Comments about Charvel Desolation Single Cutaway 3 Electric Guitar:
I am very happy with this purchase. As always "Musician's Friend" came through! Although I've never played this guitar before the purchase, I read reviews and were all good. The nut on the jack was loose and came off when I unplugged the guitar cord, but I replaced it with a better one. All is ok now!
People have commented on how good the guitar sounds.
Got me a good guitar for a great price!

Comments about Charvel Desolation Single Cutaway 3 Electric Guitar:
This is a wonderful guitar and would get 5 stars if not for the fact that the picture clearly shows the guitar with grover type tuners. The ones they came with were pot metal and were covered in black nickel. I had to switch them out for Sperzels with a greater tuning ratio for it to stay in tune. The pickups sound great, effortless to play, didn't even have to adjust the intonation. Although, I felt I was ripped off on the tuners. Something should be done about that photo.

Comments about Charvel Desolation Single Cutaway 3 Electric Guitar:
This was my first guitar purchased online...I was very hesitant & sceptical, but once I received it all was good. I love this guitar...great tone, fretboard, and playability, not to mention gorgeous. I got the red one and looks great. One of the tuning machine heads is not perfect and the strings it came with are the worst. Once I changed the strings and set intonation it was great for jazz and heavy rock. Would recommend to beginners and experienced players.
Comments about Charvel Desolation Single Cutaway 3 Electric Guitar:
No regrets, I love this instrument .
Passive Pickups, a very light weight mahogany body and fast neck make this really easy to play . I changed out the strings, tightened the tuners and set the intonation with no problems . Yeah, the tuning pegs were a bit lose . No biggy . Frets are all jumbo, all nicely trimmed on the board .
I plugged this into my Orange 20LDX amp and started to run through all the efx. Really nice clean tones , and down n dirty tones with the gain and over drive kicked up . I have been shopping around for awhile and for what you get , you can't go wrong here . Its a Charvel , and the reputation is well deserved .
Very good quality and finish on this . I bought it "gently used " from here ...looked like it came new out of the box! Everything is tight , pots are good, and it sounds great . Sustain on this is unreal .
I almost feel guilty to get as good a sound out of this for what I paid for it . Some would call this a beginners guitar , but aside from the other models having EMG or Seymour Duncan pups and a Floyd Rose, its all the same . The ST-1 has a neck through design . If I wanted I could change out a few things but as it sits, why ? High out put passive pickups , great tones , sweet action out of the box for the most part ...hard to be disappointed with this . Its a keeper .

best guitar for the money
this makes the second charvel i have owned. the first was back in the 80's the ds-3 is one of the
finest playing guitars i have played in a long time. i play strat's prs lespauls takamine. this
guitar stands right next to all of them. the tone quality is great for any type of music you try to
give it.has a lightning fast neck and at the same time it light weight. charvel has stepped up to the plate and deliverd. i have played music for over 30 year's. i wont give a good guitar review unless i am very impressed and i am. try this guitar out for the price you cant go wrong.
Comments about Charvel Desolation Single Cutaway 3 Electric Guitar:
I've been wanting "24 frets and a couple of humbuckers" for awhile. Given the manufacturer and model, I was expecting hotter pickups, more of a shred monster if you will. The DS-1 has blackouts, and the DS-3 has Charvel passive humbuckers. As I mentioned above, the neck pickup is warm, round and responsive. The bridge pup I would have liked to be meatier. I adjusted it closer to the strings and it has helped somewhat. This thing loves lotsa crunch and absolutely adores pedals.
The neck is thin, but not "wizard" thin. My main rig is a '69 Thinline Tele with 71/4" neck radius, so the 12" fretboard on this seems really flat. But it is also really fast. The upper frets are easy to get to, and it came well setup out of the box.
What I would like to see is more information on this model on the company's website, including setup information, pickup specs, etc. like their parent company, Fender, does.
Pretty straightforward - mahogany body and neck, 24 frets and a couple of passive humbuckers, with standard electronics.
Physical balance is outstanding, fit and finish pretty first-rate. Some reviewers are put off by the finish on the neck, which could be a little smoother. I prefer satin-finished necks, however, and over time with lemon oil and wear it will smooth out nicely. I felt that the neck pickup could have higher output to better balance it with the neck pup, which is delightfully warm and full - think PAFish.
For a the price this thing is hard to beat.
