OVERVIEW

Modified for higher performance.

Part of Charvel's Production-Mod Series, the San Dimas Style 1 HH is jam-packed with high-performance specs and mods. The 25-1/2" scale alder body is crafted into the ultra-comfortable San Dimas shape and is mated to a 1-piece quartersawn maple neck. The compound radius (12"-16") fretboard is fleet and sweet for chording on the low end and extreme bending in the upper range of its 22 jumbo frets. The So-Cal is powered by a Seymour Duncan '59 SH1N neck humbucker and a Seymour Duncan JB TB4 bridge humbucker. Just as Eddie established in the '80s, all you need is a volume knob to control this beast. Grover Mini Rotomatics tuners and Floyd Rose FRTO2000 double-locking tremolo maintain rock solid tuning even after the most vigorous whammy-workout. The molded, rectangular SKB hardshell case with TSA-approved latches is ready to handle the rigors of the road (or the air).

Seymour Duncan JB TB4 bridge humbucker
The archetype hot-rodded humbucker for over 30 years. Great for everything from heavy blues to heavy metal. The world's most popular humbucker. Provides slammin' output while retaining singing highs, aggressive harmonics, and just the right blend of sustain and distortion. Goes from sweet warm tones to raw rock 'n' roll.

Seymour Duncan '59 SH-1N neck humbucker

This versatile P.A.F.-type humbucker is great for country, jazz, blues, funk, classic rock and heavy rock. It produces a late-'50s, vintage-correct, humbucker sound with warm and crystalline clean tones, full and bright distorted tones, and smooth sustain.

I have a Les paul, a Strat and an ESP Eclips, this guitar is now my number one! The pickups sound great dirty or clean and the pickup hight is not really an issue. The floyde is nice but one of the harder ones I've ever worked with...the quality with the tuning keys and floyd rose is just not what it used to be back in the 80's or 90's.... but they still do what they are supposed to do! Now the neck on this thing is un-real!!! It's like nothing out there...blows away any Ibanez or cheap ESP!! I've had them all and I can say that this neck is truly unique...smooth flat radius, perfect size, broken in feel, it practically plays its self. Got mine in black, added a EVH drop-D tuna.....ready to blast a hole in the roof!!!!
As simple as you are giong to get with a floyd rose equipped intrument.
I was expecting a bit more quality in this price range (the tuners are a bit funky, the paint is kind of thin and the pickups don't adjust) but all in all the guitar is still amazing!!
Think I will have this guitar for the rest of my life!!!

I went through three of these. All of them have sky high action. Because of the bow in the neck. Easily fixable, but you have to take the neck off in order to adjust the truss rod. Who wants to buy a brand new guitar and then have to take it apart in order to get it in working order. I sent all of them back. Just not what I expected from a name like Charvel.

Comments about Charvel San Dimas Style 1 HH Electric Guitar:

I liked WE Kurtz's comments. I got this at a store the other day and it appears these models may be discontinued soon. You already can't get the 4 other colors here or other standard online music stores. Get this blue one now. If you like Strats and Van Halen, just get it. It works very well with the EVH 5153. It looks more Van Halen or 80s than the Wolfgangs. And it is cheaper. The only thing is Blue is not VH's color. Too bad the reds, white and blacks appear gone for stripe painting.

Where Have You Been All My Life?

    By WE Kurtz

    from Canada

Comments about Charvel San Dimas Style 1 HH Electric Guitar:

Just purchased a candy blue San Dimas from Musician's Friend. First things first - the entire deal from start to finish took under a week to get to my door which is just unbelievably fast, especially considering I'm in Canada. Kudos to MF for the super speed.

The guitar itself is a dream. Cant believe I didnt have one before this. The San Dimass sister guitar, the So Cal, is extremely similar in terms of playability and feel, but Ive always preferred Seymour Duncan over DiMarzio pickups. To my ears the Duncans always come off as less throaty/mid-range heavy than the DiMarzios. That said, the Duncan '59 in the bridge absolutely screams. 4th guitar with Duncans Ive had. The bridge Duncan also comes off surprisingly beefy and warm through my M.B. Rectifier.

Something worth mentioning as well is the center pickup position. I rarely use my Strat as it is comparatively underpowered to my other guitars, but its the ONLY one that does that cool, twangy single-coil kinda funkiness when you need to go clean. The San Dimas center position splits your pickups to two single coil pickups in the out of phase position. I LOVE that.

Playing the San Dimas is incredibly fun. Feels very solid; its quite heavy for a strat. You can really bang on it. Nothing delicate or subtle about this guitar. Im also completely OCD about being in tune and Ive really put it through the paces. Once the strings were broken in a bit it was almost impossible to knock it out of tune. The locking Floyd works perfect.

