The Desolation DS-1 FR has a single-cutaway mahogany body with a carved top and neck-through-body design. Features include a bound mahogany neck with scalloped heel, compound radius (12”-16”) rosewood fingerboard with 24 jumbo frets and abalone inlays, abalone body and headstock binding, dual Seymour Duncan® Blackout™ active humbucking pickups with three-way toggle switching, Floyd Rose® double-locking tremolo, black nickel hardware, three-on-a-side Charvel tuners, and solid and trans finishes (flame maple veneer on trans finishes) with matching headstocks.

This guitar is ABSOLUTELY my favorite out of over 25 guitars I currently own and out of the majority of around 100 that I've owned in my life! The workmanship, visual aesthetics, hardware and factory setup are nothing short of many $2000- and up guitars! The ONLY thing I would change if I had designed it myself, is the heel joint. I think it could be a little deeper and a smoother contour. It's real comfortable up to the 22nd fret. But you kind of struggle to get to all the frets from the low E to the high E. I don't normally need that area, but it would be nice to get there comfortably. Overall, I am completely satisfied with it. The Mahogany body and neck give it a really warm Les Paul sound, and the Duncan Blackouts SCREAM!! A wonderful combination with the recessed original Floyd! That's another bonus along with the carved top, abalone binding and inlays, beautifully figured veneer top(definitely not a factor considering that real flame-top Les Paul's sell for a butt-load more!), and fantastic compound-radius fretboard which plays incredible from the factory! I LOVE IT!

I've owned many great guitars, ranging from old Les Paul's to high-end Ibanez and Jackson's, and this guitar is a well made, GREAT sounding, great looking AXE!! I happened to get EXTREMELY lucky (or blessed, however you choose to look at it) by finding 1 of these in Trans-Black that was damaged (allegedly a Level 4, meaning it was to be used for parts!) for around half of the selling price!! Are you kidding me?? I looked at the pics of it and bought it immediately. It came in today and I was truly amazed by what I found! With a quick set-up, new Cobalts and some adjustments (a total of 30 minutes tops!), this thing is as good as new! Actually, it feels better than the brand new one off the rack! I'm completely satisfied with this guitar! Musician Friend ROCKS!! I could justify spending over a GRAND on this thing it feels and sounds THAT GOOD!

As I said above the charvel desolation w/floyd rose will not be a disappointment unless you play classic country. Active pickups gives really clean notes with distortion (big plus on any picking riffs). The oiled neck is fast, thin and comfortable. The floyd just wraps it all up with a big bang for the buck. I am so glad I lucked into buying this guitar. Just remember to get everything you can out of it you'll need to get the d-tuna( around $50) and a black box stabalizer (around $45). even without them it is trult an awesome guitar.
The Charvel Desolation is great for playing almost any rock style. The semour duncan active pickups are tonal monsters. This is the first charvel and the first active pickups I've owned. I was really suprised how well it felt and sounded. First off this neck is the best feeling neck I've ever had from the factory. Its really sleek and super fast. The oiled neck works better than your typical poly finished necks. I bought this looking for a les paul look with more of a strat neck length. As it turns out I haven't hardly touched my strat since I've had this guitar. Not to mention it has a Floyd Rose. I would suggest that if you plat drop d very much to get the evh d-tuna and a bridge stabalizer. After I set it up I can't put it down.
It has a neck through body which I was nervous about. This thing is perfect. Straight neck, very light weight for the sound. Great job on Charvels part.
It would cost you the price of the guitar to buy the pickups and floyd. Unbelievably priced.

I give this guitar a 10 because its absolutely amazing. All i can say is if your into rock or metal buy this now.
This guitar has it all Blackouts,Real Floyd Rose,24 frets,Unfinished Thin Neck,your basically paying for the parts and getting the guitar for free.
Feels sturdy and solid
Awsome value for what your getting its like a EC-1000 but way cheaper and in my opinion since Ive owned one it sounds better.
