great sound, great action, a set neck, beautiful ammenities, with pearl and abalone inlays, grover tuners and Indian rosewood, can't beat that!
    Quality:
Easy to play faster action. When I went to a local guitar store, they showed me the DC-2 ST. Right away I felt this was a great guitar especially with someone with smaller hands,( but I paid the full price). Now I just can't stop playing. but I'm sure this guitar will be great for everyone. Ordered another for my nephew from you all!
    Value:
The finish is very similiar to a gibson les paul and similiar in sound . I would consider this as a starter guitar up to the working professional or for people like me with smaller hands, but I'm sure everone one will love this guitar. Very versitile.

Some of the comments I am leaving are personal preference and others may not agree. The main reason I gave this guitar a poor rating is because straight out of the box, it would need a fret job. Multiple frets are rough, corroded and some have considerable flat spots. See the picture I included.

I have a Charvel Model 6 and a Jackson Kelly. Chravel/Jackson are some of my favorite guitars so I was very disappointed in the quality of this guitar. I hope I have an anomaly and the rest of the production run is perfect.

    As for my personal preferences:

The bottom horn on this guitar is pretty tight. Looking at a picture of the guitar, you will see the fretboard extends past the cut away pretty far. I don't have a small hand, probably large but not huge. For me to access frets 19 and above, I have to angle my hand a bit as is typical, but the horn is close to the neck and does not leave a lot of room for me to turn my hand. It is very uncomfortable for me to play on the high frets.

I have several guitars with unfinished necks, all maple. I love them and as you play it over time it gets hand finished by the oils on your hand. This guitar has a mahogany neck and I am unsure that its large open grains will ever rub smooth like maple. Unsure being the key word but out of the box I felt like the mahogany was rough and would have been better if they finished it.

I never plugged it in, I literally played it for two minutes, felt the frets, saw the poor condition they were in an sadly returned it.

Do yourself a favor and play one at a store. Maybe you will love it's features, I really wanted to. If you do, take a chance and buy it. I hope the sad craftsman ship on the one I received is not the norm for one of my favorite manufacturers.

This guitar rocks. I unplugged my tele knock off and plugged this baby in and the amp practically exploded. The sound difference was like night and day. The action on this guitar fits me like a glove. I have played alot of guitars over the last 30 years and this guitar impressed me right out of the box. Kudos to Charvel!

For a Deal of the Day I couldn't pass it up. And I am glad I didn't, guitar plays great! lighter than I thought it would be before i first picked it up.
active pickups are well rounded, neck through design sustains for days! Finish looks great binding around the body looks SWEEET ! craftsmenship is better than the Les Paul Epiphones. Charvel has got a winner with this series. Hoping to pick up one of the single cutaway models (LP style)

Comments about Charvel Desolation Double Cutaway 2 Electric Guitar:

Not a bad axe. First thing I did was change the strings and check for fret buzz. It was good right out of the box. I have owned Ibanez guitars and the EMG's are always a good pick-up, just remember to keep extra 9 volt batteries on hand. Great metal guitar. I have tried it through all if my heads and its pretty consistent. I would use it in a performance. Nice body style and it is not at all heavy. I have a Gibson SG and compared the 2 the Desolation is a tab shorter scaled but all in all good product.

Comments about Charvel Desolation Double Cutaway 2 Electric Guitar:

Purchased on Labor Day Stupid Deal of the Hour.
This guitar has a beautiful finish and is awesome to play, it has good action and solid hardware. Not sure about the locking tuners yet, if you don't check the tightness they give a weird noise at certain frequencies, it took a while to figure that out. I also think I am having a problem with the 3 way switch. I lose sound for a half a second when switching from rhythm to bridge pickup.
The pickups sound fantastic with distortion, they have a great crunch to them. However, it is almost impossible to lower the volume for a clean tone with active pickups. I wish there was a switch to turn that off.
As far as the neck goes, I emailed Charvel about how to care for this oiled neck and they said just to keep it clean and use regular guitar polish. No oiling is required. I guess we will see... I did take some 1500 grit sand paper and burnish the back of the neck, it felt a little wavy to me and that helped a bunch.
Over all I am extremely pleased with this instrument. It is a great value for the $$.

Comments about Charvel Desolation Double Cutaway 2 Electric Guitar:

The Instrument came out of the box ready for use, surprisingly. I wanted to set it up right away and change the stock strings, but the action was very good right out of the box. So also was the the tone, by the way. If fact we recorded a session with the guitar after simply tuning it.

The guitar tone is a fusion between the Less Paul and Stratocaster sounds, able to project with warmth. The active pickups are clean sounding, presenting no background noise to worry about. Craftsmanship is superb, equal to that of guitars costing much more.

Only drawback, if any–the volume and tone knobs were a bit gritty, as they did not feel smooth like knobs typically do. Nevertheless, the knobs were not noisy when being rotated. Kudos to the maker–this is a very good buy!

          Goog Bye!

While there are a ton of guitars on the market out there in this price range, few compare to the quality & workmanship & features that went into this make & model IMHO! Mine in Trans. Black is drop dead perfect finish & almost to easy to play. Locking tuners, & active pick-ups & solid electrics are almost un-heard of at this price! This axe leans to be more of a shredder than a dig down under Blues special but with a set-up to your liking, most styles can be achieved. I had to loosen the neck a tad and raise the low end E side of stop bar a tad & adjust the height of the neck pickup! 10 minutes of adjustments & she's ready to rock for most anything! A great deal under 4 bills or better yet when SDOTD hits-ha! Get ya some!

Perfect action and intonation right out of the box. Amazing range of sound without having to mess with the amp, from soft and low to sharp and bighty, and just about everything in between, I can't stop playing with it. I was a little concerned at first, due to Charvels rep as metal machines, but they must be reaching out to a softer, cleaner market with the DC2. This one's a keeper!

Good build quality. I really like the neck. The pickups are decent. I have a Charvel SK-1 with EMG's and this sounds close - a little fizzy but could dial it out between tone and volume controls. The problems: the bottom bout/cut away is too small and not deep enough for full access to the last few frets. Can barely get my hand in it and I do not have large hands. Unfortunately, mine had a serious ground/shielding issue. Hummed badly. I had to return it. I purchased on Stupid Deal. Worth it for what I paid. Not so much at full price. Although the neck feels different, I'm very happy with the SK-1. Go for a Skatecaster or Soloist for full-24 fret access.

Great guitar from Charvel (can't believe some others never heard of this company-remember Randy Rhoads and Jackson???) nicely balanced, light weight, active pickups are quite powerful, finish is great. Surprisingly, this thing plays blues great on the neck pickup with some tone control rubbed off, great sustain. A steal at this price, get one or two before they figure it out and raise the price!
