

The cigar box is all wood and sounds way better than you'd expect. It's set up in the traditional Depression Era style, with a fretless neck (fret markers are on there instead) and played with a slide. The slide is also included, by the way.

Assemble the guitar, tune it to an open chord (all of this is in the instructions provided) and you'll be on your way to playing slide guitar just like Blind Willie Johnson and Hound Dog Taylor did when they were children.

      NOTES ON CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION:
      1. I recommend at least 2-3 helpers per 10 students in a classroom. (It'll keep things moving...)
      2. As stated above, an electric screwdriver or drill with a Phillips screwdriver bit will save a LOT of time.
      3. Also, if you're teaching many students, do yourself a favor and get an Ernie Ball string winder. (The simple process of stringing up the guitar is actually the longest part of the assembly!) Here's the link to the string winder:

      4. C. B. Gitty has also invested a lot of time in free lessons online. This means students will have plenty of resources to learn how to play cigar box guitar. These kits are not meant to be wallhangers!
