I was fortunate enough to get one of these Dean Angel of Deth's in about a week. When it arrived my guitar tech was the first to look at it and was very surprised at the quality of the work. Especially the fret work. This guitar really screams metal. One thing I noticed right away was the shape of the neck. It's not a super thin neck like an Ibanez wizard stlye. The shape is a "D" but with some heft to it. Don't be scared it is very comfortable to play. The pic ups where a nice surpise as well. Yes they're active but, you can get some great warm vintage rock tones out of them. They may not be as balls out as some high output pick-ups out there but their articulation is great. Like most Deans this thing is big. Big head stock, big body and big case. I have to crank my guitar stand to it's max length so that it doesn't touch the ground when I rest it on it. Last note about it is the frets. They are a little different than what I'm used to. Not as wide as a jumbo but they stand a lot taller than any I've ever used. Makes for easy trils and taping. buy and enjoy

It looks REALLY COOL and I love the design of the headstock because it helps keep in tune by keeping the strings lined up straight with the nut (even though the nut is just cheap plastic).

The thing that absolutely sucks is the FAKE low quality pickups. Yes, they are fake. They may come from Seymour Duncan but they are indeed fake because they are not the authentic pickups that you would receive if bought separately to install yourself. They are cheap economy versions that sound BAD and are not even wired according to the diagrams provided by the Seymour Duncan site! I bought and installed some SD blackouts and now it sounds awesome.

The high frets on the lower neck are a great idea and I guess it's the equivalent of a fingerboard. The neck shape is basically the same as a slim Jackson neck.
The V shape looks great and is much more comfortable to play sitting down than an asymmetrical V like the Jackson Randy Rhoads.

Lastly I should mention that the strings it comes with are 10's. They are way to stiff for my taste. I think the string-thru design makes the strings feel even stiffer and would perhaps benefit from a stopbar instead.

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNT Angel of Deth Electric Guitar:

i have had this guitar for quite some time now. i love it. it looks awesome, feels great, and sounds.... i cant even think of a word good enough to describe its sound. epic is n understatment. i have NEVER been a fan of active pickups, hated every one i ever tried. this guitar has changed my mind on that. all i can say is that i have 32 guitars in my collection, so im not a newcomer, but i never thought a guitar could sound this good.

now, that said, heres my complaints. the instrument i got was a "first", but the shape it left the factory, they should have been ashamed to sell it as a 2nd/blem. mechanically, its great. no problems with the graphics, but then they clear coated it, and thats when it all went to s@#t. the clear coat comes up the neck binding where it meets the body and is lumped up in places, and chipped and jagged where it meets the fretboard in others. add to that there is a HUGE run in the finish originating from the selector switch and running down about 3-4". these are merely aesthetic, you will not notice them unless you get right up to it and look at it in the right light, but still, for a guitar in this price range, i was VERY upset with this kind of poor qc.

that said, yes, it was upsetting, but i play my guitars, a little nick here and there are part of the game, so it really wasnt that important to me. if you are a "collector" and expect something... well,.... something like you should get for a guitar in this price range, you may feel differently.

would i recommend it to a friend? for a collector, who wants a beautiful piece, no. for a player who wants a great instrument with a AWESOME sound, absolutely.

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNT Angel of Deth Electric Guitar:

First off I love this guitar when it works. I bought it 2 years ago and only play it in the house. It's light but sturdy. Has great sound. Screams when i ask it to and growls when i ask it to. Amazing metal tone. I love the neck. Overall a great playing experience. That being said. I had to return the first 2 because they had bad input jacks. A few months later I was replacing a volume knob. A few months after that I was replacing the other volume knob. It is back in the shop getting the pick ups replaced because they had shorted out. I'm just having the rest of the electronics replaced. What should have been a great guitar has turned into a headache. If you are lucky enough to get one that works You'll love it but . . . my experience was not so good.

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNT Angel of Deth Electric Guitar:

I have a PRS Torero and Zakk WWylde Les Paul both w/ active EMG's and I am VERY pleased w/ the sound of the DM pick-ups. The guitar is so light, but very solid. After cleaning the frets of the protectant that is on there, and wiping the fretboard w/lemon oil, I did put on a set of DR 9 Gauge. I have the cheaper Marshall mg100 half stack and a digitech RP355 processor, and I was blown away. If you want agreat looking and high quality instrument, you have found it! What a great instrument!

      Great Guitar!!!

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNT Angel of Deth Electric Guitar:

I have owned this guitar for 2 years now. And I have owned many, many MANY guitars. This is by far the BEST guitar I have ever owned and played. It is so light, the fret board/neck is so comfortable, tuning is awesome and the pick-ups kick butt. I own the Angel of Death VMNT and am going to purchase a Black VMNT next. I have turned a lot of people onto this guitar by just allowing them to play mine. You will not be disapointed with this guitar. GET ONE!!!!!

      Dave's Deth Sauce!!!

      By skin2ink

      from Georgia

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNT Angel of Deth Electric Guitar:

Ok, first off, my opinion will be a little biased because mine came with issues right out of the box. I will hit the lows and then comment on the highs.First off, mine had a switch problem when I got it. The distortion was screaming, but when I would go to clean I would lose like 75% volume. I was like 'what the crap'? Anyway, I'm a gearhead, so I cracked it open and low and behold the bridge pickup ground to the selector switch was completely unsoddered, just dangling. Well, fixed that, but in the mean time I was overly scrutinizing. The graphics were hot looking, except where that bevel starts. They could have taken a couple of extra seconds to dress up the union, especially for the asking price. Then I took off the jack plate, and crap just came pouring out, some white powder, finish and chips. Lastly, the bridge heighth adjustment screws were rather thin, to the point of looking fragile.Ok, with all that said, here are the pros. Very hot pickups, but extremely articulate. Harmonics ring out like screaming eagles. I'm not sure what I expected from a 'D' neck, I guess a baseball bat, but I was pleasantly surprised at its shape. It isn't Les Paul thick, but not quite Ibanez thin. It is somewhere in between. Very easy to play. Intonation wasn't spot on, but with minor tweakage it was perfect. Ultra light, I'm talking creepy light, but I didn't notice it taking away from the tone. It has great distortion, and only required backing off on the knob ever so slightly to have buttery cleans. All in all, I can't complain. Still, its a solid part of my collection now. Go get your own!!!

      Angel Of Deth

      By VMNT

      from Smyrna DE

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNT Angel of Deth Electric Guitar:

Oh my god this guitar is incredible. The guitar feels lightweight for its size. The Dave Mustaine signature pickups have incredible tone and crunch. The neck is smooth and fast, and all the frets are within easy access. There is no transition from neck to body, so the joint is incredibly smooth. As always, the V shape looks incredible and sharp. At first I thought that the guitar would be awkward to play, but it actually is comfortable to sit down with. By the way, the picture on the site does not do this guitar justice. On top of everything, this thing is gorgeous. There is a sheen on top of the paint job that makes it even cooler to look at. Buy this guitar.
