    Decent Guitar

    By Matthew MacKinnon

    from Ontario, Canada

Comments about Dean Exotica Koa Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought the Dean Exotica Koa, because i had heard a lot about the sound of Koa wood, and thought it would compliment my voice- being rich and bassy. From day one, I am sorry to say the sound was not quite what I expected. It sounded just like any other dreadnaught, and was a bit boomy plugged in. The wood is also a lot more orange than the picture shows. Here was my big beef: The neck was always a bit buzzy. I like the action somewhat low, and I tried and tried to get it playable with many lutheirs setting it up. In the end, it buzzed like a son of a gun with no help. So, I went with a Takamine instead.

Very high quality for the price point

Comments about Dean Exotica Koa Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

At this price, the Exotica is the best guitar you can get. I've been playing mine for about two years now, and I've noticed that it tends to stay in tune for over a week at a time. Very solid construction, good tone, impressive looks, and good electronics that haven't let me down. Of course, it's a laminate top; they don't mention that in the description. Also, the action was a bit high out of the box, but that is true for just about ANY guitar you buy through the mail as opposed to in a shop.

    Beautiful

Comments about Dean Exotica Koa Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

So i got this guitar for christmas and trust me it is SOOO much darker than the picture. I love this guitar and have had no major problems yet. I did have one little tiny problem with the built in tuner but i fixed it in two minutes and it's good to go. There are two drawbacks on buying this guitar: 1. The koa look is achieved through a venur (spelling?) 2. There is not notch for a strap (which can be easily installed), you must place it on the neck. So this baby is DEFINETLY worth the money!!! :) Enjoy Playing!

    Update--some issues....

    By DPF

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Dean Exotica Koa Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Have had this guitar now since January of 2009. Well, sort of. The first one I got had some slight buzzing at frets 12 and 13. Returned it and Dean replaced it. But it took forever. Finally got the new one in March. Fine for a few months. Over July 4th weekend some odd bumps started to appear on the top of the guitar below the bridge. Looked like it was warping along the structural supports underneath. Always careful about hot cars, moving in and out of temperature extremes, etc.As of now it is once again back at the store. I assume it will be returned and (hopefully) replaced.I really wanted this guitar to work out, it plays very nicely for what I want it for. However this second issue within just a few months leaves me occasionally thinking I should have stuck with Washburn. I'll update again in a while.

    Good buy for the money

Comments about Dean Exotica Koa Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is a pretty sweet guitar for the money, I think. I am pretty much a hobbyist, been playing since the early 80's. I needed to replace my old Washburn acoustic, and after playing a friend's Washburn "Festival" A/E I thought and A/E might be interesting.First one I bought had slight buzzing at 13th & 14 frets, so it went back. In the mean time, suddenly this guitar was not available anywhere! Waited six weeks for the replacement, but it was worth it. In that same time frame the price increased, so it must be that these are getting popular. I played guitars twice the price and, at my skill level anyway (intermediate at best) I could not justify spending another 300 or 400 for the likes of a Martin or others in that range.Sounds OK unplugged, decent mids, not a ton of low end but serviceable. Plugged in (I use a Line 6 toneport and some crappy amps!) it is good fun, just be sure to get a sound hole cover. On board tuner is something I never knew I missed! XLR and normal guitar jack. Nice. Controls have that good solid feel. I'd like a strap peg (will have one installed)--I'm not a fan of having to tie a strap link around the headstock.Overall good looking, decent sounding investment. If you're ready to move up from the really, rally cheap stuff but are worried about spending big bucks, I think this is a nice in-between. I'll try to update this as the guitar breaks in.

    Great Value

Comments about Dean Exotica Koa Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I recently recieved this guitar for Christmas. This is the best value for a guitar I have seen in a while. The picture doesn't do this guitar justice. The finish is really much darker and more beautiful then it may seem. The only problem I have is some occasional buzzing on the 6th string. That got cancled out by having a 1/4" and xlr outut plug. If you are looking for a cheap and beautiful guitar, this is it.

    Sweet Dean

Comments about Dean Exotica Koa Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This thing is beautiful. It's a little darker than in the pictures, but it is simply magnificent. It is easy to tune and it stays in tune. Easy playability for the most novice guitar player. I couldn't suggest a better bang for the buck.

    Great Value

Comments about Dean Exotica Koa Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar looks and sound awesome!! Dollar for dollar one of the best acoustic-electric buys out there. Beautiful guitar with nice binding job. The only drawback that I can add is that the koa look is achieved through a veneer. This guitar is not made out of actual Koa wood.

    Dean Koa Exotica

    By Jon.Rivera

Comments about Dean Exotica Koa Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

i am VERY happy with my purchase! i bought this over the better-looking Quilt Ash because the sound had better bass response. The sound is very pure and the resonance is excellent. i have a crate amp and plugged in it sounds crap, with the acoustasonic it sounds tight and sweet. the binding is beautiful and the koa grain is flawless. excellent guitar for the price! BUY IT.

    Impressive

    By Kelly-JiX9g

Comments about Dean Exotica Koa Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Having just received this guitar yesterday, I can't keep my eyes off of it. The sad thing about that is this is a gift for my bestfriend. The over all sound quality is amazing. I know the arguement rages on about wood and tonal quality, but this thing has such a warm timber. Great price, wonderful sound, comfortable feel, and over all nice playability. You would do well to treat yourself. BTW this thing was almost perfectly in tune when it arrived, also impressive.
