Overall I'd say this is a pretty solid guitar. I'm not crazy about the basswood body or the bolt on construction of the neck, but at the price point it's kind of hard to complain about. Everything else is pretty good for the price point. The pickups, neck, bridge and tuners make up for it. I'm happy with it, and if you order it, I hope you will be too.
Pretty simple and straight forward, just about what you'd expect out of a standard guitar. Tune-o-matic bridge, dual dean design humbuckers, two volume pots and one tone pot, 6 in line mini grover tuners and 3 way toggle switch.
I'm gonna have to say, for the price, this guitar has impressed me. The pups on here sound a lot better than most in house pickups from the esp ltd line, ibanez, and epiphone in this price range. There is a nice, bright clarity to them that I like. Note articulation is pretty respectable with them which I appreciate. Bridge and tuners seem pretty solid. Setup was good out of the box on my friend's guitar. The neck is what made me really happy. After getting back into music after a 2 year hiatus and playing for 2 or 3 hours a day, the Les Paul I used to have was just painful to my left hand. The neck on this guitar just feels worlds better. It's neither too meaty or too thin for my hand and I could just glide across it almost as if it were smeared down with butter. If the thick C shaped necks are giving you trouble, or you just prefer a thinner neck I'd definitely recommend it. I liked my friend's vmntx so much I ordered my own today.
I've paid more for guitars I've liked a lot less (epiphone les paul and esp ex-50). Given the comfort of the neck, the solid construction of the mini grover tuners and a pretty decent bridge, I'd say this is well worth the money.

I got this guitar after owning a Jackson King V for a few years. This guitar when I first plugged it in had a pretty solid clean sound. The Distortion was very unsatisfying. I was hoping for a deep crunching sound, but it is much weaker leaving much to be desired. After a while I realized that every time I tuned my guitar, it got out of tune fast. Even by the time I'm finished tuning, it is out of tune already. I am not happy with this guitar, and have owned it for almost a year.

I had to return the first one of these because after taking it out of the box and looking it over, I notced that the neck was not square to the neck joint and somebody tightened it down anyway. There was an inch long crack in the body at the base of the neck. I don't now if I was more disappointed in the chinese factory worker who assembled it or the american inspector who signed off on it.
Fortunately Musicians Friend made exchanging it fast and easy. My replacement was on its way before they received the defective one! Excellent customer service :)
My replacement guitar arrived in perfect condition. It is a truly shred-worthy axe. The pickups are a little noisy (i might eventually replace them) but overall I love everything about this guitar. It looks and sounds killer and has a great feel to it. Great price on an awesome V !!!
BTW...I definitely recommend purchasing the Dean V Hardshell case for this guitar.
Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX Electric Guitar:
I've had my guitar for about 7 months and it's still going strong. I play mostly hard hark and metal and I'm more than satistied with the guitar. The neck is super fast and it's truly a real lead guitar. 24 Frets, what more can you ask for. I've seen some comments on the Dean Humbucker pickups that say ist's not that good and all I can say is that it's not just about the pickups. It's about what guitar amp and the distortion or overdrive pedal you use. I bought myself the Digitech Grunge Distortion Pedal that's going for $49 and I get an amazing sound with it. I use mostly the bridge pickup and I play a lot of Pantera songs. Dave Mustaine has put in a lot of hard work into designing a guitar that fans can play with. I want to upgrade to the VMNT, the set neck guitar of Dave Mustaine, but I'm happy with the VMNTX for now. Hope everyone is happy with this guitar.
Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX Electric Guitar:
Set-up out of the box was pretty close, I was playing in less than 15 minutes (including new strings). It has a medium weight / and great balance. The neck is very fast and sports a beautifully polished fret board that is very comfortable to negotiate. The paint finish is very nice as well. The Grover tuners are the best I've ever had. And that goes for the (pups) as well/ the dual volume knobs provide all kinds of sounds I can't achive with my other single vol knob guitars. And now that I've played it for a while, I realize just how muddy my other guitars sound. It's the best sounding guitar I've owned. The hard part is findig a case thats big enough for this rather large "V". It makes a Jackson "King V" look like a toy for kids (almost). I also had to raise the cradle on my guitar stand a few inches by drilling another hole in the vertical bar, (not a big deal) otherwise the two points on the "V" would hit the ground. I hope this review was helpful. I'm truley happy with this guitar.
Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX Electric Guitar:
I saw this guitar used in a local shop and had to have it because I am a huge fan of Dave Mustaine. I must be honest, I did not have high expectations from a "budget" Dean guitar. But when I got it home and played it, this thing surprised me. First of all, the neck is AMAZING. So thin and fast. The sound was also quite surprising. A lot of reviews claim the pickups to be "weak" but I was impressed (I also have a Jackson and it blows it out of the water) The Grover tuners and black hardware are also nice additions. I couldn't be happier with this guitar. And for a shade under $300, you simply can't beat it.
Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX Electric Guitar:
i got this guitar cause 1. dave mustaine is awesome, 2. great looking guitar, and its just awesome. this guitar sounds great when its used with a line 6!!! it sounds just beauiful, with the quick metal switch to acoustic one. but i have to admit, i had a trouble with all the knobs, confusing at first but its the greatest guitar anyone can have!! plus lots of my friends love dave so they all use it during guitar class! then we jam to megadeth songs.
Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX Electric Guitar:
This is one great guitar. 24 medium frets are nice, allows for good low action. For the money, this is an awesome value. The V-shaped body makes it easy to hit any fret on any string. It looks great, and sounds really nice too. The neck is extra thin, and very flat, which I like, but it really depends on personal preference with that feature. Also, it's very comfortable to wear with a strap even though it's a bit on the heavy side. (Hard to play sitting down though, as with all V's) All in all, an excellent guitar at a great price. Dean hasn't dissapointed me yet.
Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX Electric Guitar:
This guitar is amazing,do not let anyone tell you the pickups aren't good they're pretty good the distortion is just right for what I play, since some pickups are way too heavy for my taste, the neck is slim and plays fast it has super low action. This thing is pretty big I have hit the ceiling several times, I am pretty tall so when I take of the guitar I lift it up and hit the ceiling.
Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX Electric Guitar:
I bought this guitar in november of 2009 and recieved mine with no problems. I love this guitar so much. The Neck is the perfect width and it has a Clean/Distortion tone knob which I love. But....This thing is BIG. When I first got it I banged it on walls and cielings a few times. It is also a little hard to find a case. This is the BEST guitar you can get for the price.
