Wasn't sure such a reasonably priced guitar would sound this good, but, IT DOES!!!

This guitar is a great plays to start out, have as an extra or for a recreational player.
Solid construction, nice feel, great tone. We're not talking about the finest hand craftsmanhip, but we also not talking about a mess. It is well built, and is an excellent guitar for a beginner or for someone like me who likes to have a guitar around but isn't going to be making a living with it. That being said, I also wouldn't have any problems seeing this as a guitar that gets used extensively for gigging.
This is my second Dean item and they have both been fantastic. My first Dean cost significantly more than this, but plays and sounds just as good. There are not a lot of bells and whistles but what is included works well, and sounds great. It is a very good buy.

Good starter guitar, but sent wrong one!

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

The guitar itself plays and sounds fine and holds its tune better than I was expecting. I was disappointed that Musician's Friend sent me the wrong color (and the body was damaged). Since I'm deployed military, I didn't have time to mess around with shipping it back, so I asked for some money back. They cut a small amount off the price, which seemed insufficient for their error, but it is what it is. Customer service could have been better.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

overall i really enjoyed being a critic with this guitar it was a lot of fun playing around with it
i had bought this guitar to give me something to bang around and have fun with it, by no means is it going to replace my tele or les paul, it works great to try different pick ups and other little gadgets to play with, i do like to plug it in to a digitech effects processor, you can get a zillion sounds out of it, so if you want something that your going to play at a gig, this is not what you want, but if your a beginner or just someone that likes to go electric once in awhile i think you will like this guitar, i mean you can buy the guitar new for a great price most of the time
bolt on neck, and it is really light, just dont drop our throw it and you should be ok
i think any electric for this price is a deal

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

This guitar is a lot nicer than I expected considering what the price is. The construction is solid and it feels great. The only reason I knocked it down a star is the fret issue that others have mentioned. I've had the guitar for a day and my left index and middle fingers are all cut up from the sharp frets. Keep in mind when buying this that you'll most likely have to get them filed down. That is my only complaint. You won't find another guitar at this price that competes with this one.

Purchased as a practice, knock around guitar. Like the sound and performability better than Les Paul or 335. It plays a lot like Strat but with less weight than any of the above. All around great guitar. I just don't see how Dean can make this quality guitar and sell for this price. I use it for Country/western Bluegrass, and Gospel. Great all around guitar.

        Worth The Money

        By Wayne Campbell

        from Alabama

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

Dean Evo XM (Natural Mahogany) Owned for 1 month
Very first impression of this guitar was "this color is different from what is shown online". I ordered the Natural Mahogany and was expecting to see the natural wood grain on the body of the guitar but what you get is the solid color of mahogany, almost a burgundy color. I am not saying I am disappointed with the color but it is not what I was expecting. The black knobs and pickups look really nice with this color. Out of the box, I tuned the strings hooked it up to an amp and it sounded great. The tuners are not the best and will be something I will look to upgrade sometime in the future, but for now I just check the tuning before I play. Some of the strings stay in tune pretty good but one or two need to be tuned frequently. The guitar needed no truss rod adjustment or bridge adjustments. The action on this guitar seems great and I am impressed with the pickups. So far I have had no problems with any of the hardware which was something I had read in other reviews. This is my first electric guitar and I have only been playing acoustic just over a year so my skills are limited but I had a friend who has many years experience try this guitar out and he was very impressed. All in all I think this was a great purchase and I expect to get many years of use out of this instrument.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

Purchased just before a sale. Real guitarists who've played it gave it a thumbs up. One of tone nobs isn't super secure but hasn't came off. It's a little slippery to hold when your practicing on a stool so get a solid strap to insure it doesn't slide out on you. I was surprised how heavy it was but then its been 35 years since I held a solid body electric. It didn't need any adjusting, holds tune and for a beginner it would make sense if they received one like it. Dean's got their act together on this one.

Get one of these and a Grover Perfect Guitar Nut, raise the pickups as high as you can, turn the volume and tone all the way up, pair it with a cheap, sleazy amp and maybe your favorite squawky wah, and you have a truly nasty, greasy, slide machine. You won't play anything on it other than slide, but you won't want to.

