The Desolation DC-1 ST has a double-cutaway mahogany body with a carved top and neck-through-body design. Features include a bound mahogany neck with scalloped heel, compound radius (12”-16”) Indian rosewood fingerboard with 24 jumbo frets and abalone inlays, abalone body and headstock binding, EMG® 85 (neck) and 81 (bridge) active humbucking pickups with three-way toggle switching, Charvel bridge specially designed for compound-radius fingerboards, black nickel hardware, three-on-a-side locking Charvel tuners, and solid and trans finishes.

This guitar is a work of art. The mixture of quality components with the high end D1 features makes for a great guitar. It came nicely set up with low action, love that! The neck feels natural and the smooth wood under your thumb brings it home. I'm very impressed with what I paid. It's worth the money.

Overall very pleased. This guitar has got me excited about playing again. I'd been dreaming about a PRS but couldn't afford the big bucks and their lesser expensive models really didn't do anything for me. Then I saw the Charvel Desolation DC-1. Beautiful guitar and the neck is a dream. Very pleased.
Very pleased with features of this guitar. Neck through design, beautiful woods, nice bindings and inlays. Love the neck! Very fast and easy to play. My other guitars are an Ibanez RG and a Fender Strat. If you like the thin Ibanez wizard necks then you'll like the Desolation. Active EMGs are hot and sound nice. The only reason I'm not giving a 10 is the online pics area little misleading. I have the trans red color and it is beautiful, but different then the pictures provided.
Setup out of the box was acceptable and would work for most. The high E string was unstrung, but who doesn't put a fresh set of strings as soon as they get a new guitar. For a Chinese made guitar the quality was nice. Not as good as some American made guitars but definitely top notch considering its orgin. Finish looks good, bindings and neck inlays looked really nice. Only blunder was on the bridge. A little imperfection on the chroming right were you rest your picking hand. Chrome is starting to come off there after a few weeks of play.
For the money I don't think you can find another guitar that comes close. The one thing that really sets this guitar apart from the rest in this price range is the neck. Nicely done neck-thru, jumbo frets, white and black neck binding and gorgeous abalone inlays and it is smooth and fast playing. To get a better neck your going to have a buy an Ibanez Prestige or an American PRS.
