After fixing everything that was wrong with the guitar, I had a really nice playing, great sounding guitar that stays in tune. Another example of the poor workmanship was that the holes that were drilled for the string ferrules (it is a string thru body) were drilled too big for the ferrules, so that they sit below the level of the back of the guitar. I had to clean a lot of wax or rubbing compound out of the holes. Not so on my "End Game". Truthfully, even thought the "End Game" guitar cost just a little more than the "United Abomination", it looks and plays like a guitar costing in the higher price range. I'm still a Dean fan and a Dave Mustaine Fan. I've got the rest of his signature guitars in my wishlist for later purchases.
The Dean Dave Mustaine "United Abominations" VMNT X comes loaded with most of the features on the more expensive Dean Dave Mustaine models. The problem is that it's not put together very well
There wasn't one screw that was tightened the way it should have been, from the Grover keys on the headstock, to the neckplate, to the strapbuttons, and the volume and tone pots. All of the screws on the Grover Keys had to be tightened, as did the neck plate screws and strap buttons. The volume and tone pots just spun around...they weren't tight at all. I tightened them and then noticed that the nut holding the pickup selector switch in place was put in sideways and the nut was also broken in one place, so I had to tighten and replace that nut. The screws on the jackplate were also loose. After I tightened everything, I decided to replace the strap buttons with Dunlop Straploks. Replacing the button on the upper wing was a breeze. However, they incorporated a strap button as one of the neck plate screws. I had to use wood dowels and a bit of wood glue to get the straplok button to fit properly. That was something that should have been thought out a little more. I also own the Dean Dave Mustaine "End Game" VMNT and it was perfect right out of the box. Practically in tune and every screw tightened the way they should have been.
Good value for the money...IF you don't mind putting some work into the guitar to make it playable.

Had this guitar a few years back. I still remember every detail of it. The guitar is light, due to the basswood, feels cheap as expected. The tone is hollow, stock pickups are obviously pretty bad, fret buzz no matter how much you intonate it. Visually attractive, and the price isn't bad for someone who is a beginner and is curious about other body styles. For me personally, the fretboard felt very bland. As if it were a struggle to play anything at all.

Overall, for the price it's good. You want something that looks attractive to stun your friends or even if you're a Megadeth fan and you want a memorabilia hanging above your fireplace. Then I say go for it.

If you're a musician looking for a reliable guitar with great tone and feel, I urge you to pass on this instrument.

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX United Abomination Electric Guitar:

After playing this for awhile at a guitar shop, the VMNTX series seems like an excellent choice for those who want an awesome looking, sounding, and playing guitar on a budget. I will probably be getting the regular one in grey, although it seems that the jack is in a different place on that model. Very well done, I applaud Dean for this effort.
This guitar has a fabulous set of features that make it worthwhile for almost any style of play. Namely, I am referring to the dual volume knobs. This makes it easy to switch from riffing or clean work to solos without using any sort of pedal, or create a killswitch effect. The pickups are nicely matched and sound similar while still maintaining a nice amount of variation. The neck, as with most Deans, plays very comfortably and fast. Add to this the V shape and top-horn output jack and this makes a fine sounding, playing, and looking guitar.
At this price, you can't get better quality than a Dean, and this is no exception.

BUY THIS GUITAR

By Dean Fan

from USA

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX United Abomination Electric Guitar:

You won't be dissappointed. Make sure you get this guitar setup before leaving the store and it will amaze you. Very fast fretting, super fast action on the neck, neck handles very accurately and very crisp in your hand. The palm muting ROCKS on this guitar, I am able to play Master of Puppets with all downstrokes faster than I could on any other guitar. I was very shocked for the value of what I paid! The stock strings are sub par. I personally like the PUP's because I have a digital VOX so it colors the sound well for me. Having trouble getting great bends, seems a bit stiff, but suspect it's the strings. I also will be taking it to a guitar guru for advanced setup simply because it plays so well now. My only problem with it is that it plays SO FAST I have trouble keeping my motions tight enough to play accurately. Great axe by Dean and you can feel Mustaine's influence on its unique setup.