          Seriously. Trust me on this.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

First off, i have to say if i say anything negative, it should be taken with a grain of salt because in its price range, this is a great guitar.

Right out of the box, i found the color not matching the image, however personally i found its true color pleasing. The guitar has a comfortable feel, not overly heavy, but not cheap feeling either. The neck feels comfortable, the tuners generally stay well in tune. i like the adjustable bridge, its a nice feature. The tone control is decently dynamic. the selector is a bit sticky sometimes, and that can become annoying. Also i find that the pickups are a bit close in range so as not to give the greatest differentiation, but still, its not an expensive guitar.

So all in all, i recommend this model for the price, it has a good sound and i find it pleasing. it also has a lot of potential. I made just go crazy and drop some P-90's in there, who knows. lol :) great for starter, or just a base for a custom.

have nothing bad to say about it at all .
i bought this guitar and got it 3 days ago. yes the color is darker than the one shown but it is stain color . it looks great to me . it's my first Dean guitar , but i put up there with my Strats . String action is perfect . i would buy it again if i had to buy another or when i buy another . I'd put it there with Eph. Les Paul 100% . Great sound with my Marshall MD250.
the guitar is built well . stays in tune with no problem . great action .

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

This guitar would be great for one song and then you smash it on stage. When I got it, I needed a backup, but it wasn't even worth the money I paid. I bought it without playing it and I swear I'll never do that again. The pick-ups are junk, very muddy. I'm thinking the weight of the guitar may have something to do with that because it is so light. It almost feels like an acoustic. The machine heads needed replacement immediately due to slippage. The neck was so-so, but there were a few frets that needed to be dressed and felt like they weren't seated fully. The input jack fell out after a few uses and had to be tightened up. I actually gave it away to a student who couldn't afford a guitar. It lasted him long enough until he could go and buy something better. Save you pennies kiddos and buy something better. Remember, you get what you pay for.

I had this guitar for several years and played it through a Peavey Blazer 158 amp. It sounds great and is fairly simple to work around the neck. I love this guitar but gave it to my nephew so he would have a good guitar to start on. My only issues were the tuning pegs and the lack of tone knobs. The tuning pegs seemed to give on me but could have been caused by the movers treating it poorly. I definately recommend this for guitarists of all skill levels.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

Arrived in good packaging, and in good condition, however found a few problems in the raw quality of manufacture and QA. First, it was not set up well, ultimately needing a complete setup (action, truss rod, pickup height & pole pieces, tuners etc..). Second, the neck was bolted on crooked (slightly to the left) had to re-seat/straighten using a shim.. the neck pocket was cut too wide. Next, the intonation was waaaay off.. Then, the frets needed to be leveled from poor installation, had lots of high/low spots!! In addition, frets had rough edges, had to round and polish them….it's worth mentioning the tops of the frets came very rough ground- like Dean filed them but didn't fine-sand or polish....Finally, the body finish is lame- Dean used some sort of lacquer stained brown, but looks sad over the low quality basswood body……not anything like the pictures online.
On to the good aspects….. After all the work, the guitar plays fantastic, and sounds awesome- The bridge pickup is notable as it is HOT!! Measured @ 18.2 DCR which is high output- and it sounds great also- heavy on the treble and mid, slightly lacking in bass. The neck plays fast and the fret board is a very nice, thick slab cut rosewood. The frets (after being leveled and highly polished) are wonderful- smooth and silky, making bending easy! The body is light and thin, very comfortable. The shape of the neck reminds me of a Fender Strat, sort of C shaped and a bit on the chunky side, but feels nice to play. The electronics are also spot on- very quiet and well shielded, so you won't be bothered by hum from rouge RF.
Overall the guitar needed the equivalent of around 100 of work and adjustments, but after- it turned out to be a real nice instrument. I think Dean cuts lots of corners to speed up production and put out a dirt cheep product- was under 120 but needed 100 of work to make it excellent—I would have rather paid 220 to receive the guitar finished proper! Something to think about before buying!
