I also had a case ordered with the guitar and they shipped together but in seperate boxes. I was skeptical about this guitar because I had never played one, but I went for it! It came out of the box perfectly set-up and tuned. Plugged it in and started shredding instantly. I had to adjust the pickups since they were very low, and after a bit of fine tuning it's been one of the best guitars I've ever owned (this makes it guitar #9 for me). And of all my axes (gibson/fender/ibanez) this one might be my favorite now. If you're on the fence I'd say go for it! I'm VERY impressed!
The '79 ML has pretty basic features, but has a lot to work with.
Extremely well made and durable!
For the price it's amazing!

First - don't ignore the negative comments like I did. I always liked the look of a V shaped guitar, but looks can be deceiving. It arrived in tune and ready to play. After watching all the available you tube videos the problem is if you don't know what they are playing through you end up with disappointment. I play through a Mesa Mark V and based on the physical make up of the guitar, ie Mahogany body, maple top, rosewood fingerboard I figured I could not go wrong. While it sounded OK, it did not blow me away as others have commented. I did not want to chance keeping it and swapping out the pickups to then have a much bigger disappointment. The guitar also kept sliding down neck first when standing, which was aggrivating. YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE DEAN'S CASE. As others have indicated it will not fit into a standard fender sized case. The play at the first two frets sounded off to me (sharp / flat) and required too much effort to play in tune. The upper fret access was great, which is what I was looking for as well. The look of the guitar is fantastic, and it is much lighter than it looks ( lighter than my Les Paul ). In the end it just was not for me. Not a bad guitar, just not for me.

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

Pros to this guitar: Has an amazing finish, construction and durability seem pretty well, has nice features for the pricepoint, and stays in tune. Cons to this guitar: The pickups are probably the worst I've ever heard, the guitar is absolutely huge, and due to the radical shape you have to buy a case that is made by dean or for this product, and to add to the bad sound of the pickups, it sounds really bad unplugged too. If i were to give you a general idea of the sound through a review, I would say incredibly boxy, in a very muddy way. So if you do decide to buy this guitar, you'll probably have to change the pickups. This guitar isn't really my cup of tea, and I'm selling it. But with a pickup swap, and if your style suits this type of guitar, then maybe you'll like it. It plays fine, and its got great upper fret access, so what I'm saying is try before you buy.

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

Man, I got this guitar last x-mas, and I love it. The neck is very comfortable, it sounds and plays great, you may need to adjust the bridge a bit to get what ya need out of it though and if your a Dimebag Darrell fan, definitely check out a Dimebucker pickup for your bridge, it will make it a monster. The trem has never thrown the strings way out of tune, the pitch sometimes changes, but it's not very noticeable. All in all, it's a great guitar, it looks good, sounds good, and the price is good. I would recommend it well...for anyone really.

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

I've had this guitar for about 2 years now. It's an ok guitar with a lot of potential stock. The licensed floyd is pretty bad; it didn't stay in tune too well, and I couldn't even turn the fine tuners on mine. Also, if you can, you should probably buy this in person because some have terrible back cavity with Floyd bushing showing. I have made some changes like swapping the LFR to OFR and changing the pickups, and now this thing is a joy to play. Fast neck, great upper fret access, great sound, and bada** looks that constantly gets compliments. I still plan on getting a full refret done with Dunlop 6100, the stock frets are a bit small for my liking.

Updating My Review

By Metal Santana-A8.-R

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

This guitar, out of the box, isnt all that amazing. You have to get it setup, and blah blah... but after that, its amazing! the Floyd is Licensed, but stays in tune realtivly well, that is, if u dont mess up the bolts on the nut like I did.I got new bolts and stays in tune for weeks, and i play every day for at least 2hrs. The frettboard is amazing and neck is extremely fast; great upper frett access. I think the neck is C shaped, but the specs dont specify. The pickups sound pretty mediocre, but they're pretty good, if u like jazz and similar genres. i personally like metal, so i bought some duncans (SH14 Custom 5 in the birdge; PG1 Pearly Gates in the neck)I sold my Line 6 For a Randall RX120RH and RX412 half stack and the sound is abosulte amazing! I also use a metalcore pedal, and my sound has never been better.I bought an Original Floyd and the sound and tune-keep are better than the licensed floyd ever were! Tremsetter helps alot too.-E-mail me if you've got any questions.

Not just for metal

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

This guitar looks great and the stock photo doesn't show its real beauty. it has a cream binding, and in person looks so much better. it is a heavy Les Paul style guitar and is huge. Dean gets a bad wrap because they make "metal" shaped guitars. This guitar sounds great, clean and with a pedal. The stock dean pick-ups are really good, the neck is fast, and the floyd is pretty good to. Its not an original floyd but the guitar is routered for one, so you can put one in. Over all the guitar is great for the price, quality and its not just for metal even thought it looks it.

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

This has been my dream guitar since almost three years ago...I just got it and this thing freaking soars like no other, I haven't been able to stop jamming. I have huge hands, so the wide neck finally gives me the room I need, and it just is the easiest to glide around on. As for the tone, I plugged into my Randall and this beast destroyed my epiphone elitist les paul, it has so much more low end chug and definition and it brought my high end up into piercing rob halford range. It's my first floyd and boy is it fun...about to have to restring for the first time..exciting =)the fine tuners are a god send.Yeah this guitar rules...and it's a looker. Shred on ;]Get your wings.

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

I have owned this guitar for several months and I have to say it is a nice guitar. I havent had it setup yet so I hope it will only get better. I love the feel very heavy and solid. The pickups are not great but decent the action is low but has a little buzz the finish is flawless the color is fantastic overall its everything I would expect out of a guitar that cost 3 times as much. I have owed many deans including the custom 450 which was nice but nothing in comparison this is an excellent guitar for anyone beginner to rockstar. Oh it would have been nicer with a bound headstock but thats just being picky .
