OVERVIEW

Crystal-clear tone powered by rosewood.

D'Angelico's Gramercy Grand Auditorium (SG-200) features a spruce top and rosewood back and sides to offer you vivid depth. Fingerpicking on this Gramercy will produce soft warmth, while hard strumming busts the sound open without sacrificing clarity. The Gramercys slim, C-shape neck brings comfort and balance. As with all D'Angelico acoustic instruments, the Gramercy comes equipped with the Fishman INK-4 onboard preamp and pickup system, complete with its sleek built-in tuner. A truly dynamic instrument in its playability, the Gramercy can serve the mellow finger-style player, the frenetic rocker, and any player in between.

Comments about D'Angelico Gramercy Sitka Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The description of this guitar is WRONG!!
It does not have a 1.75 inch nut as advertised. It is much skinnier. See attached.
The sticker on the head stock says MADE IN INDONESIA. Not Korea as advertised. See attached.
It is NOT of the same level of quality as my Korean built D'Angelico EX-DC/SP.
Those were big selling points to me. I love my EX-DC/SP (I bought mine before the price nearly doubled).
I have big hands, and when I play an acoustic I want a wider string spread than the typical cheapo Asian built acoustics with skinny nut widths. (Why do so few have the 1.75 inch nut?? sheesh...)
It has a plastic nut, and saddle. Not bone as advertised.
There are frets sticking up at the end of the fingerboard (I checked it with a fret rocker)
They will need to be tapped down or leveled.
There were large chips of rosewood rattling around inside the guitar (Seriously guys?)
I bought this based on the quality of my D'Agelico last purchase.
I no longer trust them. I feel there are better options in their price range.
    I feel let down.

Comments about D'Angelico Gramercy Sitka Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

      I was looking for something different. My acoustics are 2 Taylors - an 810 and a 314CE, a Cordoba Nylon, and a Gretsch Jim Dandy (just for fun). I admit I was struck by the look of the guitar fist. When I got it, it did not disappoint. Even my wife who could care less told me she thought the guitar was beautiful. And it is. But I bought it to play and not look at. So here are my thoughts;
      - The playability is awesome – great neck very comfortable in my hand
      - The tone is not over bassey or overly bright. I would call it "even" - which make this guitar Ideal for recording. On my first attempt, it sounded fantastic
      - The pickup and controls are very nice as well. The nobs stay put (a problem I always had with my Taylor 314CE) and the "brilliance" control can add a nice amount of brightness without being harsh. I ran everything flat on my amp and guitar (no eq) and it sounded very natural
      - If you like harmonics, the brass pegs add a lot of sustain
      - The headstock is iconic
This guitar plays great and looks even better. The finish is flawless. I did have the bridge adjusted to lower the action and the tuner could work a little better, but overall I really love the guitar. This is a good one and a great deal.

Comments about D'Angelico Gramercy Sitka Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

First off, this is an incredible value at the price at the time of this review. I bought a Gramercy and also a Lexington model. The Gramercy is slightly warmer sounding, whereas the Lexington is slightly cooler looking (to me) and larger. It is true that the guitar arrived in need of a set up. I wish people would just stop complaining about about modest priced acoustic guitars needing a setup on arrival. What do you expect MF to do, set up each instrument, store it in a perfect-humidity warehouse and ship it in a temperature controlled vehicle? Even doing a set-up alone would add considerably to your cost for the instrument and delay shipping. So there.
It came with a truss rod wrench, and a slight adjustment was all that was needed. No need to adjust the saddle. I am not sure what kind of strings are on it, but they sound good. The guitar is not as loud as you would think by looking at it, but it still responds nicely to hard strumming and light picking. The Fishman Ink-4 system is easy to use, and the built in tuner seems adequate. The sound is reproduced pretty faithfully, I am play through either a Roland AC60 or an AER compact 60 amp. I see this as being a fantastic stage guitar, for a gigging musician who does not want to fret over (pun intended) an expensive instrument. But all said, the main reason I bought it was for the beautiful cherry sunburst finish, which oddly, is not seen on that many decent guitars. A friend commented on the ornate headstock being a bit too flashy. I like it, but you could replace the mirror-finish truss-rod cover with black plastic if you want to tone it down a bit. This review might not be around long since they may be closing these out for good (I do not know, so if you are on the fence about getting discounted D'Angelico acoustic, I say go for it.

Comments about D'Angelico Gramercy Sitka Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Very nice, well made guitar. It was however another MF guitar that arrived with a poor set up. I mean unplayably poor. I don't expect the guitar to come set to me specs but i do expect to be able to play it. Also the write up said this was made in Korea but it arrived as made in Indonesia. Still a nice guitar but not such a deal after paying for a set up. I'd recommend this guitar but also let people know what to expect upon delivery.