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX United Abomination Electric Guitar:

i got mine for $40 less used and its the best deal I have ever got. the dent at the very very top is unnoticable and would have happened anyway on the sharp corners of this Awesome Dean VMNTx Axe. The livewire cords work fine. The Crybaby Wah works great.I bought a 260 dollar guitar because I might want to sell it before I leave Iraq. But now I aint gonna sell. I'm gonna buy a hardcase. The axe was adjusted perfectly and came all the way to Iraq darn near in-tune. by the way it takes 2 weeks to deliver to Iraq. This guitar's graphics are way better in real life than the picture. Grover Tuners work smooth. neck is Great. Comfortable and easy to reach the highest notes.Musicians friend, You are an Awesome Team.

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX United Abomination Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar! The first thing I noticed on it was the neck..it feels and plays very well. The frets are smooth (no sharp ends) and the fretboard is a nice dark rosewood. The graphics are great and make the guitar look even "cooler" than it already is. The pickups sound good clean or distorted (you can always upgrade to hotter ones if you like). Plays great out of the box; the only adjustments I made were changing the strings to 10's, 1/4 turn of truss rod to loosen for neck relief, lowered the string action just a bit to fit my preference and oiled the fretboard. This is the first Dean guitar I have ever owned and I'm glad I bought it.

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX United Abomination Electric Guitar:

I bought this inexpensive V with low expectations until I played it. This guitar is built very well as has a ton of sustain. I installed EMG actives and it sounds even better. The stock pick-ups are very loud and will get you by with a good amp. Change them out for your favorite.........you have a monster! Very clean accurate tone from this....will be buying a black one now.

    OUTSTANDING QUALITY AT ANY PRICE

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX United Abomination Electric Guitar:

This is my second Dean guitar after years of Les Paul's, Strat's and many other more expensive USA made guitars. My first Dean was a Dime ML and I love it. I have to say in all honesty though, that I bought this model to use as a decorative motiff on my wall as I already have too many guitars! I did not expect the quality or tone that I got! This guitar is stunning. The neck has a great, fast feel, the frets are even and smooth (if a little too small for my taste), and the finish is superb. The pickups are way above what I expected for the price. The tone from the bridge P/U has the bite you would expect from a SD hotrail, and the neck P/U has great warmth and range in both distortion and clean channels of my rig. The control knobs are fluid and the electronics are very good. For a guitar made in China it is constructed very, very well. The only thing I would have changed would be the nut. A bone nut would be my preference. For the price, you simply can't get any better. Way to go Dean!!! I highly recommend this guitar.

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX United Abomination Electric Guitar:

Don't but this guitar because then mine won't be so rare. It's a great guitar. For the money - a killer deal. The fingerboard was nicely polished along with the frets. Staight neck with no fretting out anywhere! (Including the highest frets an all strings). This is with the action set fast. The PUPs are not super hot, but quite hot enough and produce good tones. If you swap out the PUPs, keep the originals. My guitar came wired ass-backwards with volume controls opposite and in/out connections at the pots reversed. Easy fix with a a couple of resolder points. Other than that, the guitar has a sharp graphic, balanced weight (I don't think I even need Strap-Locks) by using good quality strap. As always, change the stock strings with your prefered brand. I use D'Addarios .10s which made the guitar play, sound, and intonate better. I own over 30 guitars, most with graphics and this is a keeper. Now, If I can only figure out some Megadeth songs!

This guitar is without a doubt a very, VERY wicked guitar. It has a KILLER paint job, its comfortable to hold, and it sounds amazing. After a while, you may want to invest in new pickups, but even stock, this guitar is simply put, AWESOME. Its a must have for heavy rockers and V-guitar lovers.

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX United Abomination Electric Guitar:

This is a pretty sturdy and good sounding guitar, not to mention how sexy it is. I got this for christmas and at first glance was pretty dissapointed. The action was pretty bad and the frets buzzed up onto the twelfe fret, but after adjusting that and changing the action, this guitar shreds pretty good. The PU totally just screech classic Megadeth, although I am planning to replace them with some DM sigs to give me that Mustaine crunch. The graphic on it is pretty cool, and I heard there's one with the RIP cover on it. Has pretty good sustaine on it too, and the V body makes it a breeze to play standing up. Just make sure you gotta nice amp with this guitar, or else the tone on it will totally be sucked out.

Comments about Dean Dave Mustaine VMNTX United Abomination Electric Guitar:

The pictures of this guitar just doesn't do it justice. When you open the box it blows you away. The balance of the guitar is great. Lightweight with a thin neck. I use a digitech metal master pedal on a peavey amp and this thing rips. For the money you just can't beat it. Of course you will need to replace the strings. Other than that I am well satisfied.