Probably the standout feature of them all is the neck. I think if you Googled it, youd see the San Dimas is known for its amazing playability and its all true. REALLY fast, smooth neck. Very comfortable and intuitive. Every chord, every note in tune everywhere on the fretboard.

Lots of guitars out there these days I know, but its hard to imagine a better, more playable guitar, particularly for under 1K. I like the cool-factor as well. They look GREAT. No offense to the shredder-bots out there, but sometimes those ESP-esque razor-strats make you look like dorks. Try one of these instead.

Get em' before they are gone!!!

    By tele23

Comments about Charvel San Dimas Style 1 HH Electric Guitar:

I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a well rounded guitar. You can use this for any genre. Add a coil tap to the volume and you will have even more options!
I just picked up my snow white san dimas three days ago and I couldn't be more satisfied. I have owned many high end guitars and this is equal if not better than them and at a fraction of the cost. The Duncan pickups sound great together and the 12 to 16 neck radius is really awesome. A tone control would have been nice though. When I picked this up at my local dealer, he informed me that these Charvels are the last batch from Japan. Rumor has it that the new charvels will be made somewhere not named Japan or U.S.A! You know what that means! So pick one up fast because you never know if you will have a chance to buy such a great guitar at a reasonable price.
These Charvels use top notch materials like: Seymour Duncan pickups, Grover tuners, and a real Floyd Rose. What else can I say!
If rumor holds true that these are only available while supplies last than this guitars value will just go through the roof. Dont be surprised if in a couple of years you have people scrambling to find a guitar of this quality and detail for such a great price.

    Do you want to ROCK!?

    By Southerntwang

Comments about Charvel San Dimas Style 1 HH Electric Guitar:

If you like this style of music then you will LOVE this guitar.
If so, this is the guitar for you. And by ROCK I mean 80's style, spandex wearing, whammy bar riding, Marshall melting, bombastic ROCK!

This guitar is a total time machine for me and Charvel got it right. Great performance at a great price.
Overall the guitar rivals the quality of my made in the USA strats. The most important thing to me is the feel of the neck. The Charvel's neck feels amazing and the fretwork is great right out of the box.

I drop a few points on quality because they failed to put the Floyd Rose Nut's string clamp pads on at the factory. I called MusiciansFriend and they mailed me the parts fast.
You just can't find a guitar with this kind of quality and features at this price. Fender/Charvel got this one 100% right.

    Best buy on earth

    By Charvelman1979

    from Toronto, Ontario

Comments about Charvel San Dimas Style 1 HH Electric Guitar:

You are getting real Seymour Duncans, real Floyd Rose, quartersawn maple neck, beautiful jumbo frets, and the best feeling neck I have ever felt. I have been playing all of my life and have played professionally for years. The guitar not only has the slinky, pop for which strats are known when the pickup selector switch is in the middle position, but it has plently of bite on the bridge and plenty of lush tone on the neck. The neck is the perfect balance between strat and shred. It is ultra-fast and the edges are rolled off beautifully. This guitar is the same as the US series. I own both. Buy it now, these are the best.

    Incredible Tone !!!

    By Andre Vidal

    from Brazil

Comments about Charvel San Dimas Style 1 HH Electric Guitar:

The guitar tone is awesome. Mix it with a Vox Tonelab and it sounds great, just like VH. Both Seymour Duncans sound perfect, creamy, great bass, powerfull-blues on the 59 (neck) and brown, incredible sustain and bass on the TB4 (bridge). The neck is thin and fast. There is a comment above, sent by Mark from Atlanta, of the bow in the neck. It is true. My one arrived with the same sky action on the strings, but it has been easily fixed by a luthier (that's the reason I rated 4 on quality and I agree with Mark - it is a Charvel neck! They should take more care of their famous and popular brand). Besides that, a great, realy great rock guitar.

This is an amazing guitar with no flaws.

    By Tim Ferguson

    from over there

Comments about Charvel San Dimas Style 1 HH Electric Guitar:

I played this guitar at a local music store in addition to the USA version and a japanese So-cal. The strat body style is oh so comfy, the blocked floyd stays in tune very well, the simple electronics are easy to use and provide a pure tone, the direct mounted pickups sound absolutely blazing when driven and crystal clear when clean, the compound radius neck is very fast and just the right thickness, the oil finish on the neck feels very smooth and fast, the grover tuners are very stable and lightweight, the guitar is light and balanced, the frets are perfectly dressed and smooth as glass, the guitar has way more sustain than you would expect from a bolt-on guitar with a floyd, even the stock strings were great. One thing that is not mentioned anywhere is that the neck is ever so slightly scalloped, which I think makes the guitar so much easier to play. The ONLY negative about this guitar is that the neck and fretboard get dirty easily due to the oil finish, so prepare for that. Overall, it's a perfect guitar. BTW this guitar sounds much better than the So-cal and is just as good as the USA San Dimas.
