great sound, great action, a set neck, beautiful ammenities, with pearl and abalone inlays, grover tuners and Indian rosewood, can't beat that!
        Quality:
Easy to play faster action. When I went to a local guitar store, they showed me the DC-2 ST. Right away I felt this was a great guitar especially with someone with smaller hands,( but I paid the full price). Now I just can't stop playing. but I'm sure this guitar will be great for everyone. Ordered another for my nephew from you all!
        Value:
The finish is very similiar to a gibson les paul and similiar in sound . I would consider this as a starter guitar up to the working professional or for people like me with smaller hands, but I'm sure everone one will love this guitar. Very versitile.

Some of the comments I am leaving are personal preference and others may not agree. The main reason I gave this guitar a poor rating is because straight out of the box, it would need a fret job. Multiple frets are rough, corroded and some have considerable flat spots. See the picture I included.

I have a Charvel Model 6 and a Jackson Kelly. Chravel/Jackson are some of my favorite guitars so I was very disappointed in the quality of this guitar. I hope I have an anomaly and the rest of the production run is perfect.

        As for my personal preferences:

The bottom horn on this guitar is pretty tight. Looking at a picture of the guitar, you will see the fretboard extends past the cut away pretty far. I don't have a small hand, probably large but not huge. For me to access frets 19 and above, I have to angle my hand a bit as is typical, but the horn is close to the neck and does not leave a lot of room for me to turn my hand. It is very uncomfortable for me to play on the high frets.

I have several guitars with unfinished necks, all maple. I love them and as you play it over time it gets hand finished by the oils on your hand. This guitar has a mahogany neck and I am unsure that its large open grains will ever rub smooth like maple. Unsure being the key word but out of the box I felt like the mahogany was rough and would have been better if they finished it.

I never plugged it in, I literally played it for two minutes, felt the frets, saw the poor condition they were in an sadly returned it.

Do yourself a favor and play one at a store. Maybe you will love it's features, I really wanted to. If you do, take a chance and buy it. I hope the sad craftsman ship on the one I received is not the norm for one of my favorite manufacturers.

the bare wood neck is thin and strong .you can tune down w/o the neck flexing. Best 25.5 inch scale neck my aching ,small hands has ever played!!! fret job is good enough, locking tuners are great.nut is cut just right . stays in tune no matter what!! belly cut on body is comfortable. Great responsive heavy metal sound. Now for any other sound the pick ups fall short. Yes you can get a fair clean sound but I will agree that the pick ups are this guitars weak point and depending on how you play the sharp cut body will dig into your right forearm. these two things are the only weak point this guitar has ! FOR FAST METAL STUFF YOU CANNOT BEAT THIS GUITAR!!!!!!!!! Great Job Charvel !!!!!!!!

If you are looking for a smaller guitar with all the advantages that come with a large guitar, and then some, its time to spring for your Rainsong. We buy guitars for tone. Makers say "you can't get big tone from a small body." They just have not tried a Rainsong Parlor. Surprising volume and tone, almost woodlike grace this almost weightless instrument. Plugged in, you can't tell that it isn't a much larger guitar. The strin! g spacing is perfect for both strumming and finger/flat picking. No more concerns that a student may put the headstock of their guitar through the top of a stage instrument. Play outside without fear of the weather. Not the prettiest of guitars but more bang for the buck than most. Try it. Its love you pick."

Comments about Charvel Desolation Double Cutaway 2 Electric Guitar:

The guitar body is well build. But I don't really like it was "crafted" in China.
The electronics are bad so I have to take it to a guitar shop to get it repaired. Cables are not correctly welded.
The tone knob is sticky and it doesn't turn smoothly.
I cannot return it because I'm not at the US so I will keep it and try to take the best of it.

WOW, picked this up on stupid deal for a winter beater. Can't believe what I got. Everything about this guitar is spot on. Charvel active pick ups crush the emg's, and put the guitar at a better price point. Kudo's Charvel, hot rodded upgraded design, light as a feather. I love it...there should be an "I demand my friend buy this" bottom line.

