Comments about Charvel Desolation DS1 Pro Stock Electric Guitar:
Picked this up at a local shop, guess it's a limited production run. I did not even see or realize that it was made in china until i took it home. I'm glad because It's a fantastic guitar and It may have been a deterent, mainly because of a chinese jay turser I had purchesed used, that ended up being a complete lemon. This guitar is a very nice instrument and really resonates with tone. The neck feels fantastic and is really smooth owed to its unfinished nature. Also It is very stable, It came stock with nine gauge strings which is unacceptable for my tastes, so i bumped to tens, then eventually put on eleven guage EB power slinkys and just hoped i did not need to take it in for a setup in a week. Have had no problems maybe slightly raised the action but not enough for me to take it in or risk self tightening the truss rod, and i mean slightly. I have had a maple strat neck that did alright moving to elevens but there was definetely more movement in that guitar's neck than in the charvel. The pickups are fantastic, I have never had seymour duncans and they are great. If you make a mistake they let you know... and reward you for good playing. Very accurate. My neck pickups tone pot started to crackle a little early, maybe just dirt but I wonder if they put in cheap potentiometers. Also in regards to the tone and volume controls, they made the bridge the upper two dials and neck bottom which is confusing and annoying at times. I have had it for several months and still occasionly mix them up as it is very natural to have neck controls up top. (might reverse it someday but feel like by that time i'll be used to it and it will be confusing again lol). This is the first new guitar I have purchased and one I don't think I will ever sell. In my opinion there are other guitars I would like to play and own, but this guitar is very unique and fantastic for It's price. It rivals many very expensive guitars from other manufactuers yet despite being labled as a "les paul copy" really is quite original. It is much more slim, almost strat like in comfort, and still pumps out that warm mahogany tone. I love it and it's fun to play.
