Comments about Danelectro 56 U2 Electric Guitar:

I purchased the same basic instrument a few months ago but it was a SilverTone that MF was having a clearance on. I was going to use it only for slide work. However, after getting it set up I noticed that this funky, little instrument has a personality of it's own. There are tones that I can get from this guitar that I cannot get from my Am St Strat, (SSS), of my Les Paul, ('57HB). The neck is a little chunky, but a person can overcome that with some practice. If you want a guitar that is fun to play, sounds very unique, especially if you are looking for some "bite", then I would check out a guitar with the "Lipstick" pickups. You will have a blast.

Comments about Danelectro 56 U2 Electric Guitar:

One thing I ask of any guitar at any price point is that it has its very own personality. Rarely do you get so much personality at such a low price. Something about the "budget" construction of the Dano (Masonite front and back on a lightweight poplar frame) gives it a semi-acoustic sound and feel, and the lipstick PUs are the perfect sonic complement for that resonance. They are wired unusually, as well: The middle position of the 3-way toggle switch gives you both pickups in series, which leads to quite a jump in volume, compared to the individual PUs. To describe them as twangy would be an understatement. In my opinion, this guitar sounds best when tuned down a step and run through a slightly overdriven amp. I have been tempted to exchange the nut, which is made of metal (looks like aluminum), but then I'm pretty sure it plays a crucial role in this spiky, jumpy sound. Mark Everett of Eels uses this guitar all the time, and it's the ideal sound for his style of music. Rockabilly, Alt Country, slow ballads, anything hillbilly or old-timey, but also dirty garage rock are the U2's forte. I got the white one with the clear plastic scratch guard, which I use as a picture frame: Every other month, I cut out a fresh interesting photo or drawing or simply strange looking piece of paper or foil and put it underneath the scratch guard. Right now, I have a piece of silver glitter paper under there, and it looks really regal and cheap-cool.

Comments about Danelectro 56 U2 Electric Guitar:

This guitar continues to intrigue and mystify me. It is so easy to play and light weight, it almost seems like a toy. For the price it should not play or sound so good. But it does. I own two Danos, and about 30 other guitars. The Danos are some of my favorites. No wonder Jimmy Page, et al, played them.