Comments about Charvel Desolation Double Cutaway 2 Electric Guitar:

          PRO's
the wood work-finish is just extraordinaire, as close as your gonna get to a custom shop guitar without takin a morgage on your home! The tone-overtones- sustain makes my custom strat - tele- 335-.... sound dead and lifeless to an extent, but they still have their place.
The active pick ups are hot ,but not noisy, there is a tone knob and with proper settings on your amp- guitar this guitar will fit in just about any style of music!

          Cons
as a craftsman too, it is so obvious they used the wrong size screw drivers to install the hardware as they have created minor burr's in the chrome finish using too small of a screw driver. For a guitar that looks as good as this. For me this is huge undersite- negative! Just how hard is it to supply proper sized tools to workers?

Pick up saddles are not Perfect slighty angled.
Volume-tone pots are not as tight as they should be, Had to tighten them.

          Final thoughts
Even after my extreme inspection this guitar still get top marks.
I did lowering the action to what I call " Warm Butter feel" and adding a bit more arch to the neck, lowered the neck pickup- got in the way, this guitar is just a pleasure to play. As many others have stated , it allmost play's it self and the tone.....
And for a "stupid deal of the day" you basicly allmost get a custom shop guitar for the cost of active picks up!The back of the neck will scratch - mar, but that is the nature of this wood. Take care with it.

JUST AMAZING!! I drop one star for the workers using the wrong screw drivers! Yes I got picky
If you don't pick one up your out of your mind for what I payed, less then 2 Franklins, Now I want one with a FLoydrose

active pickups are well rounded, neck through design sustains for days! Finish looks great binding around the body looks SWEEET ! craftsmenship is better than the Les Paul Epiphones. Charvel has got a winner with this series. Hoping to pick up one of the single cutaway models (LP style)

Not a bad axe. First thing I did was change the strings and check for fret buzz. It was good right out of the box. I have owned Ibanez guitars and the EMG's are always a good pick-up, just remember to keep extra 9 volt batteries on hand. Great metal guitar. I have tried it through all if my heads and its pretty consistent. I would use it in a performance. Nice body style and it is not at all heavy. I have a Gibson SG and compared the 2 the Desolation is a tab shorter scaled but all in all good product.

Purchased on Labor Day Stupid Deal of the Hour.
This guitar has a beautiful finish and is awesome to play, it has good action and solid hardware. Not sure about the locking tuners yet, if you don't check the tightness they give a weird noise at certain frequencies, it took a while to figure that out. I also think I am having a problem with the 3 way switch. I lose sound for a half a second when switching from rhythm to bridge pickup.
The pickups sound fantastic with distortion, they have a great crunch to them. However, it is almost impossible to lower the volume for a clean tone with active pickups. I wish there was a switch to turn that off.
As far as the neck goes, I emailed Charvel about how to care for this oiled neck and they said just to keep it clean and use regular guitar polish. No oiling is required. I guess we will see... I did take some 1500 grit sand paper and burnish the back of the neck, it felt a little wavy to me and that helped a bunch.
Over all I am extremely pleased with this instrument. It is a great value for the $$.

The Instrument came out of the box ready for use, surprisingly. I wanted to set it up right away and change the stock strings, but the action was very good right out of the box. So also was the the tone, by the way. If fact we recorded a session with the guitar after simply tuning it.

The guitar tone is a fusion between the Less Paul and Stratocaster sounds, able to project with warmth. The active pickups are clean sounding, presenting no background noise to worry about. Craftsmanship is superb, equal to that of guitars costing much more.

Only drawback, if any–the volume and tone knobs were a bit gritty, as they did not feel smooth like knobs typically do. Nevertheless, the knobs were not noisy when being rotated. Kudos to the maker–this is a very good buy!

                Goog Bye!
